QUILL & SCROLL SPED Program Features Integration of Special Education, Inclusive Classroom To keep abreast with current trends in education, the Special Education (SPED) program of the Elementary Education De- partment of the College of Education (COE) initiated the semi- nar-workshop on SPED. The event, with the theme, “Keys to in- tegration: Special Education and Inclusive Education,” was held on March 1, 2018 at the Finster Hall of AUP. Guest resource person was the animated Dr. Peter Moriasi, As- sistant Professor of Chaldron State College, Nebraska, USA. “He is a certified Special Education licensed teacher who is passionate in ensuring that equitable opportunity exists for every learner in the regular classroom”, as introduced by Prof. Michelle Collado, SPED coordinator of COE. A total of 160+ participants registered from schools of Central Luzon Conference (CLC), South-Central Luzon Conference (SCLC), Southern Luzon Mission (SLM), and from Non- denominational institutions, many of whom came as early as 6:30 A.M. This particular seminar-workshop may be applied and regis- tered for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units under the category Self-directed Learning, upon submission of the certif- icate of attendance to the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC), which specifies the number of credit units, as explained by Dr. Jeremiah Fameronag, Chair of the Secondary Education depart- ment, COE during the CPD orientation part of the program. Just before the presentation of the resource person, the Academy Chorale presented a stellar performance of the song “The Coconut Nut” to the de- light and applause of the par- ticipants. Share Music Skills Conducted by Mr. Cyril Punay, the Academy Chorale and SPED majors led by Jen-nalyn Dela Vina presented their ministry in music and song for the teacher –participants. The Academy Chorale led the meditation and invocation with their power-ful rendition of “This Would be the Day”. This was fol-lowed by the Philippine Na-tional Anthem and the AUP School Song. Meanwhile, the SPED students shared their knowledge and skills in inte-gration of language and com-munication through the song “Above All” highlighted by sign language for the hearing impaired. Just before the presentation of the resource person, the Academy Chorale presented a stellar performance of the song “The Coconut Nut” to the de-light and applause of the par-ticipants.

AUP COE PROVIDES CPD SEMINARS, LAST ONE THIS YEAR

IN PALAWAN By Elmie Lynn V. Lagajino, AUP Cyberlink

AUP College of Education (COE) conducted its 3rd and last off-

campus Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar for 2017,

on December 20-22, in Taytay, Palawan. The interactive seminar with

the theme “Developing 21st Century Critical Thinkers, carried 24 units.

It is the maximum number of units allowed by the Philippine Regula-

tions Commission (PRC) for a 3-day seminar, and it was hosted by

Faith Adventist Academy (FAA) headed by Principal Janeth Bacomo,

and 105 teachers, mostly non-SDA in participation. Resource speakers

were Dr. Gracel Ann S. Saban who is the dean of COE, and Dr. Jeremi-

ah Fameronag, chair of the Secondary Education department of COE.

The first and second COE interactive seminars off-campus were held in

November in Northern Luzon Mission (NLM), Pangasinan, and in

Norhteast Luzon Mission (NELM), Isabela. A total of 6 seminars were

conducted by COE for 2017; 3 in –campus and 3 off-campus. Altogeth-

er, COE has served more than 700 teachers in the Philippines at the

close of 2017. PRC requires each professional teacher 45 units within 3

years for PRC license renewal. According to Dr. Saban, AUP COE

holds a CPD provider's PRC Accreditation # 2017-127 and the CPD in

Palawan holds a Program Accreditation # 2017-127-182. She added

that more CPD seminar-workshops are scheduled in 2018.
