    PART 1 - GENERAL

    1.1 DESCRIPTION

    A.

    This section includes the installation of rammed or jacked steel casing pipeindicated on the drawings.

    B. Related work specified elsewhere:

    1. Section 02155, Ground Improvement with Water-Activated Grout.

    2. Section 02431, Cellular Grout Backfill.

    3. Section 02444, Shaft Excavation.

    4. Section 02445, Carrier Pipe Installation in Casing.

    5. Section 02446, Pilot Tube.

    6. Section 02447, Casing Installed by Pipe Ramming

    7. Section 02448, Geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring.

    C. Definitions:

    1. Refer to Section 02447

    1.2

    DESIGN CRITERIA

    A. Casing shall be steel with a wall thickness not less than 0.75 inches.

    B. Steel shall be ASTM Specification A-139 Grade B (no hydro) and comply withASTM A-36 and ASTM A515 grade 60 or ASTM A572 grade 42.

    C. Casing pipe segments shall be specifically manufactured for pipe ramming and

    be either:

    1. Permalokcasing pipe as manufactured by Permalok Corporation. The

    pipe shall have machined ends that are watertight. A silicon sealant shall

    be used as a joining sealant.

    2. Casing for full penetration butt welds. Segments shall be nominal lengthnot random.

    D. Casing calculations shall use a minimum factor of safety of 2.0 .

    E. Casing shall have a minimum inside diameter that:

    1. Permits the carrier pipe to be installed to the designed line and grade andprovides clearances in accordance with Section 02445; and

    2. Minimum backfill between inside of casing sidewall and furthest

    projection of the carrier pipe shall be 2.0 inches.

    F. The casing shall be round, smooth, and have flush joints from a single

    manufacturer.

    1.3 SUBMITTALS

    A. General:

    1. Submit in accordance with Section 01300.

    2. Refer to Section 02447 for edge treatment of the lead casing.

    B. Product Data:

    1. Submit casing material certification, shop or working drawings showingpipe end joints, leading edge treatment, and wall thicknesses.

    2. Submit structural and deflection calculations for the pipe rammed casings.The Contractor shall submit calculations to determine the thickness

    required to withstand earth, groundwater, and dynamic impact installation

    forces from the pipe ramming operations. Provide calculations signed andstamped by an engineer registered in the State of California.

    3. Manufacturers written shipping, handling, storage, and assemblyinstructions.

    1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

    B. Qualifications:

    1. Casing calculations shall be prepared by a professional engineer licensedby the State of California. Experience shall include three projects within

    the last five years performing similar casing calculations.

    C. Casing Pipe Segments:

    1. Field assembly of water tight mechanical joints shall be made inaccordance with manufacturers written procedures.

    2. Welded joints shall be aligned and true so as to not introduce any bias orunintended steering action.

    A. Submit casing manufacturer's written recommendations for delivery, storage and

    handling.

    1.8 WARRANTY (NOT USED)

    PART 2 - PRODUCTS

    2.1 MATERIALS

    A. Casing shall be ASTM A-139 Grade B steel, with watertight joints.

    B.

    Joints shall be:

    1. Permalokmechanical restrained joint.

    2. Water tight full penetration butt welds.

    C. Provide dimensional tolerances include the following:

    1. Roundness: Pipe diameter, as measured along any single plane, shall notvary more than 1% from the specified diameter.

    2. Circumference: Outside circumference shall not vary more than 1% or -

    inch, whichever is less, from the nominal circumference.

    3.

    Wall Thickness: Steel pipe sections shall not vary more than 5% from thenominal wall thickness.

    4. Straightness: Deviation shall not be greater than 1/8-inches along any 10-

    foot length.

    5. Casing segment lengths shall be nominal and not random.
