KICKOFFKICKOFFKICKOFF 03CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME

Chairman’s Report

We welcome Central Coast Mariners to Wollongong for this historic game in the inaugural FFA Cup.

Since the club qualified for the FFA Cup through our streak in the Waratah Cup, we’ve dreamt of drawing and hosting an A-League team. The draw pitted us against the Mariners who we are extremely excited to host and play today. They bode some exceptional young talents and have shown that regional teams can make an impact in the national competition. We hope someday to have representation down here some day in the A-League.

The football community has shown great interest in this competition and game and I hope the locals come out in droves to support the Cup and their local team. Speaking of locals, we are delighted to boast a predominantly local based side and I am sure they will fight to the end in giving the Mariners a tough game tonight. It is also pleasing to see so many of our younger boys being recognised with A-League trials and this is another opportunity for the boys to show just what they can do. The Wolves have not been about any one player, we have a fit, mobile side with a wonderful blend of youth and experience.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank CDN (Central Data Networks) for their match day sponsorship and support through the year. Robert Zanier and his team have been great supporters of this club and we wish his business every success. Thank you also to Tory Lavalle and John White from MCR (Multi Civil and Rail) for their continued support throughout the year.

Today, is a great opportunity for the Wolves to be put back on the national football map and I thank everyone who has come out today to support this event.

Enjoy the game and go you Wolves.

Bobby Mazevski, Chairman

For this initial time, South Coast Wolves welcome the Central Coast Mariners for this inaugural clash in the Round Of 32 of the FFA Cup at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.

The Mariners have been a consistently performed team in the A-League since the competition’s inception for the 2005/06 season. The club has made the Grand Final on four occasions with a number of heartbreaking results before finally being Champions in 2012/13 when the team from Gosford defeated the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-0 to finally relinquish the bridesmaid title and win a fully deserved championship. However, the club tasted success being two time Premiers in 2007/08 and 2011/12 and runners up twice also, in 2010/11 and 2012/13.

The club made the first A-League Grand Final in 2006 but was beaten by Sydney F.C. and a Steve Corica goal. Two years down the track and the Mariners made the Grand Final versus Newcastle Jets after winning the Premiership. Alas in the Grand Final Tony Vidmar tripped on the ball, allowing Mark Bridge the opportunity to score and win the game for Newcastle. In 2011, the Mariners in the Grand Final were two goals up with five minutes to go against Brisbane Roar. The Roar equalized with just minutes on the clock. The game went into extra time before penalties, which resulted in a 2-4 loss, sealing, unfortunately for the Mariners, a Roar, win.

On that auspicious 2013 Grand Final day, the winning team comprised of Matt Ryan, Joshua Rose, Pedj Bojic, Trent Sainsbury, Patrick Zwaanswiljk, John Hutchinson, Oliver Bozanic, Bernie Ibini-Isei, Daniel McBreen, Michael McGlinchey and Mile Sterjovski, with substitutes Justin Pasfield, Zac Anderson, Anthony Caceres, Nick Fitzgerald and Mitchell Duke. Zwaanswiljk and McBreen scored goals in the 44th and 68th minutes with the coach being Graham Arnold.

The Golden Boot winners including finals have been Stewart Petrie and Dean Heffernan (8 apiece in 2005/06), Adam Kwasnik, (7 in 2006/07), Sasho Petrovski, (8 in 2007/08) Matt Simon, (11 and 7 in 2008/09 and 2010/11 respectively), Adam Kwasnik and Matt Simon (11 in 2010/11) Bernie Ibini, Matt Simon and Patrick Zwaanswilk (7 in 2011/12) McBreen (19 in 2012/13) Bernie Ibini (6 in 2013/14).

Recently, three Mariners players represented in the FFA All Stars match against Italy’s Juventus, these players being Joshua Rose, Nick Montgomery and Storm Roux.

The Mariners biggest win was 7-2 versus Sydney F.C. in 2012/2013 season at Bluetongue Stadium and the worst loss was 5-1 against Brisbane Roar.

Since the A-League began Central Coast has played 242 matches (including finals), winning 104, drawing 64 and sustaining 73 defeats, scoring 344 goals with 276 being conceded.

The Mariners have indeed played in Wollongong previously, playing a friendly match against IPL side Dandaloo at Crehan Park on the 11th September 2011.

There have been a number of former players from Wollongong and environs who, having played either or both junior and senior football in the region, have gone at some point in their careers to be signed by the Mariners. These players include Pedj Bojic, Justin Pasfield, Mile Sterjovski, Noel Spencer (Mariners first captain), Dean Heffernan, Alvin Ceccoli and Sasho Petrovski. Josh Bigham is the latest and has been recently signed for the Youth team.

Spencer played for the Mariners from 2005 to 2007 and played a total of 41 games. He scored the only goal in the Mariners first A League game against Perth Glory on the 26th August, 2005 in the 66th minute. A powerfully hit shot from 30 metres flew in the goal. He went on to score another five that first season, including a brace versus Melbourne Victory in Round 20. He was on the park for every game in that first season. One particular Spencer

goal of a freakish nature was the winner against Sydney FC in 2005/06 Round 4. He produced a low free kick that hit Sydney FC’s Ceccoli who had fallen as he moved out of the defensive wall. The ball spun upwards and with a high loop went over the goalkeeper’s head in the net. This was the winner in the 3-2 victory and it eventuated in the 90+3 minute.

