Lord, bless this gathering of fellow Rotarians today. Please
help us to see those in need and give us the strength and
wisdom to serve our community as we should. Help us to lift
the burdens of others while we maintain the dignity of
humankind. Soften our hearts to be sensitive and loving as we
serve together as Rotarians. This we pray in Jesus name,
Amen.
OBJECT OF ROTARY

worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve

EDITORIAL
There will always be a time when a stage comes to an end.
Staying longer in one stage makes us lose the opportunity to
move on to the next stage which may be a lot better that our pre-
sent stage. Whether we choose to see an event as an ending or
a new beginning is really up to us.
The Rotary Club of Sta. Rosa Centro’s induction will be held
today, September 28. Defined, an induction is a formal introduc-
tion to a new job or position. Great President breaths a sigh of
relief and incoming Inspiring President is starting to feel the jit-
ters. But it is both a start and a new beginning to both presi-
dents. IPP Jay may see it as the end of her term but can actually
mean the start of more family time. To IP Michelle, it probably is
a tense start but it is an end to being “simply” a member and be
in control.
We don’t need to stress ourselves when we turn a new leaf in our
lives. We’d all the more be disappointed if our life has gone at a
standstill. We sometimes need to delete photos in our phone or
laptop so we can have room for new memories. We sometimes
need to stop being who we were because the changes may be
who you are now and be surprised that you will fell in love with
an upgraded version of you.
New beginnings

Climb every mountain
A Rotaractor ventures deep into her native Uganda with a polio vac-cination team as part of Rotary’s newest virtual reality film, Two Drops of Patience.
When we first started filming, I was focused on what we were going to shoot. But that changed when I did my first vaccination. I felt like a hero. It was a satisfying feeling, knowing you probably just changed someone’s life. I felt I had done something very meaning-ful. I had prevented somebody from being sick. I had given some-body opportunity. Those two drops felt like a life-changing action.

News & Updates
Every Thursday morning, I receive an email from the World Health Organization with an update on the status of polio eradication. It contains a wealth of information, country by country: where and how
immunization campaigns are being conducted, how many millions of children are being vaccinated, and where environmental surveillance has found evi-dence of circulating virus. But every week, when that email appears in my inbox, my heart seems to stop for just a moment until I read the first few lines – and learn whether a child was paralyzed by wild poliovirus that week. That, my friends, is where we are today in the work of polio eradication. The question on my mind as I open that message isn't how many thousands of cases we might see in a year, as we did not too long ago, or even how many hundreds. Instead, when that WHO email arrives every Thursday, the single, binary question it answers is: Was there a new case this week, or wasn't there? Thirty years ago, 1,000 children were paralyzed by polio every single day. Since then, we've marked our progress, year by year, week by week. We've celebrated as country after country, region after region has been declared polio-free. As we've come closer and closer to our goal, and the number of cases has dropped further and further, the children those numbers reflect have become less and less of an abstraction. When I open that Thursday email, I don't wonder what number I'll see. I wonder, was a child paralyzed this week or not? We are so close to eradication – but there is so much work left to do. This month, I ask every Rotary club to help End Polio Now by marking World Polio Day on 24 October. Last year, thousands of Rotary clubs around the world held events to raise awareness and funds for polio eradication. This year, we want to see more World Polio Day events registered than ever. If you have an event planned, be sure to register and promote it at endpolio.org so that more people can take part. If you haven't planned one yet, it's not too late – visit endpolio.org to find ideas, information on this year's livestream, and resources to help your club organize a successful event. World Polio Day is a tremendous opportunity for clubs to highlight Rotary, and our historic work to eradicate polio, in their own communities. It is also a great way to take advantage of the challenge from the Bill & Melinda Gates Founda-tion: For every dollar that Rotary raises for polio eradication, the Gates Foun-dation will give two more. Join me, and Rotarians everywhere, on 24 October for World Polio Day – and Be the Inspiration for a polio-free world.

bership Chair for three years, from 2014
to 2017.

ate of AB Masscom at the Far Eastern

Our District Governor, Boy as he is fondly
called is from the Rotary Club of Downtown
Batangas City. He joined Rotary in June 1993
and became the Club President in RY 1996-
1997.He has occupied various positions in
the District and has received various awards
for his exemplary performance and for em-
bodying the Rotary’s motto Service Above Self.
During his term as President of their Club, he spearheaded giving Scholarship
Program to those poor but deserving students because he believes that edu-
cation is one solution to poverty. That is why, included in his legacy project as
District Governor is the granting of Scholarship Program in all the clubs of
district of 3820.
This year’s theme “Be the Inspiration” is very well fitting for this man for he is
always inspired and because of this inspiration to serve made him to become
the District Governor. We can also say that dealing with people is of no effort
with him, because of his sense of humor.
Gov. Boy studied Mechanical Engineering at the Batangas State University
and at present occupies a position as Vice President for Business Develop-
ment in a construction company. He is also a Director at the Batangan
Bayview Hotel and Restaurant. Prior to this, he has worked abroad at Rabigh
Refinery in Saudi Arabia and in a local chemical plant .
We can confidently say that behind a successful LEADER is a supportive and
loving family. We can call it a big blessing and this is certainly the case of our
dear Inspiring District Governor.
Gov. Boy’s wife, Glacy Escalona Garcia, is also a member of Rotary Club of
Downtown Batangas City. She is a CPA and is working as a Chief Finance
officer and Administrator of United Coconut Chemicals, Inc. and subsidiary
companies. They have 2 sons, the eldest Zandro Jose is a lawyer and is work-
ing as an Associate at Puyat,Jacinto Santos Law Firm. The youngest, Gabriel
Jose is a graduate of BS Information Technology and works as a Systems Man-
ager at DXC Technology (formerly Hewlett Packard).

Reflections
“Our success or failure will not depend upon the
machinery of Rotary or its physical growth, but
upon the extent to which Rotary’s ideals or
objectives are translated into positive, tangible
results in personal, business, community, and
