Special Report (English)

1. MARINE TOURISM AND LEISURE INDUSTRY CONCPETS

(1) Concept and scope

① Tourism and leisure-related activities in and around the

water and coastal areas

The marine tourism and leisure industry includes manu-

facturing, facilities, and services consisting of all hobbies,

games, and education for tourism and leisure purposes

which people can enjoy on the water. Furthermore, it also

includes tourist activities for leisure and sports, peoples’

health and well-being, and emotional cultivation which

can occur on the water and surrounding coastal areas.

Marine tourism and leisure is an industry which systemati-

cally intertwines two or more elements such as marine lei-

sure-sports, marine tourism, marine culture, and maritime

space settlement.

② Marine tourism with strong recreation characteristics

Marine tourism has strong characteristics such as diversifi-

cation, characterisation, and complexity, as well as high

dependency and accountability on the marine ecosystem

and landscape. Therefore, as marine tourism and leisure

have diverse and complex factors, in order to maximize

the characteristics and attractiveness of marine space, it

must be contrasted against with general tourist destina-

tions to prevent clustered marine tourism and leisure cre-

ation, which may prove costly.

(2) Category and type

Marine tourism and leisure can be categorized and exam-

ined by leisure experience activities on and/or near the

water for either rest and/or leisure. There is a variety of

highly active marine tourism and leisure activities such as

windsurfing, motorboating, sailing to name a few. On or

near-shore marine activities can be established based on

tourist behaviour arising from relevant infrastructure.

2. CONTINUAL GROWTH TRENDS FROM MARINE CULTURE AND INFRASTRUCTURE

(1) Overseas trends and forecasts

① Global marine tourism and leisure market size expect-

ed to grow to $232.4 billion by 2020

Since the 1994 United Nations Convention on the Law of

the Sea(UNCLOS), developed countries have reaffirmed

the value and importance of the ocean and have devel-

oped a maritime strategy at the national level. They have

consistently and actively promoted the use of the sea as a

leisure space. According to statistics from the World

Ocean Industries Association(ICOMIA), the global marine

leisure industry size grew from $47 billion in 2006 to $75.1

billion in 2010 and is expected to grow to $232.4 billion by

2020. The World Tourism Organization(UNWTO) has

selected the marine leisure industry as a high-growth

industry and expects it to account for 50% of the future

global tourism market.

② Continuous growth trends arising from marine culture

and infrastructure

Analysis of the marine leisure equipment market size con-

sisting of motor boats and sailing yachts, etc, portrays

growth from $17 billion in 2005 to $28 billion in 2015. The

sailing yacht market size also grew drastically from $8 bil-

lion to $13 billion within the same period. The number of

total ships sold globally increased from 23 million in 2006

to over 27 million in 2010, and the trend is expected to

continue to reach over 38 million by 2020.

(2) Domestic trends and forecast

① Demand for marine tourism and leisure is steadily

increasing

Growth in national income, increased leisure time, and the

saturation of land-based tourist destinations is changing

people’s interests towards sea-based tourism. Also, the

change in marine leisure trends has seen steady growth

in the market size since 2010. Domestic marine leisure

equipment ownership has doubled from 4,178 in 2005 to

8,232 in 2010 and is expected to grow to 25,700 in 2019,

fueling a $700 billion market.

② Establishing government policies to secure new

demand for marine tourism and leisure

Government’s attention to policy is growing in order to fos-

ter demand for marine tourism and leisure. The develop-

ment of six marinas was prioritized in 2017 as well as per-

mitting residences within marina complexes. Also, marina

facility leasing and membership basis provision actively

promote investments for diverse marina development. In

addition, seven marine leisure centres were to be estab-

lished by 2017, with plans for small mooring facilities to be

installed at 10 major marine tourism destinations to

improve accessibility for boats and yachts. To strengthen

market competitiveness, a special development strategy

should be established by dividing the coastline by region

and designating marine leisure pilot schools to expand a

marine leisure base.

3. MARINE TOURISM AND LEISURE MAJOR DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS

(1) Marina industry

① Global market

There are 23,000 marinas worldwide, 28.4 million leisure

vessels, and the leisure vessel market is estimated at

13

$44.5 billion. Despite a downturn post-Global Financial

Crisis, the number of superyachts has nearly tripled in the

past five years to over 6,000 vessels. More than 85% of

the leisure vessel market is accounted for by North

America and Europe. Furthermore, Australia and New

Zealand are emerging as major players due to rising

yachting recognition and demand growth. Amongst Asian

nations, China is developing large marina ports:

Qingdao(1,466 berths), Xiamen(1,450 berths), Sanya(600

berths). Also, Taiwan, with a focus on small and medium

enterprises for superyacht production, is the world's sixth

largest producer.

② Domestic market

The domestic leisure vessel (yacht and boat) market has

been growing rapidly over the past five years with the

number of leisure vessels more than tripling and pilot ves-

sels more than doubling. On the other hand, there were

46 marinas in 2013 with 30 under full operation, and eight

under development. However, this is only a tenth of Japan

which has 570 marinas, highlighting Korea’s insufficient

supply compared to demand. In addition, there are only

about 10 leisure vessel manufacturers, which shows that

the basis for the marine tourism and leisure industry is

weak.

(2) Cruise industry

① Global market

Over the past decade, the global cruise market has

grown at CAGR 10.3%, and in 2012 there were an esti-

mated 20.14 million cruise tourists, with estimated direct

consumption of US$36.2 billion. Since then, cruise tourism

has grown at 4% per annum and is expected to increase

to 20.67 million by 2020. By the end of 2012, there were

377 cruise ships, with four companies owning 45.1% of

ships and 86% of passenger capacity. In Northeast Asia,

the number of cruise tourists grew from 800,000 in 2012

to 1 million in 2015. Rapid growth in Asia and Oceania has

seen cruise capacity proportions fall in the Americas and

Europe from 94% in 2000 to 82% in 2012.

② Domestic market

In response to the rapid growth of the global cruise tour-

ism market, the number of cruise tourists visiting Korea

has risen more than 20-fold from 30,000 in 2005 to

800,000 in 2013. However, with most visitors only stop-

ping over for one day, further efforts need to be made to

encourage longer visitations. In 2013, out of the 414 port

entries, a mere 14% or 60 port entries visited for two days

or more. In Jeju Island alone, the 189 port entries saw an

inflow of over 390,000 passengers making it a stronghold

in the domestic cruise tourism market.

(3) Marine ecotourism

① Global market

Ecotourism is one means of travel by experiencing,

observing and understanding nature whilst minimizing

environmental damage. In recent years, interest in envi-

ronmental and ecological protection has increased rapid-

ly, thus ecotourism had grown three times faster than gen-

eral tourism from the 1990s to the mid-2000s. According

to the UNWTO, ecotourism accounted for 7% of the glob-

al tourism market in 2007.

② Domestic market

The expansion of the five-day workweek and the forma-

tion of the ‘experience tourism' market has lead to continu-

ous growth in tidal flat exploration and bird-based tourism.

Following the opening of the Changwon Ramsar

Convention in 2008, interest in ecotourism has increased,

and in the case with Sunchon Bay, it was experienced

over 3 million visitors annually. The number of domestic

14

visitors to marine reserves increased from 2.46 million visi-

tors over five reserves in 2009 to 2.72 million visitors over

seven reserves in 2012, the rise in the number of eco-tour-

ists was predominantly at the Sindoori coast sand dunes

and marsh wetland reserves.

(4) Leisure fishing industry

① Global market

The United States is the world’s largest leisure fishing mar-

ket with a leisure fishing population of 37 million, a fishing

goods market worth KRW 17 trillion(USD 14.5 billion), and

total leisure fishing-related spending of KRW 37

trillion(USD 31.5 billion). In Asia, Japan is the largest mar-

ket with a leisure fishing population of 14 million and fish-

ing goods market worth KRW 2 trillion(USD 1.7 billion).

