Second only to the NRHA Sire and Dam auction, the SWRHA Stallion Auc- tion features an incredible 106 breeding opportunities! Maybe the incredible growth and success of the Auction has to do with its benefits: First, it supports the reiners of the Southwest area by creating added money for the Annual SWRHA Fu- turity. Because of the funds generated by the auction the event has become one of the top five futurities for the National Reining Horse Association and this year the 31st annual event will take place October 20-25. The auction also rewards the stallion owners who support the auction each year by awarding a golf cart to the sire of the top Open and Non Pro winners or highest advancing horse by a participating stallion whose breeding sold in the auction. It also awards a golf cart to the winner of a drawing from those par- ticipating stallions. Finally people who purchase a breeding are rewarded, too. Resulting foals are eligible for FREE entry into the Level 4 Open or Non Pro Futurity in their 3-year- old year. Current SWRHA President Kathy McCutcheon of Whitesboro, Texas became the Stallion Auction Committee Chair in 2013 and has done a great job of picking up the reins for the program, assisted by her daughter Lindsey. She noted, “Every year I am amazed at the generosity of our stallion owners. Once again we are able to offer a premier selection of our industry’s best. There is a reining, cutting or cow horse sire for every mare owners dream.” The Southwest Reining Horse Association is one of the industry’s largest and most successful affiliate organizations, and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2014. The primary mission of the SWRHA is to promote the breeding, training, and exhibition of the reining horse and its keynote event each year is the annual futurity. Often tagged “Where the Best Go First,” the SWRHA Futurity is a must-attend event for reiners. For most, it is the final stop before the National Rein- ing Horse Asso- ciation Futurity in Oklahoma City. For information on the SWRHA – and to start bidding - visit swrha.com.

Working for the Benefit of the IndustryAuction Ends 8 PM February 15

When the Southwest Reining Horse Associa-tion Stallion Auction was conceived in 2006 by former SWRHA President and longtime reining owner, rider and breeder Jack Coving-ton, no one could have predicted that it would become of the largest and most successful stallion auctions in the reining industry. Second only to the NRHA Sire and Dam auction, the SWRHA Stallion Auc-tion features an incredible 106 breeding opportunities!

Maybe the incredible growth and success of the Auction has to do with its benefits:

• First, it supports the reiners of the Southwest area by creating added money for the Annual SWRHA Fu-turity. Because of the funds generated by the auction the event has become one of the top five futurities for the National Reining Horse Association and this year the 31st annual event will take place October 20-25.

• The auction also rewards the stallion owners who support the auction each year by awarding a golf cart to the sire of the top Open and Non Pro winners or highest advancing horse by a participating stallion whose breeding sold in the auction. It also awards a golf cart to the winner of a drawing from those par-ticipating stallions.

• Finally people who purchase a breeding are rewarded, too. Resulting foals are eligible for FREE entry into the Level 4 Open or Non Pro Futurity in their 3-year-old year. Owners simply notify the SWRHA Office and fill out the form HERE and send copy of registra-tion papers to receive their eligibility certificate.

Current SWRHA President Kathy McCutcheon of Whitesboro, Texas became the Stallion Auction Committee

Chair in 2013 and has done a great job of picking up the reins for the program, assisted by her daughter Lindsey.

She noted, “Every year I am amazed at the generosity of our stallion owners. Once again we are able to offer a premier selection of our industry’s best. There is a reining, cutting or cow horse sire for every mare owners dream.”

NRBC JUDGES ANNOUNCED!The National Reining Breeders Classic has announced the

judging lineup for its 2015 show, scheduled for April 13-19 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, TX.

Donnie Bricker, Corey Hendrickson, Andi Paul, Butch Carse and Ed Bricker will judge the Classic Preliminaries. Also officiating at the massive event will Steve Ross, Char-lie Smith, J.D. Roberson, Dave Belson, Reid Fadcy and B.J. Ribeiro.

The NRBC has made judge selection a matter for the exhibitors to decide in past years. Each fall, a questionnaire is sent to former exhibitors and they are asked for their selection of judges. Judges are hired for the event based on the cumulative preference.

That tradition continues at the show, itself, where quali-fiers choose the judges for the big-money Classic finals. NRBC Secretary-Treasurer Cheryl Magoteaux Cody explained, “During the draw party, each finalist is given a ballot to choose the finals judges. Judges are selected based on the preference of the finals qualifiers.”

The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most suc-cessful stallion incentive program in reining history. The 2015 event will be the eighteenth annual show, and the NRBC payout has grown to exceed over a million dollars yearly!. For information on the NRBC, visit the web site at www.nrbc.com or call 580-759-3939.

TIME TO GET THOSE NRBC ENTRIES IN!Mark your calendars for February 13! That’s the first entry deadline for the NRBC Classic. Be sure to have your entries

to the NRBC Office by that date. For entry forms, click here.

dustry, but also to pursue a higher education. I am tremen-dously proud of all our RHSF Scholarship recipients” said Frank Costantini, President of the RHSF.

Scholarship recipients will be determined based on academic achievement, future goals, involvement in the NRHyA and NRHA, and financial need. Eligible applicants must be a current member in good standing and have been a NRHA mem-ber for at least two years. Previous recipients of the RHSF scholarships are eligible to reapply for scholarships until they are 25 years old. Each year the RHSF awards nearly $50,000 in scholarships to NRHyA members. In 2015, the RHSF will select 7 deserving youth members to share in

more than $10,500 in scholarships through its academic and need based scholarship program.

JORDAN LARSON BECOMES NRHA $2 MILLION RIDER

Jordan Larson, Whitesboro, Texas, just became National Reining Horse Association’s newest Two Million Dollar Rider. This milestone caps off Larson’s 2014 achievements. Not only was the NRHA Professional the 2014 NRHA Futurity’s Level 4 Open Co-Champion riding HDC Quarter Horses’ ARC Gunnabeabigstar and banking $139,916, but he was also the 2014 NRHA Top 20 Professionals’ highest money earner with $387,545, adding to his already robust earnings. His Futurity experience was made even more poignant when his wife, Taylor, won the 2014 Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity Levels 2 and 3 on Larson Performance Horses’ Wimpys Dolled Up. Larson was also a member of Team USA, competing at the 2014 FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games (WEG) and earning a Gold Medal in the team competition.

Jordan’s other career highlights include 2001 NRHA Open World Champion riding Amber N Oak for owner Lisa Maberry, 2010 NRHA Futurity Level 4 Open Champion riding Michell Anne Kimball’s Spooks Gotta Whiz, 2011 AQHA Senior Reining World Champion aboard Custom Harley owned by Rancho El Fortin, 2013 NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Champion riding HF Mobster for Heritage Farms, 2013 AQHA Junior Reining and Senior Reining World Championships partnered with Stoney Russell’s

High Roller Whiz and Luga, LLC’s Custom Cash Ad-vance, respectively.

Larson earned Million Dollar Rider status in 2011. Now, he joins the elite Two Million Dollar Rider club, which includes Tim McQuay, Shawn Flarida, Craig Schmersal, Andrea Fappani, Duane Latimer and Mandy McCutcheon.

A complete list of million dollar earners can be found at nrha.com. Incorporated in 1966, the National Reining Horse Association is the standard-setting body for the sport of Reining.
