THE ASSOCIATED GOSPEL ASSEMBLIES
MISSION STATEMENT We exist through our network of churches to
worship God by: bringing people to Christ and
fellowship in his church; developing them to
Christ-like maturity; and training them for service in
the church and a lifestyle of evangelism and social
outreach in the world.
CONVERSATION
WITH THE
EDITOR
The 58th Convention of the Associated Gospel Assemblies (AGA) saw the changing of the guard as Rev. Anthony White, Pastor of Rehoboth Gospel Assembly, was announced as the new President of the AGA. He took over from Dr. The Rev. Carlton Dennis, Pastor of Bethel Gospel Assembly, who served the Association with distinction in the capacity of President for ten (10) years. Rev. White said he is humbled to have been elected to serve in the capacity of President of this institution and will trust the Lord to lead him over the next three years. We are pleased that in this edition of our newsletter we will give you Part I of a very interesting interview with Rev. White, Part II will be published in a subsequent newsletter to be circulated in December 2019. Rev. White shares with us from his heart some key thoughts and perspectives, related to (i) his family (ii) school background (iii) preparation for ministry (iv) his call to the Pastorate (iv) his leader-ship style and (v) his vision for the AGA. This year we will continue with the theme “Spiritual Maturity – Our Obligation”, we pray that our Pastors and Elders will lead their congregations into the spiritual understanding of what the theme really means and how it can be used to impact the lives of our members. We give God thanks for the continued healing of our beloved Rev. Conrad Reid, Pastor of the Portmore Gospel Assembly, who became ill while attending the AGA-USA convention in 2018. He went through a prolonged illness in the United States and was hospitalized for an extended period. We give thanks that Pastor Conrad was
recently discharged from hospital and returned home to Jamaica. The congregation broke out in praise and thanksgiving to God when he attended church on July 21, 2019. I spoke to Rev. Leslie Nembhard, Pastor of the Denbigh Gospel Assembly, who reported that he was feeling much better after giving us a scare when he became seriously ill on Tuesday, April 22, 2019, one day after overseeing the activities of the AGA’s Annual Sports day at Campion College. Rev. Leslie is in good spirits and has stated his heartfelt appreciation for the love and care expressed by his local church family at Denbigh and the wider Associated Gospel Assemblies. To God be the glory Rev. Leslie is on his way to recovery. In 2020, the AGA will be celebrating 100 years as an association which will be a significant milestone. Stay tuned for the update on the activities which will take place in 2020 to celebrate this momentous occasion. My thanks goes out to Sis. Phiona who has been the backbone in the production of this newsletter, it could not be produced without her administrative and technical support. Enjoy reading. We appreciate any feedback you may have on the newsletter. Contact us [email protected].

We are happy to report that Pastor Conrad is back in Jamaica and worshipped with his congregation, Portmore Gospel Assembly, Sunday, July 21, 2019. Praise God, Praise God, Praise God.
PAST PRESIDENT
DR. THE REV. CARLTON DENNIS
THANK YOU FOR SERVING
In approximately 100 years of the
Associated Gospel Assemblies’ existence,
seven persons have had the awesome
opportunity to serve in the capacity as Chair-
man or President of the Association. Dr. the
Rev. Carlton Dennis became the sixth such
person and in February 2019 he demitted
office to Rev. Anthony White who became
the seventh President. We take this
opportunity to welcome Rev. White to the
noble office of President and we pray God’s
continued direction and blessings on his
leadership.
To say to Dr. the Rev. Carlton Dennis
“Thank You”, is but an infinitesimal expression
to convey our heartfelt appreciation to
someone who has served the Association
magnanimously: not just for a single term of
two years but repeated terms totaling approx-
imately ten years (10).
Through your influence, sir, much has
been achieved in the Association and many
persons have matured in Christ. To you we
say, may the God of all gods and Lord of lords
continue to inspire and lead you in the way
He wants you to go. On behalf of the, Execu-
tive Pastors, Elders, leaders and members of
the Associated Gospel Assemblies, we thank
you again for your selfless service in God’s
vineyard. May God continue to bless you.

