Owing to the pandemic, the SPC Council met once last year by Zoom. The main purpose of that
meeting was to discuss proposed changes to the percentage allocations from SUC and USUC to the
overall budget of the SPC. This had been a motion from the SPC 2018 AGM. The percentage
allocations have remained the same or with slight changes for a number of years. This discussion
was necessary in order to finalize the SPC budget for 2019. These discussions were difficult, as
many financial discussions are, especially with the added stress of a pandemic and meeting by
Zoom. The SPC Council decided to enlist the assistance of the regional minister Rev. Kendall
Harrison to facilitate a conversation with the members of the SPC Council to improve its’ function
and the relationships within. It has taken a number of months to receive a report and set up
another meeting. Due to the pandemic and changes in the colour phases for Zone 1, we have not
been able to meet so this work is ongoing.
P a g e |7In response to the pandemic and the requirement to have standard guidelines for in person
worship, the SPC Council was asked to form a Reopening Planning Committee. This committee was
made up of Jane Braedley, Anne Pirie, Jerry Hicks and Jane Robertson. This committee met several
times, considered an abundance of information and set out guidelines for each point of the SPC to
adhere to in reopening and offering in person worship. Due to the unique natures of each point of
the SPC, the operationalizing of these guidelines was left to each Executive Council.
The JNAC document has not yet been loaded to Church Hub. This has taken a back seat to other
concerns of the SPC Council.
A SPC AGM was not held for 2019 due to the pandemic. At recent regional meeting on how to
offer AGMs during COVID we must have one for both 2019 and 2020 by the end of June 2021.
Therefore, we are still within the provisions set out by our regional governing body for calling
AGMs during this unprecedented time.
Respectfully,

Worship and Sanctuary Committee 2020 Annual Report
Committee members: Jane Braedley

Over the past year the Worship and Sanctuary Committee has met on three occasions – two in
person and one by Zoom. These meetings revolved around ideas for worship, the liturgical
seasons, the celebration of communion and requests for pulpit supply. Although the committee’s
work has been limited this last year, they have done what they could to support Lloyd and Jennie
in providing meaningful worship during these challenging and unprecedented times. Jennie and
Lloyd have been creative, resourceful and techno whizzes in their provision of on-line services,
taped services and in person services when able.
Rev. Caroline Rushton teamed up with Lloyd and Jennie until it was deemed safe for congregations
to worship in person. This had the added benefit of each minister providing the other with
vacation coverage. Lloyd and Jennie as well have taped services beforehand so that no pulpit
supply has been necessary.
The Advent and Christmas season had a different look this year with a combination of services
having to be offered on-line and in person. It was capped however by a traditional Christmas eve
service in the USUC sanctuary.
The Worship and Sanctuary Committee is grateful as well for the dedication of Lloyd and Jennie to
weaving prayers, music, reflections together each Sunday that resonates with the weekly
lectionary and message. The committee would like to recognize the additional workload this past
year has placed on them.
Respectfully,

Music at SPC 2020 Annual Report It’s been an interesting but not unrewarding year within our Pastoral Charge! Prior to March, we
welcomed soloist Adele Marsland who helped on occasion to assist Jennie in leading music while
her voice was at its most damaged, particularly at Upper Sackville. The SUC choir continued to
share in weekly anthems and in leading congregational singing with all of their usual flair and style,
including choreography by Margaret Tusz-King and occasionally the inclusion of Harris on guitar!
With the restrictions brought about by the pandemic our weekly music-making has changed quite
a bit. In April we welcomed Ed Knuckles to our online pastoral charge services, and he and Jennie
would sing and lead musical worship together. As well, the SUC, under my leadership and budding
editing skills, created 3 different “virtual anthems” as well as a series of “choir of Jennies” virtual
anthems for Advent.
Throughout the summer and into the fall we welcomed Chris Meaney as our sound technician and
consultant for our online pastoral charge services, who assisted us in becoming (relatively) self-
sufficient with our sound streaming technology, which is now run by Jennie via an iPad at the
piano. We are grateful to Chris for his expertise, enthusiasm, and availability.
Lastly, I want to thank Rev. Lloyd for his dedication to learning and adapting to the various
technological changes and troubleshooting that have made up a large part of his (and my) work
this year. I continue to anticipate that the changes that we have made this year out of necessity
(improved sound equipment, mirror above the piano, livestreaming services) will continue to
provide a new and positive dimension to our worship together moving forward and out of this
pandemic.
I trust that everyone is continuing to “make a joyful noise” from the comfort of their own homes
and look forward to a time when it is once again safe to gather in person in both churches on a
regular basis.
Respectfully submitted by Jennie Del Motte

Circle of Care 2020 Annual Report In January of 2020 a group of interested people in our congregation gathered in the home of Diane
Fullerton to discuss the forming of a Circle of Care group to respond to needs in our church family
for support during health crises or times of grief. Specifically, the group members wanted to assist
by preparing and delivering meals on a temporary basis (either daily or a few times per week) and
possibly also by running errands as needed .
The initial group of committed and compassionate cooks numbered eight people. But, as the year
progressed and needs became known, others in the congregation volunteered to participate in
Circle of Care meal preparation. All told, in 2020, 30 suppers and 30 school lunches were lovingly
prepared and delivered by 16 creative cooks.
These are the numbers we can count, but the true numbers are unquestionably higher because, in
addition to the Circle of Care team, other individuals in our church community have quietly been
preparing meals and dropping them off to those who might benefit from a little extra
encouragement and practical support.
Thank you to all those who gave of their time, ingredients, and cooking skills, those known and
those unknown. To request support from the Circle of Care team or to let us know of an
opportunity to be of help, simply contact the church office.

Methodist Burying Ground Report 2020
Terry McMaster worked very hard at the Methodist Burying Ground on cleanup day this past year.
It is a huge job to clear leaves and broken limbs from this site and the Pastoral Charge would like
to thank Terry for all his hard work in 2020. He did tell me had help from his wife Bernice and we
extend our thanks to her as well.
A tombstone, from this cemetery, that was found in the baby barn at this site of the downtown
cemetery in 2018, has not yet been re-installed . Hopefully this installation will occur in 2021. A
good map indicates were this stone should be in the cemetery.

Notes on 2020 Financial Statements Sackville Pastoral Charge
The many changes that came with 2020 surprisingly did not have a significant impact on either the income or expenses of the Pastoral Charge. Although each congregation was impacted in different ways, only a few small changes in spending patterns are worth noting.
1. Pulpit Supply: The lack of any expense for 2020 in pulpit supply is thanks to the generosity of Rev. Lloyd and Rev. Carolyn Rushton (along with singer Ed Knuckles), who volunteered of their own time to prepare and pre-record summer services.
2. Office Supplies: This line item was significantly under budget for the year, owing mainly to the lack of expense in paper and ink used to print weekly bulletins.
3. Prior Period Adjustment for 2019 rolled into 2020 Earnings: A prior period adjustment of $84.90 from 2019 has been rolled into retained earnings for 2020.
4. Copyright Protection: The increase in what is usually a stable amount is as a result of the purchase of a copyright license for podcasting, an expense which will continue as long as services are streamed/broadcast online.
5. HST Rebate 2019: an HST rebate of $313.21 was accidentally omitted from the 2019 income statement. As this was a transfer of assets used as part of operating funds, this number does not affect either the income statement or balance sheet as presented. The 2020 HST rebate can been seen at the bottom of the current year income statement.
