5th day: Generous breakfast buffet. Todayyou’re off on an excursion on the Mosel River.The picturesque village of Bernkastel-Kues isan irresistible place for a stroll through itsquaint, narrow alleyways. Afterwards there is aship excursion on the Mosel to Traben-Trar-bach with a passage through the boat locks,followed by a chance to get some lunch andenjoy a little free time. Return drive via theenchanting Hunsrück to Idar-Oberstein. Half-board dinner in the hotel.

6th day: Generous breakfast buffet. the JakobBengel industrial monument, the cradle ofcostume jewellery, opens its gates for youtoday. 2-hour guided tour through the machi-nery line and the production facilities. Specialart deco jewellery is only produced in smallquantities today. Opportunity for lunch inOberstein’s historic Old Quarter. The GermanGemstone Museum awaits you this afternoonfor an informative guided tour of its extensivegemstone exhibition (approximately 10,000exhibits). Half-board dinner at the hotel.

1st day:Arrival in Idar-Oberstein in the early afternoonat the Berghotel Kristall, wonderfully situatedabove the Idar city district.

Reception with a cocktail from Ms. Stauch, the hotel’s director. Enjoy the comfortable and individually furnished atmosphere of therooms, each of which bears the name of a gemstone.

2.00 p.m.: Pick-up by the local tour guide andstart of the city tour with commentary on itshistory, its gemstone industry and its sights.

1st stop is the underground guided tour of theSteinkaulenberg gemstone mines, where youcan see how the gemstones originate andgrow.

2nd stop is the historic Weiherschleife watermill with a multimedia show and a demonstra-tion of the traditional processing techniques.

Return drive to the Berghotel Kristall and timeto freshen up. Let the Berghotel team pamperyou this evening. The kitchen treats you to a3-course dinner menu. After dinner, “Wein-stein” presents a range of regional wines toyou. Wine expert Dietmar Schuch is full of tips and information on fine wines during the2-hour seminar, serving you 8 - 10 samples.Relax and enjoy the end of the evening.

2nd day:Generous breakfast buffet. Take advantage ofthe remaining time before departure for a strollthrough the lively pedestrian zone with itsarray of gemstone shops and boutiques, andexplore the Old Quarter against the backdropof Oberstein Castle and the “Felsenkirche”, a church hewn into the living rock.