② Domestic market

The active leisure fishing population in Korea increased by

13.8% from 5.73 million in 2005 to 6.52 million in 2010.

The fishing goods market was worth KRW 326.9

billion(USD 280 million) and the service sector was worth

KRW 1.3 trillion(USD 1.1 billion). In total, the domestic fish-

ing leisure fishing industry was worth KRW 1.71

trillion(USD 1.5 billion). In 2013, the government estab-

lished the “Basic Plan for Fishing Promotion” to improve

fishing environment, expand the fishing equipment mar-

ket, and educate fisherman by planning on investing KRW

30.8 billion(USD 26 million) by 2018.

(5) Underwater leisure industry

① Global market

The global underwater leisure population has grown

exponentially since the 1960s currently with an estimated

population of 6 million people and an annual market size

of $40 to $60 billion. Currently, there are over 30 organiza-

tions and associations including the World Underwater

Federation and the Professional Diving Instructor

Association with a focus on education, equipment and

facility accreditation.

② Domestic market

There are approximately 300,000 divers and 190 diving

shops in Korea. According to the 2010 Korean coast-

guard statistics, 120,000 people experience underwater

leisure activities annually, and 10 domestic organizations

such as the Korea Underwater Association and the Korea

Diving Association freely issued education and certifica-

tion. Currently, there are no laws related to underwater lei-

sure activities. Legislation is needed to prevent underwa-

ter leisure activity-related accidents and legalize transpor-

tation means.

4. MARINE TOURISM AND LEISURE IMPLEMENTATION CONDITIONS AND TREND ANALYSIS

(1) Review of legislative conditions

① Internal condition review

Geographically, Korea is located in the middle of

Northeast Asia and is able to attract tourists from the

region, especially China. In addition, being a peninsula

with unique coastal marine tourism resources is able to

meet a variety of tourism demands. However, the domes-

tic marine tourism and leisure activities are limited due to a

lack of professionals and interconnection between tourism

resources. There is a lack of tourism goods and high, val-

ue-added contents from underdevelopment, lack of

accommodation, etc. at beaches and other preexisting

tourism destinations.

② External condition review

Following the implementation of the five-day workweek

Page 17: Special Report MARINE TOURISM AND LEISURE INDUSTRY ... · HFV-WM (Wafer type Cone Meter)IVCM (Integral Valve Cone Meter) DP HiCone Meter 전단 3D 후단 1D의 짧은 직관부를

15

and an improved national income has led to an increase

in interest and participation in marine tourism and leisure

activities. Also, there is a greater inflow of foreign tourists

from the ‘Hallyu'(Korean) wave and a growing tourism

market in Northeast Asia. In addition, greater attention to

policy and support is expected to help expand the cre-

ative economy. However, considering an unstable global

economy, there is a concern that fluctuating tourism

demand and inflation will cause tourist activities to con-

tract. In order to overcome these issues, the government

ought to formulate pre-emptive, middle-term policies in

preparation to cope with short term risk factors as seen in

the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries’ ‘Basic Plan

of Marine Tourism Promotion’.

③ Domestic policy trends

In addition to suggested marine tourism set forth by the

Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries’ inaugural ‘Basic

Plan of Marine Tourism Promotion’ in 2004, the govern-

ment announced a second marine tourism promotion

plan in 2014, which includes mid- to long-term measures

to advance marine leisure sports. Through R&D for the

development of new marine leisure and tourism, selection

and promotion of leading businesses, and development

of the industry and create economic development oppor-

tunities, the government is aiming to expand the number

of professionals in the marine tourism and leisure industry

by 2023. In addition, seven specialized coastal jurisdic-

tions were established according to regional conditions.

(2) Marine tourism and leisure trends

① Increased interest in health and healing, and the need

for products tailored to global trends

With an ageing population, interest in rest, healing, and

health are increasing, and marine healthcare and healing

programs are being emphasized. In addition, reduced spa-

tial distances from improved transportation and information

and communications have facilitated international socio-cul-

tural exchange and the emergence of converging cultures,

establishing an environment capable of effectively attracting

tourists. SaeManGeum’s proximity to China and Japan is

ideal for attracting tourists. Therefore, it is necessary to pro-

vide tourist services such as food and accommodation as

well as developing tourist products that interconnect marine

culture and various other resources.

② Marine tourism and leisure contents are leading future

tourist trends

As in-land tourist activity spaces gradually move towards

the coast, interest and demand in marine leisure is

increasing. In Korea alone, people experiencing marine

leisure sports grew 21.6% from 600,000 in 2012 to

730,000 in 2014. It is now time to strategically approach

the vitalization of marine leisure sports through infrastruc-

ture developments and strengthened services. Ideal con-

ditions need to be established to satiate SaeManGeum’s

marine leisure demand.

③ Importance of ecological value and demand division

emphasizing emotional and experience-led tourism

Increasing interest in climate change and sustainable tour-

ism behaviour in conjunction with the government’s green

growth are emphasizing the need for environmentally-

friendly tourist development projects and policies to cope

with increasing demand for ecological experiences. In

addition, social phenomena emphasizing the importance

of society’s individuality and sensitivity as well as rein-

forced information sharing through SNS’s expansion, tour-

ism content development trends are changing.

Furthermore, in order to cater to these trends, the industry

to pursuing customized tourism contents and value-add-

ed product development.

Feature Story

1. Product name, HS code: Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS), HS84221

The Ballast Water Treatment System(BWTS) is a device which removes and disinfects (micro)organisms from the bal-last’s water. It also prevents foreign organisms from different regions from entering local waters. Large ships often fill their ballast tanks with water to allow it to partially submerge. In this way, ballast water is injected and discharged from the ballast tank to balance the ship accord-ing to the load. In the case of large container ships, approxi-mately 100,000 tons of ballast water is required. When ships arrive at the port to unload cargo, ballast water from different regions are discharged into the sea. During this process, foreign (micro)organisms have the potential to damage the local marine ecosystem. BWTS’s widely use electrolysis, ozone spraying, ultraviolet (UV), or chemical treatments.

2. Market size and trend

BWTS market expansion was expected following the International Maritime Organization’s(IMO) agreement in 2004 to prevent damage to local marine ecosystem’s from ballast water discharge by mandating BWTS on all vessels. However, installing BWTS to over 50,000 ships was deemed physically impossible, as a result, in 2017, the IMO agreed to extend the deadline to 2024, effectively slowing expected market growth. Under the agreement, all dry-docked vessels are obliged to install the BWTS, and all operational vessels will be obliged to install the BWTS when they dry-dock to undergo their inspection every five years. However, as the mandatory installation period was extended, vessels dry-docking before September 8, 2019, will not obliged to install the BWTS, and vessels having already passed inspections are only required to install the BWTS before September 8, 2024.

(1) Global market sizeIn 2016, the global BWTS market was worth an estimated USD $14.2 billion. Driven by the IMO agreement and grow-ing global trade, the market is growing at 25.2% YoY, and is expected to be worth over $117.6 billion by 2025. In particu-lar, growth in North America is expected to reach $59.5 bil-lion by 2025, closely followed by Europe and then Asia.BWTS is a high-end product costing on average $400,000 per unit. Globally there are 65 BWTS manufacturers. The fil-tration and UV disinfection system leads the BWTS market. (Marked in Figure 1 as ‘physical disinfection’) Although, UV disinfection systems, compared to electrolytic, and chemical disinfection systems, are disadvantageous in murky waters, performance is constantly improving. However, UV systems

lead the market due to lower costs and smaller space utilization. Electrolysis(EL) and electrochemical(EC) systems are under-stood to be especially advantageous in bulk carriers and large oil tankers. On the other hand, the equipment replacement cycle from deterioration is expected to take 10 to 12 years, with a devel-opment time of five years and development costs between USD$8 to 10 million.

