Magnolia (Deciduous)Named after the French Professor of Botany Pierre Magnol, deciduous Magnolias come in a wide rage of forms, sizes and fl ower colours. They are generally vigorous trees with large leathery green leaves and herald from Asia. Evergreens from America. Flowers are mostly borne prior to leaves in spring and they prefer a sheltered spot so the fl owers don’t become damaged by wind. These days a strong infl uence on the development of Deciduous Magnolias not only comes from America and Asia but also New Zealand. Most notably from the Jury family from Taranaki and Oswald Blumhardt in Northland.
