Farewell Mr. Solaiappan

It is a great gift to have a very loyal and

dedicated employee and it is a lost that we must let him go. After 40 years of service, on 2nd July 2015, Bata Indonesia held a farewell for Mr. Solaiappan Mariappan, the Director of Commerce

The event located in Bata Head Office Jakarta, attended by management, Export-NSRD department and related parties. We celebrate it with memoriam of his great journey in Bata and his success achievement and contribution.

On his speech he mention to accept and be ready for any job assignment, he said that” when a job is given to you, it is given to you because they trust you, and they think they will able to do it” always try to do my best and make sure the job done in right way that acceptable.

Within 40 years he’s been working under around different 15 Company Managers/President Directors and every bosses have their own way of working , we have to change how we work to suit the way how the boss want us to work., In his speech he mentioned a very great tips of work life, first is to enjoy, we’ve work hard and it is eliminated most of our time with our family and friends, then remember to enjoy. The second is to do your best and make sure your work output its qualified and acceptable enough. The third is to be adaptive with environment, there’s always be challenges in life, different boss, different situation, lots barrier, handling with peoples and issue, and that’s the challenge we’ve to deal in life no matter where, its important to

deal it with your best effort rather than run away when we obviously will see similar challenge in life no matter what.

Below is a piece of advice he mentioned on that moment.

One day my son came to me and told me that I don’t want to work with this guy anymore,, because it full of politics and the guy is so difficult and I tried to told him “my son, If I have thought like that I will resign 25 times in my life”, its not going to work, every way you go there’s challenges there’s different of way working team, politics are different in every company you work, there’s always politics, its up to us how we want to manage this. If you run away from here you run away from life. Because anywhere you go challenges are there. So this is my simple message, what ever you people do, do it with full dedication and make sure you try your best.. If management trust in us, they pay us to do the job, you must do the best work you can , of course you might can not do triple like somebody else, but you must know. Ok! I’ve done my best ,this what I can do, I can go home I can sleep well peaceful if you have this in your life, I’m very sure you will get progress in your life.

Until we meet again…

Getting Closer with Our

This blue-black square machine is attached before and after our front door in the first and ground floor of our head office in Jakarta, named ANVIST T&A Access Control System. It have two main function, first is for employees absenteeism, and the second is for the access door, to make sure that it will always be one The Bata’s and or under The Bata’s supervision, all people can come in and out from our office.

By this tool, we collect data of our day-to-day attendance. We’re aware that we have about 959 employees both in head office and Purwakarta and using this tools it’s quite a help. Based on it we generate the absenteeism report. Therefore we need to remember to use this tool as it should be.

Like a house, our office is our private area, which is like a home for all the employees who stay here at least from the morning until afternoon, that’s why its also important to make sure the security and convenience not only for several people but for everybody whose using our facilities. Here’s below is a refreshment guidance on how to use it.

Here’s some tips to use it at it best.

1. How it Work? First scan of the day will be taken as the sign in, and the last scan of the will be taken as a sign

home. Not matter how much you scan during the day wont bother the absenteeism, it only count the first and the last.

2. Always remember to scan your finger at the very first thing to do when you arrive in the office.

You might come to early and wanna grab some breakfast and some time it can led you to forget to scan your finger of the day. And you scan it maybe on lunch time or in the middle of the morning, which may caused you recorded as a late.

3. No Join Pass-in! Some time we’re so hurry and sometimes bit lazy to line up then we decide to pass by under

some one else finger. Well that’s will make you like a ghost, presence without prove of existence. Relax it’s will only take maximum 2 minutes most of the time to process and save you from becoming an premature ghost before you pass away.

4. Access Denied! Some employees having issue with this red “access denied” things. Make sure you do the scan

properly. Make sure 1) your finger is clean and dry, the tool detect your finger print not anything that may attached with it (the oils, water, or leftover o.o), 2) placed properly, put your finger straight which you nail faced up), 3) stand in front of it, the tool also can be a good selfie cam, to make sure that is really you coming in, not only your mutilated finger o_0.

Step 1: Make sure the machine in stand by condition

Step 2: Put one of your finger (thumb or forefinger or or middle finger)

Step 4: Wait until green alarm shown up with jingle of “access created”

Step 3: If LED light turn red and say “access denied”, then wait to rescan

Working with Bata Malaysia :

It is an extraordinary experience for me to be given the opportunity to work in a foreign country with different environmental conditions and culture, in Malaysia. 6 months was firstly sound too long in my mine and I doubted that I might couldn’t able to do it. Moreover to be given opportunity to fully control of a district, as a district manager. It is a big responsibility, considering the ‘15 kedai’ (the term of shops in Melayu language) is the district that’s located in tourism area, but in the other hand have a concerning situation as the impact of limited supervising since long time ago from the district manager. The earlier condition when I was starting to work in Malaysia is they have a shortfall of District Managers resources, so the presence of me & Akhtar, another district manager from Pakistan, can fulfil the important potentials district to be improved especially in sales dimension. One week it is the only time provided by Bata Malaysia for me to adapt with the office environment and to understand the work system over there. Based on the more complex work system experience in Indonesia, it makes me felt easier to adapt quickly there. Especially with the facilities given by Bata Malaysia to all district managers that’s really lighten the work load of District Managers including me. Every department is quiet cooperative and there’s no competition or try to make other department look bad. Everybody contributes and made sales as common goal. This also the result of leadership practice from Bata Malaysia Company Manager whose put retail as a combat department and other department taken as supporting which also equally important. Bata Malaysia Local employees works with full of responsibility. They feel like they own the company with high sense of belonging. Once

I’ve heard they said ”We are local is the people whose taking full responsibility of the existence and sustainability of Bata Malaysia, so that we only do good thing and consider carefully the impact of our policy to the continuity of Bata Malaysia. Working as District Manager in Malaysia with Bata Indonesia name attached, is a very heavy onus. Moreover if we cannot contribute appropriately, that will be shameless for Bata Indonesia. My short-time experience in Indonesia make me somehow worried if I make mistake, especially there’s huge expectation from Bata Malaysia Company Manager that gave me more pressure while working there. My concerns to look new place to leave and how to travel out of town as the District Managers, also had been anticipated by Bata Malaysia, they provide apartment, laptop and car as the accommodation and my combat equipment in doing the job. The similarity of the language and also the Indonesian driving license permitted to be used in Malaysia also really helpful in my daily work activity and interaction with shop managers there. The issue of race is quite felt in Malaysia, until to the shop managers, so the team cohesiveness and equalization vision and mission with the team is the first thing I did there, the rest is just a matter of stock and display. Within six months, a lot of things I learned, including the Bata Malaysia way of working which may be applied or not be applied in Bata Indonesia. There are also lots of differences made in Bata Malaysia like on merchandise distribution, ist, com (handing over store manager), inventory check, report, and also on handling aging that very controlled by Bata Malaysia Working abroad is a challenge, but also has a lot of fun factor that we’ll get by working there, friendships with the employees and the shop managers of other countries is also very unique and interesting to keep in mind. No word regret, having worked in Bata Malaysia ... the only word lies is only a thank you for the opportunity to work there.

A Remarkable experience. HR Pages