(2) DenmarkAs of 2018, there were an expected 950 Danish national ves-sels, with numbers expected to increase to 1,125 by 2028. As a result, demand for BWTS in Demark is expected to be significant.

based on price, quality and market positioning. Competition is intensifying between various developed countries and regions such as the US, Europe and developing Asian coun-ties. Norway’s Optimizer has attempted to become a market leader by offering a 5-year service guarantee, ahead of the IMO’s implementation of environmental regulations.Related companies include Alfa Laval(Sweden), Panasia(Korea), OceanSaver(Norway), Qingdao Sunrui(China), JFE Engineering(Japan), Qingdao Headway Technology(China), Optimarin(Norway), Hyde Marine(United States of America), Veolia Water Technologies(France), Techcross(Korea), Siemens(Germany), Ecochlor(United States of America), Industrie De Nora(Singapore), MMC Green Technology (Norway), Wartsila(Finland), EI Treatment Systems(United States of America), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries(Japan), Desmi(Denmark), Trojan Marinex(Canada).IMO certification is a must, and USCG certification is required when calling US ports. Ship owners prefer BWTS’s with USCG certification, as a result, BWTS manufacturers are focusing their efforts on obtaining USCG approval. Currently,

3. Scale of imports for the past three years and import trends of top 10 countriesStatistically, Germany and Sweden account for the majority of imports. However, given that most work is carried out in countries where shipyards are located, the following statistics are meaningless for Denmark. There are no large-scale ship-yards in Denmark, and installation work is carried out at ship’s country of origin according to its schedule, therefore delivery is made to that country.

4. Demark import size and trends

As mentioned previously, most products are exported direct-ly to the ship’s country of origin, as a result, imports to Denmark are considerably low.

5. Competition trends and major competitors

there are eight Korean companies with USCG certifications, including Techcross and Samsung Heavy Industries. Over the next one to two years, additional product approvals are expected.

6. Distribution structure

It is under the ship owner’s discretion to decide which BWTS to install. The ship’s owner usually receives advice and opin-ions from the ship’s builder when deciding which BWTS to install in their new ships. In addition, agents can market directly to the ship’s owner. Agents include the Berg & Larsen Group (http://berg-larsen.com/website/) and Hausschildt Marine a/S (http://www.hauschildtmarine.dk/).

7. Relevant certifications and tariff rates

(1) IMO certification, as well as USCG certifications for opera-tions within US waters, are required.

(2) Tariffs for Korean products are 0%.

8. Implications

As mentioned above, competition is intensifying in the US and Europe as well as developing countries such as China. As the IMO convention nears full effect, the existing market will open-up and rapid growth is expected until 2024.Danish shipowners prefer USCG-certified products for its stability. Therefore, it is necessary to quickly acquire the certi-fications and market actively. The Danish Shipowners Association emphasizes that there is a high possibility that market growth will be temporary and limited(mainly around maintenance following installation), and in the process of market stabilization, reorganization will be focused around the market leaders. Accordingly, it is recommended that Korea’s KORMARINE, China’s Marinetec, and Norway’s Nor-Shipping participate in exhibitions attended by Danish ship owners.

US Coast Guard)

Chevron Marine Lubricants Publishes New 2020 Global Sulphur Cap White Paper

Chevron Marine Lubricants has released the second in a series of new white papers focusing on innovations and developments impacting the fast-changing shipping industry. This latest white paper, entitled ‘The 2020 Global Sulphur Cap and the role of cylinder oil lubricants’ explores the impact of ships burn-ing fuels with differing sulphur contents to heavy sulphur fuel oil cyl-inder oil use. The paper also offers advice form Chevron Marine Lubricant experts on how to manage the transition between cylin-der oils pre-and post-2020.As the global shipping industry prepares for the arrival of the global

sulphur cap in January 2020, the operation of ships in a multi-fuel future is a fast approaching reality. Lubricants are essential to the smooth operation and service life of propulsion machinery, but their optimal use is highly dependent on fuel sulphur content. A diversi-fied marine fuel mix demands tailoring lubricant selection to fuel sul-phur content to ensure compatibility with fuels bunkered across a fleet. With an entry into force date of January 1, 2020, stricter fuel sulphur content restrictions imposed on the global fleet has put the industry on the verge of what will be the most significant period of change in

the past decades. Under the new rules, ships must burn fuels with a sulphur content of no more than 0.50% m/m or a maximum equivalent emission output. This is a significant drop from the cur-rent limit of 3.50% which has been in effect since 1 January 2012.Lubrication is the lifeblood of an engine, the dominant function of cylinder oil being to protect the engine from acidic corrosion. Regardless of the compliance route chosen, bunkering low sulphur fuel alternatives versus installation of scrubbers on board, cylinder oil lubricant use will be impacted due to its synergetic relationship with the sulphur content in fuel. Chevron is a leader in providing complete and reliable lubrication solutions for ships using virtually any fuel type. Its new full range of Taro® Ultra cylinder lubricants, from the low 25 BN Taro® Ultra 25 to the 140 BN Taro® Ultra 140, provide solutions for the complex operating requirements of today, and tomorrow.Alongside the use of Chevron’s Taro® Ultra cylinder lubricants, Chevron’s DOT.FAST® service is used to optimise engine lubrica-

tion and manage feedrates. DOT.FAST® provides both on-board and onshore analysis of drip oil giving an accurate measurement of total iron wear, including corrosive wear. Combining both a drip oil analyser for iron wear and a BN tester, it is the best such service in the market today.Ian Thurloway, Brand and Marketing Manager for Chevron Marine Lubricants says: “As an industry leader with one of the best supply networks in the world and a full range of products to meet the diverse range of needs of both today and tomorrow, Chevron remains committed to providing reliable solutions for the marine fuels of the future. To meet the uncertain demands of 2020, Chevron’s global supply network has been further strengthened to provide a robust, flexible and agile model to ensure supply in a changing landscape. From ship visits to FAST and DOT.FAST fluid analysis, Chevron’s world-class technical support team hold the expertise to help you transition to 2020.”

Recently, Alfa Laval inaugurated the Alfa Laval PureSOx Training Centre in Shanghai, China. Focused on the training of commissioning engineers, the new facili-ty will be instrumental in ramping up the skilled workforce prior to the global sulphur cap. But with its full-sized PureSOx scrub-ber, it will also provide crew training oppor-tunities for customers.Alfa Laval has not only invested heavily in PureSOx manufacturing operations, but is also working to further expand its service and training resources in exhaust gas cleaning. As more PureSOx scrubbers are installed to meet the global sulphur cap,

skilled local engineers will be required to commission the many systems.“As the need grows, both the availability and the quality of local knowledge will be essential in meeting it,” says Erik Haveman, Sales Director, Exhaust Gas Cleaning. “The Alfa Laval PureSOx Training Centre in Shanghai will support both our global efforts and the preparation of commission-ing engineers in Northeast Asia.”With its full-sized PureSOx scrubber sys-tem, the new PureSOx Training Centre gives Alfa Laval autonomy in providing on-the-job training to commissioning engi-neers. Trainees will no longer have to wait for a suitable vessel and installation, but will instead be able to hone their commission-ing skills in an environment that is as close to reality as possible. This will ensure that they are fully prepared for the onboard work of bringing customer systems online. In keeping with this thinking, the design of the open-loop system is based on an exist-ing customer project. However, instead of being connected to an engine, the facility’s

scrubber is part of a detailed simulation, in which no exhaust gas is used but values and signals related to the exhaust gas are accurately reproduced. Because the sys-tem has all of the real ancillaries, including valves and pumps, it does use a real flow of water, which is recirculated to minimize waste.“We’ve shortened the scrubber a bit to fit it indoors, and there are plexiglass portholes and internal lighting that allow trainees to see the flow within the scrubber,” Haveman says. “But in all other respects, right down to the Alfa Laval Touch Control system, the look, feel and overall experience is exactly what it would be on board.”Having the PureSOx Training Centre in Shanghai will increase the speed and effectiveness of training Alfa Laval commis-sioning engineers during the ramp-up phase connected to 2020. “This is an important step in delivering to customers, who depend on us to bring their systems into operation smoothly,” says Haveman. As a further and ongoing service to cus-tomers, the new facility will also be possible

