CPLD is an Extended Certificate.

This means you must pass all 4 units throughout

year 12 and 13 to gain the qualification.

This is the equivalent to an A Level in CPLD.

Explanation 2. Points System + Grading

The amount of points you

are awarded will depend

on the grades you achieve

for each unit.

There are point-thresholds

for each grade when it

comes to your final grade

(at the end of Year 13) –

see right.

Explanation 2. Points System + Grading

If I fail a unit can I still pass the course?

No. You MUST pass every unit to pass the entire course.

External Assessments

If you don’t get the grade you want in an exam unit, you have a

chance to resit this in the following year.

YEAR 12 Exam Opportunities:

June 2022

YEAR 13 Exam Opportunities:

Internal Assessments + Deadlines

You cannot re-submit your internal assessments.

There are 2 internal assessment units: 1 is chosen by the exam

board (compulsory) and 1 is chosen by your teacher (optional).

If you miss the deadlines for either unit, you will fail the unit. You will

therefore fail the course (because you need to pass all units).

However, in Year 12, the unit is chosen by your teacher and there

are other “optional” units that can be done. If you fail this unit, you

can therefore complete one other unit to make up the credits.

However…

This will not be taught by your teacher and you must source your

own information for this.

Explanation 2. Points System + Grading

What if I don’t get the grades I want for university?

By March time in the second year of your course, we will

have enough information from 3 of your units (75%) of your

course to be able to estimate what grade you will leave

the course with.

If this is not the grade you need for university (or any other

course you choose to do after Sixth Form), then you can re-

sit one of the exams in the coming May/June series.

Tip: Work hard and follow our guidance from Day 1 and you

will succeed without having to resit!

Learning objectives:

Explanation 3. Expectancies + Standards

What do you mean by “standards”?

The standard of work is different in KS5.

At GCSE Level, you are “spoon-fed” a lot of the answers and work required from you.

This will NOT happen in your A Levels + Vocational courses.

Teachers expect you to be independent and proactive in your work.

This means to take on-board what your teachers are telling you, work outside of school/class and come to them if you have any issues/concerns/questions.

Your teachers will not chase you if you are not meeting the basic standards for the course. You will simply be asked to leave.

You will need to complete a certain amount of placement hours for your subject.

CPLD:

This will be 50 hours of placement by March of the second year. You must source + organise the placements and it is your responsibility to attend them. This is a requirement of the course. Failure to do so will result in failing the course.

HSC:

You will need to complete a minimum of 10 hours of placement time for this course. This must be completed by the end of the course (May in the second year).

Children’s development – birth to 7 years 11 months

When professionals look at children’s development it is split into 5

areas of development:

➢ Physical (fine and gross motor skills)

➢ Intellectual (cognitive)

➢ Language

➢ Social

Look at the age of child on your sheet and find out the expected

‘norms’ for the child of that age for each of the areas of

development, write the ‘norms’ around the child.
