In the treatment of periodontitis apicalis, acutaand chronica ED 84 is applied into the root canal using a pipette andpumped up. Should ED 84 also penetrate into the periapical tissue whilethe foramen apicale is open, no damage will ensue, as ED 84 does notaffect the tissues.

ENDODONTOLOGY is getting more and moreimportant!

Preserve teeth, do not extract them!No endodontic treatment of the infected rootcanal without ED 84!Mechanical preparation of an infected root canal isinsufficient. Microorganisms remain in the canal despitecanal preparation and rinsing. Elimination of thesegerms makes temporary treatment sensible.

A pharmaceutical preparation must fulfil two conditions:

Sustained antimicrobial efficacy against all potential germs.No irritation of the periapical tissue.

„With undiluted ED 84 a reduction of the number of bacterial cells in theinfected canal by 2...3 log levels (from 104 or 103 to 101 bacterial cells) isalready achieved after a short exposure period (60 minutes). This was shownin a tooth extraction study including four bacterial test strains.“(Schäfer, Bössmann: Antimicrobial Effect of Camphorated Chlorxylenol (ED 84) in the Treatment ofInfected Root Canals. J.Endodontics 25, 547-551, 1999)

Studies have demonstrated that a drug-induced irritation of the tissuescould not be observed when ED 84 is applied. (Darwisch et al. Gewebsreaktion auf temporäre Wurzelkanalfüllmittel, Endodontie 1994, I.).

Summary: ED 84 is a disinfection emulsion which contains the activeingredients chloroxylenol (10%) and camphor (15%). Although it hasbacteriostatic effects when applied in a diluted solution, ED 84 should beapplied undiluted. Application should last up to 2 days under sterile closure.As a root canal disinfectant ED 84 produces good results particularly if ahigh number of microbial cells are present. Accessory canals are alsoreached on account of the low viscosity of ED 84.

2. Accurate fitting:

Cut the palate pattern to size accordingly with shears or a rotary cutter,heat and press on again. After cooling, lift it off the model and lay it aside.Model the base in pink wax as usual and put the teeth in place.

3. After wax fitting of the prosthesis:

Insert pattern in the wax base and coat it evenly and completely with wax. The palate pattern is removed during scalding. Palate patterns can beused repeatedly.

APPLICATION

1. Simply warm the pattern up on the model:

Before beginning with the wax work, adapt the palate pattern to the plaster model. To do this, lay the pattern on the model, heat it with hot air until the material shows plasticity and press it on (alternative: heat with hot water).

Fixing standard Dowel-Pins directly on the impression tray is often difficult.Dopifix supports the setting of the pins.

The plastic guide plate is fixed on the impression by the retention pins, sothat the Dowel-Pins is securely held in position and will not move duringplaster vibration. In the base of the sectioned model, Dopifix acts as asleeve, eliminating play during repositioning of the dies. The plaster archand the model base can be poured out in a single processing step.

Dopifix holds standard Dowel-Pins Size 2 in position without damaging theimpression, grants its perfect fit and is vibration-proof.