A collaborative pilot project undertaken by WinGD and ship man-agement company Enterprises Shipping & Trading to demonstrate the power of WinGD’s Integrated Digital Expert(WiDE) predictive maintenance technology onboard the crude oil tanker Energy Triumph has been recognized for its industry impact. The pilot project which saw WinGD’s WiDE system installed on Energy Triumph, a 157,000 DWT tanker powered by a WinGD 6X72 engine, began at the end of 2018. The demonstration of the technology’s immense potential for advancing condition-based monitoring capabilities and moving shipping towards the goal of predictive maintenance during the pilot project was recognized by WinGD’s receipt of the Intelligent Monitoring & Maintenance Award at the Marine Propulsion Awards 2019.WiDE is a comprehensive, integrated system of digital solutions that enhances the operational efficiency and crew decision-making accuracy related to engine and ship operations. The smart system provides real-time, on-demand monitoring of engine status and condition through the collection and intelligent analysis of engine and machinery data. The advanced analytics applied are based on WinGD’s engine design expertise, specific machinery data, correlated statistical and predictive models, and machine learning algorithms. Collected engine data is analyzed through three different levels of analysis: thermodynamic, know-how-based and machine learning. The combination of such analyses gives the full engine diagnostic pic-

ture and valuable engine expertise to create real understanding of the engine condition.Thermodynamic analysis monitors engine performance based on a detailed thermo-physical process model of the engine; a digital twin, custom-produced for each vessel engine. It then acts as the “reference” engine performance for any possible engine operation setting, the ambient conditions, and the type of fuel. The model is tuned separately for each individual engine and is calibrated using the recorded data from an engine’s shop tests. Analyzed data is further validated using the sea trials data. The model constantly cal-culates the ideal engine performance and defines a “reference opti-mal condition” which varies depending on the environmental and operational conditions measured in real-time on the ship.As such, the use of this predictive maintenance technology and its intelligent data analysis provides predictive maintenance, diagnos-tic advice, engine optimization and rapid support in the case of an engine malfunction.A troubleshooting feature provides operators with instructions on how to solve engine problems in case of an alarm or if a failure occurs, often before the failure occurs. If a problem is detected, the system identifies the part involved and automatically provides draw-ings and documents of the components affected. The WinGD support center provides regular reports on the health status of the machinery, including recommendations for optimal engine operations combining the best of digitalization expertise and person-to-person customer service.Rolf Stiefel, VP Sales, WinGD says: “Engine data analytics enables predictive maintenance which can greatly reduce OPEX and increase TBO. Our WiDE system is a game-changer technology for the industry and we are honored to receive the Intelligent Monitoring & Maintenance Award at the Marine Propulsion Awards 2019.”Vangelis Candiotis, Fleet Manager, Technical Department, Enterprises Shipping & Trading says: “We are excited to see the industry recognize the potential that our collaboration with WinGD brings. We are proud to be the pilot vessel for this ground-breaking technology and we anticipate that together we will see very positive strides towards greater efficiency and a deeper understanding of the health of our vessel.”

to use for crew trainings. The unique setup, which pairs an accurate onboard experi-ence with focus and calm that are seldom found on a real vessel, will be as beneficial

for crew learning as it is for Alfa Laval’s own engineers.“We invite all customers to Shanghai, whether for training or simply to see a

PureSOx scrubber in person,” says Haveman. “When they visit, it will be our pleasure to show them how we train our own staff to meet their needs.”

Visitors to the iconic Niagara Falls will soon be able to experience one of the USA’s top landmarks emission-free. Two new Maid of the Mist passenger vessels will be powered entirely by high-capacity battery packs, becoming the first all-electric vessels ever built in the US.The new vessels will benefit from ABB’s zero-emission technology when they start operating later this year, allowing guests to experi-ence Niagara Falls undisturbed by engine noise, vibration or exhaust fumes from a conventional diesel engine.Maid of the Mist, one of North America’s oldest tourist attractions, operates from April through to the first week of November, with boats departing for the base of Niagara Falls every 30 minutes, with an estimated 1.6 million guests on board annually.“We are thrilled to be the USA’s first vessel owner to add all-electric ferries to our fleet,” said Christopher M. Glynn, president of Maid of the Mist Corp. “We have chosen ABB to support us in our journey towards more sustainable operation based on their unparalleled experience in marine system integration, as well as efficient and innovative technologies for sustainable transportation.”“Maid of the Mist’s decisive move towards e-mobility signals a new era in the future of transportation and complements ABB’s commit-ment to power the world without consuming the earth,” said Peter Terwiesch, President of the Industrial Automation business at ABB, which offers solutions for a wide range of industries, including marine. “Reducing emissions at Niagara Falls is not only important for the natural landmark, but also proves that the technologies enabling sustainable mobility are already available today.”Each of the vessels will be powered by a pair of battery packs with

a total capacity of 316 kWh, split evenly between two catamaran hulls. Having two fully independent power systems on board will increase the resilience of operations by creating a redundancy. The vessels will charge between every trip while passengers dis-embark and board. Shoreside charging will only take seven min-utes, allowing the batteries to power the electric propulsion motors capable of a total 400 kW(563 HP) output. The power setup will be controlled by ABB’s integrated Power and Energy Management System(PEMS), which will optimize the energy use on board. The batteries will be charged using hydropower – the largest single renewable energy source for electricity generation in the US, which accounts for 7% of the country’s total utility-scale electricity genera-tion. The use of locally produced renewable power will make the energy cycle for the operation of the new Maid of the Mist vessels entirely emission-free.Sustainable transportation has a crucial role in the fight against cli-mate change, with shipping accounting for 2 to 3 percent of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions. The International Maritime Organization, a United Nations agency responsible for regulating shipping, has set a global target to cut annual emissions by at least 50 percent by 2050 from 2008 levels. In addition to integrating the ship-to-shore battery charging connec-tion, ABB will supply the Maid of the Mist newbuilding project with switchboards, drives and the integrated control system, as well as the ABB Ability™ Marine Remote Diagnostic System for remote equipment monitoring and predictive maintenance. ABB Ability™ is ABB’s leading offering of digital solutions and services.

Inmarsat, the world leader in global mobile satellite communica-tions, has confirmed that it is renewing its support for London International Shipping Week(LISW) when the event returns for its fourth edition from 9th to 13th September 2019. Inmarsat will be holding two industry-shaping events at its City Road headquarters during LISW, focusing on the crucial industry topics of crew welfare and digitalisation.“Our events on digital disruption, cyber security and maritime safety during LISW 2017 demonstrated how satellite connectivity plays a pivotal role in enabling and accelerating the digitalisation of the entire shipping industry,” said Ronald Spithout, President, Inmarsat Maritime.“In 2019, we are taking a more focused approach to the conversa-tion, assessing how the new digital reality is taking shape in a vari-ety of operational and business settings, including the importance of Maritime start-ups, and delivering more collaboration and interoperability.”On 10th September, Inmarsat will host a day-long ‘digitalisation’ event. The day will begin with the launch of a new report into Maritime Start-Ups with presentations from successful Start-Up accelerator programmes across the UK and Europe. This will be followed by a ‘Digitalisation in Marine Insurance’ seminar hosted by Insurance Marine News. The afternoon session will begin with a keynote speech from world-leading futurist Gerd Leonhard, and conclude with a panel discussion on Diversity and Digitalisation in the shipping industry. Inmarsat will co-host this latter event with the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association(WISTA) International.Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, WISTA International President said: “The transformation that digitalisation is bringing to the industry is not only in technology and operational processes but also in the way it provides access and opportunity to a more diverse skill set and population. Innovative and forward-thinking leaders in our industry recognise that diverse thoughts, skill sets and approaches are the only way to keep pace with our rapidly changing industry.”The second day(11th September), the four LISW nominated chari-ties will come together to ask the industry to share its thoughts on the impact of technology on crew welfare, with a particular empha-