Rev. Anthony White as he delivered his first address as the
President of the Associated Gospel Assemblies to the AGA-USA
Convention 2019 held at Olivet Gospel Church in New York on
Sunday, May 26, 2019.
We pray that God will order the steps of Rev. White as he takes on
this awesome responsibility to lead the Association over the next
three (3) years.
REV. ANTHONY WHITE
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
What church do you Pastor?
I am the Pastor for Rehoboth Gospel Assembly since January 1, 2004. I took over after the oversight pastoring of Dr. Carlton Dennis. However, I am also the current oversight pastor for Nazareth Gospel Assembly.
Tell us a bit about your family.
I am the only child between my parents, but they both eventually went on to have other children. So, I am in the middle of two worlds (lol). This unique blend has allowed me to see life differently, espe-cially as it relates to being in a blended family.
My own family that I have started is comprised of my wife, Nevin, and my two tall young sons, Jona-than and Jason. Nevin and I have been married for 22 years.
Tell us a bit about the schools you attended.
I am a past student of Cockburn Gardens All Age, located in three miles. From there I went on to Jamaica College, the greatest school in Jamaica (no hating is allowed from you KC guys. lol). After JC, I went to North Street Excelsior and Exed Community College where I did my O’ & A’ Levels. I later enrolled with the Association of Accounting Techni-cians where I completed my studies in accounting. I went on to study chartered accounting with the Association of Certified Chartered Accounting (then ACCA). I eventu-ally switched studies and enrolled at the Jamaica Theological Seminary (JTS) where I completed my Bachelors Degree. After JTS, I enrolled with Trinity Theological Seminary to do my Masters in Philosophy- which is incomplete today.
Tell us about your
preparation for ministry
There was no special preparation journey that I went on. I was just an obedient Chris-tian doing all that I can at my local church, Portmore Gospel Assembly. However, this started to affect how I saw things in the church and the world around me. As such, I became an avid reader of Christian material, by buying numerous books and a MUST BE BIBLE STUDY ATTENDEE in order to learn more.
Tell us about your calling to be a Pastor.
In 1997, I felt that there was more help needed in my local church. As such, I enrolled at JTS to be edified so that I could better help my pastor. However, it was during my second year and a “prophetic pro-nouncement” by one of my lecturers to the entire class that I switched studies from guidance and counseling to pastoral studies. The “prophetic announcement” had me doing some self-examination and discussion with my local pastor that eventually gave me the satisfaction that I was on the path that God wanted me on. (Interestingly, from the prophetic announcement in class, only three of us changed to pastoral studies and are still operating as pastors in our local churches.)
However, I later carried guidance and
counseling along with my pastoral studies.
I know it is early but do you have a
vision for the AGA?
I can give you a fancy answer and say yes (lol). However, I would like to believe I am starting to formulate a vision of things I would like to see happening.
One of the concerns I see is that we are not ordaining younger men as Elders, no disrespect to anyone intended. As such, our leadership core in that area could certainly use some youthful injection of qualified young men who are capable to mature in the role as an Elder.
Secondly, I remember some years ago Dr. Peter Garth presented an impassioned writing about a numerical outlook for the AGA. However, I believe the thoughts shared in the document are the tools which are necessary to help our churches grow. This means that we have to look at the evangelism efforts of our churches and to possibly help some our churches to overhaul their missions and evangelism department.
Thirdly, I believe there are some processes and policies that are in need of tightening up so that there can be a much clearer understanding of who we are and how we operate as an Association. Fourthly, I am still thinking, looking and speaking to people to understand what are things that affect us as an Association, for which the Executive Board can lead the way in its implementation.
Fifth, I believe that any President would have a grave concern about youth. Currently, the NYE is struggling and if something does not happen soon we may see this arm of the Association falling off. This I believe should be an alarm for all of our churches and its leaders.
