DAY 3 - Monday, August 20, 2018 | CAPE TOWN
The day begins with a cable car ride up to the summit of the legendary Table Mountain, where you can enjoy breathtaking views
of the city. After descending the mountain, drive past the Castle of Good Hope, the country’s oldest building, and a short distance
away, the Company Gardens, both historically fascinating and well-conserved. Nearby landmarks include the Slave Lodge, Houses
of Parliament and City Hall, where Nelson Mandela made his first public speech after his release from prison in 1990. Marvel at
the vibrant colors of the quaint Bo-Kaap homes in the Malay Quarter. Round off the morning with lunch at one of the city's
popular restaurants (under own account). Make your way back to the hotel.
This afternoon, make your way to The V&A Waterfront in time to board the ferry to Robben Island, home of Nelson Mandela for
so many years. Formerly a political prison and a leper colony, Robben Island is a national monument and a World Heritage Site.
Get familiar with the conditions of incarceration – view Nelson Mandela’s maximum security prison cell (Cell 5) and see the lime
quarries. This well-preserved historic landmark pays tribute to the triumph of freedom, dignity and determination over
humiliation and oppression
Robben Island Ferry: Robben Island is
now a World Heritage Site with stunning
views across the bay with Table Mountain
as its backdrop. For nearly 400 years
Robben Island, 7½miles/12kms off the coast
from Cape Town was a place of banishment,
exile, isolation and imprisonment. It is a
highly charged and emotional moment
when you visit the site of this suffering, and
realize how far South Africa has come from
those days.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY:
Then tonight you will be transferred to a unique dinner experience. Gold Restaurant at the Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town
opened recently. Dinner is served outside under a huge awning structure, which can be drawn on all sides should the weather
become inclement. Guests should bring something warm to wear around their shoulders, although Gold Restaurant do provide
brightly coloured Kikois to keep you warm lest you should forget a wrap. There is a set menu which consists of 16 different dishes
from throughout Africa.
The staff brings the food to your table in African bowls and the dishes and their origins are explained. During the meal you are
entertained by beautifully attired singers and dancers as well as interactive drumming. Their costumes were painstakingly
researched and designed to reflect the different cultures throughout Africa. Be prepared for a vibrant evening of color, music,
food, song and dance; the perfect venue if you want to experience something that is uniquely African!
Accommodation: Commodore Hotel (B,D)
DAY 4—Tuesday, August 21, 2018 | CAPE TOWN
After breakfast depart on your full-day Cape Peninsula Tour.
The Fairest Cape…and it surely is! You’ll soon see for yourself where and why it earned its name. Sit back and relax, while taking a
drive along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as
Millionaire’s Paradise – from Camps Bay and Clifton to the
exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno – towards the charming
working harbour of Hout Bay; if you so choose, you can embark
on an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise.
Back on terra firma, the tour winds its way along the legendary
Chapman’s Peak Drive, hugging the cliffs and relishing the
breathtaking ocean views, before arriving at our lunch spot of
choice.
Next it is off to the wild and beautiful Cape of Good Hope
Nature Reserve, an integral part of the world-renowned Cape
Floral Kingdom, where you are able to ride the Funicular to the
scenic viewing point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans
meet. We meander back along the coast towards the City, visiting the historic naval port of Simon’s Town and the endearing
penguin colony at Boulder’s Beach. The Fairest Cape of All which was Sir Francis Drake’s opinion….and we’re sure you’ll echo it!