sis on mental well-being. As the industry embraces new technolo-gies to make shipping safer, quicker and more environmentally friendly, Apostleship of the Sea(Stella Maris), The Mission to Seafarers, Sailors’ Society and Seafarers UK will draw on their 400+ years of combined experience to explore with industry leaders what the seafarers of the future will need in terms of welfare provision. The crew welfare event at Inmarsat’s HQ will also include a keynote speech from Dr Grahaeme Henderson, Vice President, Shipping & Maritime, Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Ltd on: ‘How Shipping Can Thrive: Today, Tomorrow and in the Future’. As a core backbone for their vision to be the leading provid-er of technology-driven maritime solutions and transform customers experience the Wallem Group has chosen BASSnet™ Fleet Management Systems. BASS, the leading provider of maritime software solutions, is pleased that Wallem has selected the complete suite of integrated soft-ware to manage their entire fleet. The signing of Wallem marks a key milestone for BASS, sig-naling a wider move to complete enterprise solutions in the maritime industry as a means to effectively standardize ship processes. Wallem has chosen to use BASSnet™ as a total solution for maintenance, safety, operational and financial management, among others, on a fleet-wide basis. The inte-grated nature, superior functionality and clear technological strategy of BASSnet™ were of pivotal importance in Wallem’s decision to sign with BASS.Frank Coles, CEO of Wallem Group said, “Having run sever-al maritime software companies and considering the com-plexities of operations, compliance and the regulatory envi-ronment, I was keen to not reinvent the wheel.” Coles added, “We have chosen to install a cloud based COTS solution, without customization. Exactly how digitalisation is supposed to be done. We are going to defy the myth that ship operations and management needs to be different, or somehow special. It does not need all the disparate or heav-ily customized homegrown systems. This is the stuff of myths created by a lack of understanding and/or old fash-ioned operational beliefs and techniques.”Coles concluded, “In my view, offering transparency, analyt-ics and business intelligence is the way forward for high-per-formance fleet management, and implementing a complete enterprise solution from BASSnet™ will allow us to integrate the power of big data with our business processes. We are going to walk the talk.”“BASSnet™ Fleet Management Systems is a complete solu-tion that removes the reliance on multiple vendors for piece-meal software,” noted Per Steinar Upsaker, CEO and Managing Director of BASS. “We have prioritized a well-thought-out strategy that is forward-looking, comprehensive

Modular floating pontoon supplier Northern Pontoon used a 3,000kg working load limit(WLL) lightweight gantry crane from Reid Lifting to anchor a solar system on the Langthwaite Reservoir in Lancashire, UK recently. The floating array features approximately 3,700 pontoon modules and 3,520 solar panels. The 7,200 square-metre system will provide a megawatt of power, equivalent to the needs of 200 homes. Integral to successful installation was a Porta-Gantry crane from Reid, which was onsite for three weeks at varying intervals during the eight-week project.Northern Pontoon sourced the gantry, chain block, and other equipment from Gap Hire Solutions’ Lancaster Plant & Tools depot. It is a collaboration lesser known for its solar-related work, given local weather in England’s northwestern corner. However, recent advancements in solar technology mean such systems can generate power when exposed to daylight, not necessarily the warm sunshine their use might previously have been associated with.Lisa Morris, sales manager at Northern Pontoon, said: “The gantry enabled us to drop the anchor blocks for the sea flex anchoring system. We used it to pull the ropes from the anchor block to a set tension to the attached floating array. This allows for the rise and fall of the structure. We found the solution online and, upon consultation with our contacts at Gap, the equipment was delivered to the site. We regularly source product from them and, once again, they facilitated a

successful material handling solution; we would certainly consider implementing it again.”Morris explained that the grey ‘cubes’ in the photo are pontoons that can support approximately 250kg per square metre in a single layer. In this case, the pontoon was double-stacked for added stability before the gantry was assembled on top and secured in place with ratchets. Morris reported that stability even under load was secure; the pontoon also carried personnel, equipment, safety fencing, and other equipment. The application is another example of the versatility of the Reid lightweight gantry and davit crane range. The Porta-Gantry itself is renowned for its light weight, portability, ease of assembly, and safety. It offers a range of configurations, lift-ratings, and personnel lifting options, including a 5,000kg WLL version. Based in the South of Cumbria, Northern Pontoon offers the hire and sale of modular floating pontoon systems throughout the UK, Europe, and further afield. Chepstow, Wales-based Reid was recently purchased by Pure Lifting, a holding company formed to create a global business of innovative and portable equipment.

ABB’s situational awareness solution, ABB Ability™ Marine Pilot Vision, will allow MS Finlandia to enhance safety during maneuvering and dockingABB and Eckerö Line teams will install ABB Ability™ Marine Pilot Vision on board cruise ferry MS Finlandia with no inter-ruption to the ship’s schedule. In addition to the mechanical interface, ABB Marine & Ports Digital Service teams will sup-port the crew to maximize the value from the system and integrate the additional tool with their current bridge team operations.ABB Ability™ Marine Pilot Vision offers multiple real-time visualizations of a vessel’s surroundings presenting the ship and its environment in ways beyond the capabilities of the human eye. With ABB Ability™ Marine Pilot Vision is deployed, a virtual model of the ship is superimposed on real surroundings measured using various sensor technologies. This allows for monitoring the vessel and its surroundings from a birds-eye view and switching to other views instantaneously. The solu-tion makes it easier to predict vessel motions with respect to the actual surroundings and gives the user visibility of previ-ously hidden obstacles.“Our goal is to improve environmental performance and safety, and we worked with ABB to achieve greater efficiency

in docking and high traffic situations. Our customers demand high levels of safety in all conditions and this solu-tion enables our crew to provide a reliable service that doesn’t comprise their expectations,” said Daniel Olsén, Technical Manager, Eckerö Group. “Digitalization provides solutions for existing and newbuild ships alike,” said Jyri Jusslin, Head of Global Service, ABB Marine & Ports. “This retrofit does exactly that. Enhancing docking safety and efficiency will also allow Finlandia’s crew to support their schedule, in conditions that can vary from bright sunlight to dark icy conditions throughout the year.”The cruise ferry is operated by the Finnish shipping compa-ny Eckerö Line and makes return voyages three times daily between Helsinki in Finland and Tallinn in Estonia.

Bermudan tanker owner and operator Team Tankers International has committed four additional ships to using the protection of the anti-barnacle active agent Selektope® fol-lowing distinguished fouling prevention performance during a 40-month trial of an antifouling coating containing the tech-nology on an MR tanker in their fleet. The vertical sides of the 46,067DWT chemical and products carrier Team Calypso were coated with Chugoku Marine Paints’ SEAFLO NEO CF-Premium antifouling coating that contains Selektope® during its five-year drydocking at the Sembcorp shipyard, Singapore in 2015.During the last 40 months the MR tanker has been in active operation across a wide range of trade routes globally, often sailing in global biofouling hotspots with > 25oC(up to 32oC) water temperatures where the risk of biofouling is very high. The vessel has also spent several extended periods idling in these zones. However, during the trial, barnacles failed to anchor them-selves to the tanker’s hull thanks to the protection from Selektope® which activates the barnacle larvae’s octopa-mine receptor, keeping them in swimming mode and pre-venting them from attaching to the hull with non-fatal effect. A hull inspection conducted at month 35 in the tanker’s in-water-survey schedule established that Team Calypso’s hull was virtually barnacle free with no soft fouling coverage.Independent third-party data analysis has also verified the fouling prevention performance of the Selektope®-powered hull coating. At month 40, total added resistance on Team Calypso’s hull and propeller due to fouling is exceptionally low, at 16%, compared to up to 30% expected for a refer-ence ship of similar age, size and trading patterns. Of that 16% total, added resistance on the hull accounted for 10% whereas added resistance on the propeller accounted for the remaining 7%. The development of added resistance was calculated at a rate equivalent to 0.4% per month, com-pared to the expected rate of between 0.5% and 1.5%.I-Tech AB CEO Philip Chaabane comments: “This tanker

