Reading: Please listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day

Literacy We will be exploring story structure using a story
from another culture Dragon Slayer by Gill Howell This is an
exciting adventure story set in China. We will then focus on
non-chronological reports through A Field Guide for Ogre Watchers.
We will also use our skills to write other reports in science and
geography.

This half term we will be learning how to read and mark
co-ordinates in the first two quadrants; draw simple polygons using
co-ordinates; translate simple polygons by adding to and
subtracting from the co- ordinates; reflect simple shapes in the y
axis or in a line, noting the effect on the co-ordinates; translate
simple shapes and note what happens to the co- ordinates; draw
regular and irregular 2D shapes using given dimensions and angles;
use the properties of 2D shapes, including rectangles, to derive
related facts; identify 3D shapes from 2D representations; create
3D shapes using 2D nets and draw 3D shapes. We will also be
covering some ratio and example SATs questions.

Science In Science this half term we will continue with our
topic, The Circle of Life. In this topic, the children will look at
life cycles of various species including mammals, amphibians and
birds. They also look at and describe the life process of
reproduction in plants and animals.

Computing We are bloggers Sharing experiences and opinions This
half term, we will be continuing with our Blogging topic which we
started last term. Blogging provides a worldwide audience for
pupils work. Commenting on others work extends pupils sense of
membership of a learning community. In this unit, pupils will
create a media-rich blog, comment on blogs and respond to comments.

podcast Skills communication content creation searching E-Safety:
The pupils will write content for their own or a shared blog,
thinking carefully about what can be appropriately shared online.
They will consider issues of copyright and digital footprint as
well as what constitutes acceptable behaviour when commenting on
others blog posts. The pupils will also think about the importance
of creating high-quality online content.

History/Geography This term we are studying water. The children
will find out about the water cycle; they will explore what a
drought is and think about how drought can affect people, wildlife
and the environment. They will begin to understand how we can all
make a difference by reducing our water usage. A useful website for

Art: Inspired by our trip to the rainforest conservatories of
Kew Gardens we will look at the work of the artist, Henri Rousseau,
noting how he built up his landscapes of jungle plants from a
series of repetitive shapes. We will then create our own 3D jungle
scenes.

This half term we will be studying a unit of music relating to
film. We will be looking at the composition of pieces. We will be
using sound effects and music in early animation to understand
music narrative. We will continue to perform songs using different
instruments. We will explore tempo and the structure of songs as
well as musical phrases. We will learn about using timesheets and
cue scores to create music for a movie performance.

PSHE/RRS We will discuss the democratic process and take a look at
the general election. We will encourage the children to hold
debates on some of the more important issues. The children will
also be visiting Perry House on a Wednesday afternoon.

This half term in French we will be looking at Spring
traditions and descriptions. We will also be learning vocabulary
relating to the weather and will look at French stories which
include details about weather. We will be learning adjectives to
describe people and pets. We will increase our use of French
dictionaries. We have a French student who will be spending some
time with us so that we can practise conversing in French.
