SP Archive is a solution to the problem with SharePoint list limits, and you can also use SP Archive to create backup copies.

With SP Archive you can archive exactly the items and columns you wish. They are archived to a database, and you can select to either keep them in SharePoint too or remove them from the list automatically. SP Archive supports SharePoint 2010 and above (including Office 365 SharePoint Online) + all versions of Microsoft Access and SQL Server.