owner is reaping the fuel saving benefits associated with a Selektope®-powered antifouling coating. The independent data analysis coupled with the underwater hull inspection prove that Selektope® delivers strong protection from hard fouling, whatever the vessel’s activity or trading pattern.”Team Tankers Performance & Environmental Manager Capt. Pär Brandholm comments: “Team Calypso has operated for over three years since last dry dock, and we can conclude that the fouling of the hull remains at a very low level and we hope the trend will continue being flat. We anticipate similar performance for our vessels Team Tapatio, Team Toccata, Team Tosca and Team Leader using the same hull coating containing Selektope®.”Chugoku Marine Paints Sales Manager Northern Europe Peter Douma comments: “Chugoku Marine Paints is proud to offer an antifouling system containing Selektope® that delivers outstanding performance for a multitude of vessel types, docking intervals, trading patterns and activity. The effectiveness of our SEAFLO NEO CF-PREMIUM has been demonstrated by the results achieved on Team Calypso.”With multiple major coatings suppliers now turning to this antifouling active agent to enhance the hard fouling preven-tion offered by their antifouling products, I-Tech AB is urging ship owners to check whether Selektope® is present in the antifouling systems being considered during their coating selection process.

Chevron Marine Lubricants will use this edition of the Nor-Shipping international maritime trade show held in Oslo, Norway between June 3-7, to explore IMO 2020 solutions including the new Taro® Ultra range of Global Sulphur Cap-ready cylinder oil lubricants, drip oil analysis DOT.FAST® testing program and FAST™ equipment condition monitor-ing service. As the global shipping industry prepares for the arrival of the Global Sulphur Cap in January 2020, the operation of ships in a multi-fuel future is a fast approaching reality. Lubricants are essential to the smooth operation and service life of pro-pulsion machinery, but their optimal use is highly dependent on fuel sulphur content.Regardless of the compliance route chosen, bunkering low sulphur fuel alternatives-versus installation of scrubbers on board- cylinder oil lubricant use will be impacted. The use of one type of fuel oil by the majority of the global fleet accom-panied by one type of lubricant will soon become a thing of the past. In the post-2020 industry, the role of the cylinder oil lubricant will become ever more crucial in protecting the engine.Choosing the right cylinder oil with the correct BN and feed rate can be particularly challenging for ship owners navigat-ing the shift to meeting compliance requirements and bun-kering different types of fuel. Having launched the new Taro Ultra range of cylinder oil lubricants in in September 2018,

Chevron will use Nor-Shipping to advise and educate the ship owning community on transitioning their cylinder oil lubricant use in preparation for fuel sulphur-constricted oper-ations in 2020.Chevron will also host a seminar to explore key trends impacting shipping in the run up to the implementation of IMO 2020 emissions legislation on June 4 at 13.00.During the seminar, Chevron experts and invited speakers will deliver the latest update regarding the IMO 2020 regula-tion will be discussed, 2020 fuel oil quality aspects as well as guidance on potential operational aspects related to supply and use of 0.50% S fuel oils. The seminar will also provide attendees with the opportunity to explore both lubricant and fuel issues that affect the industry globally and Chevron will provide an update on developments regarding Chevron Marine Lubricants products and services in preparation for 2020. There will be an opportunity for networking and to meet some of Chevron Marine Lubricants team.Monique Vermeire, Chevron Fuels Technologist, will be speaking at this event. Monique is a member of the CIMAC Fuel Oil WG7, convener of the ISO Classification and Specification of Marine Fuels Working Group and represents Chevron in other industry organizations such as IPIECA and EI.Additionally, Ian Thurloway our Brand and Marketing Manager will be speaking. Ian has over a decade worth of experience and knowledge within the Marine industry and has been a key member involved in the roll out of Chevron’s new cylinder oil range. Ian has vast experience across the Chevron businesses having had roles in trading, aviation and business development before returning to marine lubricants in 2016 and has a degree in mechanical engineering and diesel technology.

ABB will provide a power and propulsion solution for a new-build vessel operating along the Rhône river in France to run entirely on hydrogen fuel cellsABB strengthens its position as the marine market’s frontrun-ner on hydrogen fuel cell technology through its role in FLAGSHIPS, the EU-funded initiative to deploy commercially operated zero-emission vessels for inland and short sea operations.Under this initiative, ABB will provide a fuel cell based power and propulsion solution for a newbuilt push boat for the France-based Sogestran Group subsidiary Compagnie Fluviale de Transport(CFT), due for delivery in 2021. With hydrogen for the fuel cells sourced from shore-based renew-able energy, the complete vessel energy chain will be emis-sion-free.“CFT has been an inland waterways innovator for more than half a century. Powering river transport in a sustainable way is a new type of challenge, but it has become vital that we cut emissions on Europe’s inland waterways and specifically in the city centers. With this project, we aim to highlight that emission-free operation is both feasible and commercially viable,” said Matthieu Blanc, COO at CFT.“Taking an active role in the FLAGSHIPS initiative, ABB con-tinues to push the boundaries of e-mobility in shipping,” said Peter Terwiesch, President of the Industrial Automation busi-ness at ABB, which offers solutions for a wide range of industries, including marine. “As one of the world’s leading enablers of sustainable transportation, ABB is committed to writing the future of the marine industry that will see vessels plying the world’s waters more cleanly and efficiently.”As a FLAGSHIPS member since the project’s start in January 2019, ABB has been working closely with Finnish research organization and project coordinator VTT and the leading global provider of innovative clean energy fuel cell solutions Ballard Power Systems Europe to develop an instal-lation enabling a 400kW fuel cell to power vessel operations. The project objective is to demonstrate that fuel cells are a practical and deliverable propulsion solution for owners and builders of mid-sized vessels carrying more than 100 pas-

sengers or the equivalent freight volumes inland or coastally. For this reason, the scope of FLAGSHIPS also includes assessing the operational impact of the switch to hydrogen as a fuel.Once the fuel cell power plant has been fitted, the plan is to run the vessel daily, with special attention being paid to the refueling procedures needed to meet the operating sched-ule. Trials will therefore also provide insights into developing and optimizing the refueling infrastructure needed for hydro-gen fuel cells in marine operations. With maritime transport estimated to emit around 940 million tons of CO2 annually, there is an increased pressure for the shipping industry to deploy means of reducing harmful pol-lutants. The International Maritime Organization, a United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping, adopted a strategy on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008, with the aim of phasing them out entirely.Fuel cell technology is widely considered as one of the most promising sustainable energy solutions for reducing marine emissions worldwide. Fuel cells turn the chemical energy from hydrogen into electricity through an electrochemical reaction. They convert fuel directly to electricity, heat and clean water. The FLAGSHIPS project is supported by the Fuel Cells and

Anders Lindmark, formerly Head of Alfa Laval PureBallast, has transitioned from ballast water treatment into anoth-er compliance application. As Business Unit President, Gas Systems, he now oversees the Alfa Laval PureSOx offering in exhaust gas cleaning. On 1st May, Anders Lindmark stepped into his new role as Business Unit President, Gas Systems. The move follows years of service in ballast water treatment, comprising a number of key milestones for Alfa Laval PureBallast 3. Besides cementing itself as the leading ballast water treat-

ment solution, the system became a forerunner with U.S. Coast Guard type approval and was first to be certified according to the IMO revised G8 guidelines.Lindmark’s new role is based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, where he will drive the continued development of Alfa Laval’s SOx scrubber offering. Like PureBallast 3, Alfa Laval PureSOx has established itself among today’s foremost compliance solutions.“The PureSOx team is highly skilled, and I’ve followed its accomplishments even during my time with PureBallast,” says Lindmark. “In the 10 years since the first vessel set sail with PureSOx on board, they’ve developed an extraordinary product and service offering, ranging from hybrid systems with the industry’s most effective closed-loop water cleaning technolo-gy to market-leading connectivity in the form of PureSOx Connect. I’m proud to join such a dynamic team and excited to continue moving

PureSOx forward.”Next year will be important for both ballast water treatment and exhaust gas cleaning, with revised G8 require-ments taking effect and fuel changes potentially increasing the demand for scrubbers. As 2020 approaches, Lindmark is pleased to be associated with both offerings.“It’s a privilege to be connected with two leading solutions that address such vital industry challenges,” Lindmark reflects. “In my work with PureBallast and ballast water treat-ment, I’ve appreciated the close dia-logue with customers, industry experts and other stakeholders. I look forward to a similar dialogue when it comes to PureSOx and exhaust gas cleaning.”Lindmark’s successor as Head of Alfa Laval PureBallast will be Peter Sahlén, who has been with the PureBallast team since 2012. For the past five years, Sahlén has served as Head of Research & Development for the PureBallast offering.

