IntroductionSMCS - 1202-010
When the words "use again" are in the description, the specification given can be used to determine if a part can be used again. If the part is equal to or within the specification given, use the part again.
When the word "permissible" is in the description, the specification given is the "maximum or minimum" tolerance permitted before adjustment, repair and/or new parts are needed.
A comparison can be made between the measurements of a worn part and the specifications of a new part to find the amount of wear. A part that is worn can be returned to service if an estimate of the remainder of its service life is good. If a short service life is expected, replace the part.

Pump assembly closed must withstand 310 kPa (45 psi) fuel pressure for 30 seconds with maximum leakage of 0.01 cc (.001 cu in).
Pump assembly open must withstand 310 kPa (45 psi) fuel pressure for 10 seconds with maximum leakage of 1.0 cc (.061 cu in).

Ether Starting AidSMCS - 1202-010
(1) Ether cylinder assembly. Position ± 20 degrees from vertical.
(2) Clamp assembly. Position clamp assembly 178 mm (7.01 in) vertically above ether valve assembly mounting holes.
(3) Ether valve assembly. With cylinder assembly (1) installed, the valve assembly provides 2.25 cc (.14 cu in) of ether through the steel tube to atomizer assembly (8) in the air inlet manifold system each time control panel switch (4) is pressed for three seconds, then released.
Locate as close to the engine inlet manifold as possible (do not mount on engine).
Do not mount in a location that subjects valve assembly and cylinder assembly (1) to temperatures greater than 93.3°C (200°F).
Install valve assembly so cylinder assembly (1) can be installed in a vertical position as shown.

(4) Control panel switch. Install switch close to operator's starting station. Switch requires clearance hole for 5/8inch diameter thread, and 38 mm (1.50 in) depth behind control panel or mounting bracket.

Location For Ether Atomizer Assembly And Temperature Switch Assembly.(6) Temperature switch assembly. (8) Ether atomizer assembly. (9) Temperature regulator housing. (10) Cylinder head. (11) Inlet manifold.
(6) Temperature switch assembly. The temperature switch will not allow starting fluid to reach the atomizer if the engine temperature is above 38°C (100°F). Final installation tighten to 1.2 N m (11 lb in).
Remove 3/8 inch pipe plug from temperature regulator housing (9) and install the temperature switch.
(7) Flexible tube assembly. Assemble 3.18 mm (.125 in) O.D. steel tubing between ether valve assembly (3) and ether atomizer assembly (8). Use the flexible tube assembly as a flexible connection between the two lines. The use of any additional length of tubing is not recommended. No electric wires are to be clamped to the ether line.
(8) Ether atomizer assembly. Remove 1/2 inch pipe plug from inlet manifold (11) and install atomizer assembly. Before atomizer assembly is tightened, turn identification mark to face front or rear of the engine.

(5) Install the compressor wheel (at room temperature) as follows:
a. Put compressor wheel on the shaft.
b. Put a small amount of clean engine oil on the threads.
c. Tighten the nut (CCW) to 14 to 17 N-m (125 to 150 lb in).
d. Loosen the nut and tighten again to 9 N m (80 lb in) plus an additional 60 degrees (1/6 turn).
NOTICE
Do not bend or add stress to the shaft when the nut is loosened ortightened.

Install with large end of tapered holes, identified by printed part number, toward outside. Lubricate with Amodrip 365 and press fit to dimension shown both ends. Cure after assembly at 71°C (160°F) for 16 hours or 21°C (70°F) minimum for 72 hours.

Push the crankshaft up against the top bearing. Write the measurement for bearing clearance on line 1 in column (C).
2. Divide the measurement from Step 1 by 2. Write this number on line 1 in columns (B) & (D).
3. Turn the crankshaft to put the dial indicator at (A). Adjust the dial indicator to "0" (zero).
4. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to put the dial indicator at (B). Write the measurement in the chart.
5. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to put the dial indicator at (C). Write the measurement in the chart.
6. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise to put the dial indicator at (D). Write the measurement in the chart.
7. Add lines I and II by columns.
