INTRODUCTION

Talking Spaces 7 will interrogate the critical issues intersecting the design and use of learning environments. How can we create inclusive environments for learning and community? What can schools do to maximise the use of innovative spaces? How can new schools be delivered to cater to growing populations? What formal and informal ‘evaluative knowledge’ can be brought to bear on these issues?

Through a mix of shared and concurrent sessions, Talking Spaces 7 invites participants to engage in cross-disciplinary conversations about the changing face of learning, learning environments, and the urban fabric of our cities.

Now in its seventh edition, Talking Spaces has traversed a range of important issues related to the relationships between ‘teaching and learning practice and space’. Since the first event was held in 2009, Talking Spaces has tracked the development of innovative learning environments and contemporary pedagogies across Australasia. Along the way, this unique conference has brought together academic research with industry know-how to disseminate new knowledge, focus attention on emerging issues, and seed further research initiatives. Enjoyed by school leaders, architects, teachers, government personnel, school system administrations and many others, Talking Spaces has played an important role in bringing together those passionate about creating better learning environments for both teachers and learners.

A brief chronological history of the Talking Spaces events is outlined below:
