Mystic Tan Unveils New Additives

Mystic Tan has introduced three skincare treatments, each targeting a specific need that can be used in conjunction with—or independently of—a Mystic Tan tanning session, added two new fragrances to its MysticAroma additive line and now provides another pre-tan enhancer additive, HyperAdditive.

The skincare treatments and additives allow salon owners to capture three types of clientele with one MyMyst booth: UV-tanners, UV-free tanners and spa-goers.

The revolutionary MyMyst System design provides customized individual skincare treatments via personal cartridges and an airbrush-like application. The AHA RefiningMyst™ Complex is an alpha-hydroxy formulation that uses natural fruit acids to exfoliate the skin gently and naturally. This creates the perfect skin condition for a subsequent UV or UV-free tan, or can serve as a stand-alone skincare regimen normally only found at day spas.

Intended for the UV tanner, the ReplenishingMyst™ Complex is an antioxidant- and vitamin-enriched formula featuring ingredients such as Aloe vera, green tea and vitamin E to help soothe skin and replenish moisture lost during the UV-tanning process. The complex is designed for use prior to tanning indoors.

The RevitalizingMyst™ Complex provides many skin benefits, and includes anti-aging, antioxidant and vitamin-enriched ingredients. Mystic Treatments: Our Review from Lookingfit.com Blog Jan.30. 2008

This past week, two friends and I had the chance to try the new Mystic Tan treatments that I blogged about a month ago. Here’s what we thought …

Treatment 1: UV Tanning + RevitalizingMyst™ For this treatment, I did a session in a UV tanning unit, followed by the RevitalizingMyst to rehydrate my skin. I had used the Mystic Tan booth once before for a sunless tan, so I sort of knew what to expect. You get in, press the start button and a voice instructs you on where to stand and when to turn. The whole process only took a few minutes and was super-refreshing after my hot tanning session … the cool mist felt especially nice on my skin, because I had used a tingle lotion while tanning. After the treatment, my skin felt soft and moisturized.

Treatment 2: RefiningMyst™ + UV Tanning My friend Debrah tried this combination, but was a bit hesitant at the “exfoliation-in-a-bottle” description of the RefiningMyst. I believe her exact words were, “Um, so is this going to be like having a chemical peel sprayed all over my body?” Michelle Tilton, owner of Chandler, Ariz.-based Planet Beach (where we tested out these treatments) was quick to assure Debrah that it was nothing like that. After the full treatment and tanning session, Debrah said the experience was great, though the mist was a little chilly at first. The next day, she told me that she had fabulous tan results—much more color than she generally saw after one tan. In addition, though she tried a higher-powered booth than usual and stayed in a bit longer, her “sensitive areas” didn’t burn.

Treatment 3: RevitalizingMyst™ + Sunless Mystic Tan My friend Stacy—of the blonde-haired, blue-eyed, fair-skinned persuasion—decided to try this combo, as she tans very slowly and burns easily. Like Debrah, she was a bit apprehensive … but more because she was afraid she’d come out looking orange-y. She did not … in fact, the next day, her sunless tan looked great. It was a light bronze, but immediately noticeable on her fair complexion, and she said her skin felt great—with the exception of a little over-spray mishap on her hands and feet. Word to the wise: Be sure to use the provided solution to thoroughly wife off your hands, feet, knees and elbows after sunless tanning. You can’t see the solution, and color tends to distribute heavily in those areas—you don’t want to wake up the next day with stained body parts.
