SPARTA

Sparta was on the Peloponnesus. (south part of

Greece)

In 725b.c. the Spartans conquered the Messen ians,

and enslaved them.

They became known as the Helots, which t hen

revolted overthrew the Spartans

As result the Spartans became militaristic.

WHY THEY FOUGHT

The Spartans fought the Persians for their rights.

Persians were conquering people and land, the Spartans of course didn’t want that.

The Battle of Marathon It began in Ionia on the coast of Anatolia when the

persons conquered the area and the Athenians revolted.

When the Persians were defeated the Athenians sent a runner to Athens from Marathon to deliver a message, he died after he ran the 26 miles

believed in good health

Therefore they would
