From the Pastor’s Pen

Being a Christian is more than a lifestyle of “my God, my Bible, and myself.” A significant part of our faith journey involves engaging others as we learn and grow. Sunday school helps us to make the Bible relevant to our lives through shared experiences. Through the connections we make in sharing, we are able to affirm each another and know that we are not alone.

Sunday school is a powerful and effective way for us to make the connections we need with fellow believers. In fact, the model of mutual sharing is rooted in God’s Word.  Genesis 2:18 states: "It is not good for man to be alone." This passage speaks to our fundamental need to form relationships with others in the human community.

When Jesus' ministry began, he called 12 disciples to be his primary relational and ministry community. Jesus could have ministered without them, but chose instead to love them, teach them, and pour himself into relationships with them.

The apostles continued Jesus' model and formed a community of believers who loved God and loved one another. Despite incredible persecution and against all odds, this motley crew formed small faith communions that shared the gospel and changed the world.

God calls us to love, not in an abstract or superficial way, but in a deep, face to face, life-on-life, transformative way—which is difficult and inevitably messy.

As it was with the Early Church, making faith connections through small group engagement is a way of life for believers, encompassing every area of our lives. Relationships are critical to our pursuit of Jesus, our growth in Christ, and our witness to the Good News. Relational structures like small group Bible study are an integral part of being the church and not simply doing church.

There are many ways and approaches to studying God’s Word. Praise God that St. Stephen has a variety of options for study to guide you according to the current and relevant paths of your life.

Let us pray together that the Holy Spirit will guide you to make powerful spiritual connections through sharing and fellowship as you learn.

In Christ,

Pastor CosbySenior Pastor

A Challenge from the Director

“Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.” Acts 5:42

Christianity was never intended to be a solo ride. It finds its most fulfilling and wonderful expression when people live, act and work in community – as friends, as brothers and as sisters.

Sunday School serves as an extremely important link in your spiritual growth journey. These classes form a family-like center of support and encouragement. There you are able to learn God’s truths and put them into practice. • You will develop life-long, deep relationships and find a place to serve others in Christ. • You will be able to lead others to become disciples. • You will find the chance to share the Gospel on a regular basis through mission projects and

outreach.

We challenge you to make worship and Sunday School a regular part of your week. We encourage you to find the right class for you to plant your life and grow.

Take the challenge and join a Sunday school class today!! Questions? You can reach me at 583-6798, ext. 6657 or email me at [email protected] . Or talk with your campus superintendent.

Worship and Sunday School are a great starting point for you as you become a Christ-centered disciple.

May God bless this great adventure!