Gibraltar’s Gibdock shipyard has com-pleted a major conversion project so that the Baleària ferry Napoles can operate using LNG as fuel. The three-month project - possibly the most com-plex and demanding ever undertaken by the yard - consolidates Gibdock’s position as one of the leading refit facilities for environmentally-driven work in the Mediterranean. The 186m long Napoles, which has capacity for 1,600 passengers and 1,430 lane metres of cargo, is the first of five ships that Baleària plans to con-vert to dual fuel operations to comply with IMO sulphur cap regulations. Gibdock has already secured a con-tract to convert a second vessel, Sicilia, which is due to arrive at the yard later this year.Richard Beards, Managing Director, Gibdock, says: ”Baleària is a long-standing client for scheduled repair and maintenance work, so it made perfect sense to carry out the conver-sion at Gibdock. We are delighted to have been entrusted with this land-mark project, which was a first for us and for Baleària; the experience will ensure that the Sicilia conversion goes

even more smoothly.”Napoles arrived at Gibdock on 15th November 2018, with the yard already having pre-fabricated two LNG bun-ker fuel reception stations for later installation. The majority of subse-quent work took place alongside the yard’s main repair wharf, with some elements of the LNG conversion undertaken in Gibdock’s Panamax size Dock No.1. The project required extensive modifications to Deck 1 to accommodate 200 tonne, 27m x 6m diameter LNG fuel tank from Wärtsilä. Gibdock also cropped Decks 5 through to 2 to create a route through which to lower the 400m3 capacity tank.Another key element of the project was the modification of the MAN 9L 48/60-A main engines, which was undertaken by engineers from MAN

Primeserv. Now designated 9L 51/60 DFF, Gibdock assisted modifications made by the manufacturer with auxilia-ry pipework and steel structures in connection with reassembly, also fit-ting specialised valves, a compressor and generator unit. Extensive automa-tion system and cabling work was also carried out by Gibdock technicians. After its departure, Napoles began working on a new passenger and Spanish freight route connecting Huelva and the Canary Islands.“We already have substantial experi-ence with ballast water treatment and scrubber retrofits, and now we have an LNG dual conversion under our belt,” says Beards. “Our range of solutions for forthcoming IMO regulatory chang-es is comprehensive in suiting any ves-sel type, age and route profile.

The world’s fastest growing digital ship registry has recorded a zero percent-age detention record with the United States Coastguard(USCG) in the latest

Ship Registry(PISR) recorded an impressive overall 0.00% detention record with zero detentions for safety playing a major part in this. In the two year period recorded, just 12 Palau-flagged vessels were examined for safety issues with only three record-ing deficiencies. Panos Kirnidis, CEO of Palau International Ship Registry was delighted with the recent USCG report and believes this is a strong testament to the ongoing development of the registry.“We have a fleet of 400 with increas-ing interest from ship owners across the globe wanting to talk to us about our digital registry services. Over the past three years we have introduced our Deficiency Prevention System (DPS) which is a dedicated service providing support to ensure vessel’s compliance with required international conventions and prevent deficiencies and detentions causing them serious

implications with Port State Control (PSC). From a dedicated department within PISR previous inspections find-ings are monitored along with the location and destination of the Palau flagged vessels with over 93% confi-dence their risk performance and pri-ority for inspection by a PSCO. This has gone a long way to helping us achieve this excellent zero detention figure from the USCG. “PISR is currently the only registry in the Paris MOU with a credible perfor-mance and the only flag without detentions for six consecutive months (since November 10th 2018) and this progress is benefiting our fleet. PSC detentions and inspections can be very damaging to ship owners’ busi-nesses and we have been working very hard from our Piraeus office to develop systems and services that keep our ship owners moving. With 39

Deputy Registrars in 24 countries and 105 flag state inspectors in 43 coun-tries to cover all the technical needs of Palau registered ships, we are deter-mined to ensure Palau flagged ves-sels remain operational and not detained in ports by sometimes sim-ple issues. Achieving a zero detention record with one of the most exhaustive and professional regulatory bodies in the maritime world shows PISR is on the right lines.”

When seafarers were being lost as sea because of leaking wooden hatch covers, MacGregor solved the problem by inventing and manufacturing the industry’s first watertight steel hatch covers; lives were saved and cargo protected. Almost a hundred years on, and whilst the hatch cover issue is essentially remedied, many more challenges remain. Currently none more so than the protracted depressed mar-ket conditions which are affecting shipowners’ commercial activities and very survival in economic terms. These issues require practical solutions, much like the ‘see-it and solve-it’ approach to replacing unsafe wooden hatches that were a clear choice for operators a century ago. In the age of digital advances, are there equally obvious solutions for shipowners and operators to turn to now? MacGregor believes there is, and that similar significant advantages are available today through the value that digitally-enabled capa-bilities can offer. Their use is standard practice in other indus-tries on mission-critical equipment, so why not in the mari-time sector? If there was a generation of operators that could really benefit from the commercial advantages of digitally-enabled equip-ment maintenance and the optimising of cargo space, it is this one. So one might consider why uptake is slow? Often

when we talk about digitalisation, accelerated learning and intelligent solutions, it is part of a wider discussion dominated by theoretical-level or longer-term concepts, such as fully autonomous vessels, so realisable near-term advances sometimes become lost in the dialogue. At MacGregor we are involved in visionary discussions, which are important and relevant. However, focusing on blue-sky thinking and talking about what digitalisation can do in the broadest terms only serves to drive a wedge between shipowners and operators and access to these near-term benefits, particularly in current market conditions.

Creating solutions customers need and understandMacGregor is offering a pragmatic approach. We are ‘doers’ and well known for our engineering capabilities. We listen to customers, design equipment and whole solutions that meet the requirements of a specific ship and its operations. We can also do this in the digital arena, creating a solution that the customer needs, understands and will gain benefit from. MacGregor has chosen to focus on a select few, commer-cially impactful digital solutions to bring to the market. Drifting a little away from visionary stories about where the market

could go, and moving towards the provision of real services that have a tangible operational impact. This gains credibility as our intelligent cargo handling appli-cations translate into valuable, commercially viable solutions.

A population of expertsIn line with an accelerated development approach, we com-pleted our first ‘Google design sprint’ during March. These have a sophisticated methodology, where a maximum of seven people gather in one room to consider a specific problem, in our case a challenge that a customer is facing. The group comprises different MacGregor engineering and software specialists and customers, all working together; so a population of experts. They participate in a disciplined, time-based process over a week from Monday morning until Friday afternoon. The objective is to experiment at speed and with a very high focus on taking the initial idea to a cus-tomer valuable concept and digital mockup. We have simulation software that our engineers use to pre-design and analyse how, for example, an offshore crane works in reality. A Google design sprint includes thinking about how such a digital simulation platform can help to pre-pare for and advise real-time operations, with higher efficien-cy and increased operational windows within its safety mar-gins. We are asking customers to join us because we believe that with more enriched information, especially weather data, cur-rents and wave heights, the simulation platform will be able to deliver much greater prediction and safeguarding accuracy. Our objective is to reach a point where we can confidently advise a customer that a crane could operate for half an hour longer than would have been previously possible, because

more relevant data will help to mitigate against taking a more conservative approach. So, in this sense, we have the underlying technology, but you might call it a rough diamond. Polishing it with enriched data delivers a solution that helps customers earn more money from their ships.

Moving from a conceptual remitOur approach is breaking down traditional barriers, and our experience is that customers are willing to share information that may have previously been considered as commercially sensitive. We are demonstrating our intention to be practical and share our knowledge, moving our digital advances out of a conceptual remit. The idea that companies must disrupt or be disrupted to sur-vive has relevance for us all. If we are not thinking along the lines of a tangible digital agenda, you can be sure that others will be. These companies are smart and agile and we are alert to their capabilities, but what they do not have is our extensive operational knowledge. Our cargo and load handling experience is second to none. A newcomer cannot really develop a valuable application until it fully understands the market and operating environ-ment. MacGregor has a very strong position and we are able to translate our operational and technical knowledge into valuable, new solutions. Having said this, we are also open across all of our digital developments to collaborating with start-up companies, par-ticularly in the areas of geospatial weather analytics, the use of on-board devices to support capacity optimisation and the ability to analyse offshore crane data. These capabilities can provide actionable insights and help accelerate the

development of new services for our customers. We are not promising the world because we know how diffi-cult it is to deliver that, but we are ambitious for our custom-ers and ourselves. We are taking encouraging cases, work-ing closely with customers and learning from each other to deliver commercial value.MacGregor also benefits from being part of the Cargotec family, a company committed to being the leader in intelli-gent cargo and load handling, which provides the financial capability to invest in new technologies and take full advan-tage of the Group’s capabilities.

Four focus areasWhen it comes to digitalisation, MacGregor is focused on helping customers to enhance their operations either through earning more money on the ship, or to build and operate more efficiently and with lower costs. Our digital agenda is concentrated in four specific areas; predict, safeguard, optimise and automate. These are ‘cate-gory’ words referring to the potential value we can create by applying or deploying digital technologies. To explain this further, our ‘predict’ category includes ele-ments such as enhanced maintenance capabilities. Here, for example, we can use our knowledge to develop algorithms that can predict when certain equipment requires mainte-nance, based on use and condition rather than conventional ‘time based’ service schedules. The offshore crane and associated Google design sprint work referred to earlier is a relevant example within the ‘safe-guard’ and ‘optimise’ categories. MacGregor’s proven Cargo Boost service is included within the ‘optimise’ category. Over the past three years, more than 100 containership optimisation upgrades have been com-pleted for highly reputable owners and the benefits demon-strated in service. Applying this knowledge, we have started a development programme to tailor our optimisation algorithms for breakbulk ships focused on increasing capacity utilisation and acceler-

ating the stowage process. The next application will be to help RoRo customers remove discharging process flaws onshore and optimise offloading operations. The fourth category is ‘automate’. Good examples of activi-ties in this area are our autonomous offloading crane tech-nology and automated mooring systems, the latter currently under development, which apply technological advances from a robotics domain.

Scalable solutions, available to manyThe MacGregor digital agenda is valid for one vessel or an entire fleet. The kernel of a solution must be as widely appli-cable as we can make it so that it is scalable and of benefit to the many, not the few. There will always be a degree of customisation required but, by minimising this, we are able to offer cost-efficient solutions to shipowners, operators and shipbuilders today.

New research enables further savings with the Alfa Laval DuroShell heat exchanger for LNGAlfa Laval

Laboratory freeze testing yielded cost-saving insightsDuroShell has been optimized for use as a vaporizer in fuel gas applications. With its 100% stainless steel design, it can reliably handle LNG entry temperatures that approach -170°C or lower. Now Alfa Laval has also performed an extensive lab-oratory freeze testing, gaining knowledge that will lead to lower capital and operational costs.“Extreme low temperatures are not an issue for DuroShell, but a glycol mix with a freezing point of around -50°C has the potential to freeze when it meets plate surfaces as cold as -90°C,” Hult explains. “Solving this problem with a higher gly-col flow is a very expensive solution for our customers, so Alfa Laval has worked with SINTEF Energy Research to find the correlation of flows on both sides and thereby avoid freezing of fluid on the hot side.” Hult concludes that this will let shipbuilders use a more compact plate-and-shell design with smaller pumps and pipes, which, in turn, will mean CAPEX and OPEX savings for the ship owner. High thermal efficiency supported by unbeatable fatigue resistanceDuroShell’s ability to withstand the large temperature differences in fuel gas supply systems stems partly from its special CutWing plates, which feature the patented Alfa Laval RollerCoaster™ plate pattern. The RollerCoaster™ design provides high turbulence that improves heat transfer efficiency and thus significantly reduces the risk of freezing and fouling.Another unique DuroShell feature is the PowerPack™ distribution tubes, which run all the way through the plate pack and secure an optimized flow distribution onto the heat transfer surface. This design further enhances the strength of the plate pack for added fatigue resistance in demanding LNG duties.“From the laser-welded plate pack to RollerCoaster™ and PowerPack™, DuroShell is loaded with features that help us secure far higher resistance to temperature and pressure fatigue than possible with conventional plate-and-shell designs,” adds Hult. “Based on this and our knowl-edge about freezing behaviour, we can confidently state that DuroShell is the market’s best solution for LNG applications today.”

In the midst of increasing compliance demands for emis-sions monitoring and nitrogen oxide(NOx) measurement in industrial applications, companies now have the opportunity to move beyond costly consumables and complex gas sam-ple treatment associated with aging, legacy measurement systems. Emerson’s new Rosemount™ CT4400 Continuous Gas Analyzer is the world’s first purpose-built Quantum Cascade Laser(QCL) and Tunable Diode Laser(TDL) ana-lyzer designed to help plants reduce ownership costs and report emissions accurately in environmental monitoring applications measuring standard components, such as nitric oxide(NO), nitrogen dioxide(NO2), sulfur dioxide(SO2), car-bon monoxide(CO), carbon dioxide(CO2), and oxygen(O2).Optimized for cold and dry applications running at ambient pressure, the Rosemount CT4400 analyzer offers the bene-fits of QCL/TDL technology, including high sensitivity, accu-racy, improved stability, and low-drift performance in a con-figuration that allows fast, easy integration into existing plant infrastructure.“Our customers are looking for a better way to measure emissions without the ongoing high costs or need for fre-quent calibration and complex sample preparation that requires NOx converters or ozone generators,” said Paul Miller, managing director for Rosemount Quantum Cascade laser analyzers, Emerson Automation Solutions. “The Rosemount CT4400 Continuous Gas Analyzer gives them an answer to their exact requirements in a configuration they can just plug into their existing systems and be off and run-ning – at a lower cost than previously possible. The reduced complexity of the system over what most companies are used to results in higher reliability and analyzer availability with a lot less personnel time required.”Because the system can hold up to four laser modules, it can measure up to seven application-specific gas compo-nents simultaneously, providing great flexibility in continuous emissions monitoring systems(CEMS) applications. This

simultaneous, multi-component analysis within a single ana-lyzer reduces the need for multiple analyzers, and thus the cost.At the heart of the Rosemount CT4400 is Emerson’s QCL technology, which detects gas molecules in both the near- and mid-infrared wavelength range. The system employs a patented laser chirp technique that enables detection of indi-vidual gas species, free from the cross-interference effects of other gas components in the stream, making the measure-ment highly accurate and stable down to sub ppm concen-trations. This high performance ensures operators meet increasingly demanding regulatory requirements, while real-time reporting provides critical insight into process perfor-mance.Due to its purpose-built design, which produces enhanced performance at a lower cost, the Rosemount CT4400 Continuous Gas Analyzer ensures reliable detection and monitoring of gases and allows operators to avoid costly reg-ulatory fines or unexpected shutdowns.

Analytics LogixAI module)

작업자는 HMI(Human Machine Interface)나 대시보드에 설정된 알람으로 문제를 확인할 수있다.