It has not always been one-way traffic, however. One Mariner player went in the opposite direction to the ones listed above. Scotsman Stewart Petrie played three seasons for the Mariners scoring 10 goals in 41 games from 2005-2007. His first goal for the Mariners came in the Newcastle Jets game in Round 2 of that first year. In 2007 he played a number of games for the Wolves - four league games and three cup games. He scored two goals in total, in cup games with the first one coming against Fraser Park in Round 4. His second was important, as it was in the Cup Semi final versus Dandaloo Lions at Seymour Shaw Park in Miranda. Steve Hayes had produced a stinging shot that ‘keeper Scott Whalan kept it out but the ball rebounded to Petrie to he ram home. At his last game he stated in my post match interview that ‘I have enjoyed my time here and hope that the boys can keep it going.’

The South Coast Wolves, at the time of writing and having the final round to complete, hold down 7th position on the NSW Premier League Mens 1 competition table. During this season, the biggest result was 6-1 versus Manly United in Round 8, with the worst 0-5, coming in Round 1. The team has won 6 games and drawn 6 and has scored 27 goals, with the top scorers being Ricky Zucco and Jordan Murray with 5 goals apiece. A number of players have scored two or more goals in a single league match and they include Chris Price (hat trick), Peter Simonoski (brace), Jordan Murray (brace) and Matthew Bailey (brace).

The qualification for the FFA Cup was through the NSW Waratah Cup. Along this route the Wolves, who began in Round 4, defeated Hurstville 6-0 (Ricky Zucco 4, Joseph Lavalle and Matthew Bailey) and in Round 5 won against Sutherland Sharks 1-1 (after 90 mins and a.e.t) and 4-3 on penalties (Matthew Bailey). The following Round 6 match was the qualifying game for the FFA Cup and Parramatta F.C. was the opponent. South Coast emerged victors following a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes and a final score 5-3 in extra time. Scorers were Zucco (2 goals) Murray (2 goals) plus an own goal.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the South Coast Wolves to test their mettle against an A-League opponent with hopefully a large crowd in attendance. The Central Coast Mariners will most probably start favourites to venture forward in the Cup from this match. However, in cup games, fairytales can happen and to date, upsets have eventuated. Which ever way the final result goes, we are all in for a treat.

The South Coast Wolves, having drawn the Central Coast Mariners in the Round of 32 in the inaugural FFA Cup, will be the second time that the home team has played against an A-League team. That being written, however, the Mariners match is the initial game in competition.

Current players who have assisted their team on the way to this groundbreaking fixture had the following to say about the up coming game.

Matthew Bailey (Captain)– ‘the team has been working hard and will be well prepared for this game. We are confident that our performance will test the higher level opposition and it is a great opportunity for the younger players within the squad who have performed so well of late and have been trialling with A League clubs to match up against full-time players in a competitive game. Our strong win over Marconi provides the confidence needed heading into this match and we will be looking to carry that into our final game and in the FFA Cup. The FFA Cup is a great concept and the squad is looking forward to the occasion with the hope of a big crowd in attendance. It is another opportunity for the Illawarra to witness top-level action in what has been a great football month for the region. (The FFA All Stars) The players have been out in the community and visiting junior clubs to promote the game and engage junior players.’

Zac Mackenzie –‘everyone is looking forward to it. It is a great competition- you get to see where you are at technically and things like that.’

Chris Price - ‘it is a great concept and everyone wants to play. All you can do is go out there and perform your best.’

Daniel Collison - ‘It is extremely exciting to be involved in the first ever FFA Cup against such high quality opposition. It will be a huge test and the biggest game in most of our careers so far. We are hoping for a bumper crowd and hopefully we can perform and possibly even spring a surprise against the Mariners. This is a huge game for the region. Good crowds for this game along with the recent success of the A-League All Stars visit and hopefully Wollongong can push harder for an A League side. Also a few of our younger boys have been trialling with A League clubs so it will be a good opportunity for them to show what they can do on the big stage. Over all, a very exciting time for football in this country and in the region and I’m thoroughly looking forward to the experience.’

It is also perhaps pertinent to look back at the first match up between an A-League team and the Wolves.

It was the 14th March 2007 that the Wolves ventured to the suburb of Balgownie to take on Sydney F.C. in a friendly. The Sky Blues needed match practice before the club was to take on teams in the Asian Champions League. Judy Masters Oval was the venue with a large crowd in attendance with standing room only. The Wolves had a number of players out with niggling injuries with Dean Kerr, Steve Hayes, Michael Hawrysiuk, and Nathan Denham all missing out. A number of triallists also played with Sydney who brought most of their first team.

Coached by John Turner, the Wolves squad was Zlatko Josevski in goal together with Matt Hunter, Wayne Heath, Michael West, Dustin Wells, Chimoabi Nwaogazi, Ivan Vojdovic, Danial Cummins, Ballamodou Conde, Osagie Ederaro, Ben Blake, Josh Swinton, Brett Farnsworth, Karouna Michael, Jacob Miller, Dale Blundell and Matt Harvey.

The Branko Culina coached Sydney F.C. squad was Clint Bolton, Iain Fyfe, Mark Rudman, Steve Corsica, David Zdrilic, David Carney, Alex Brosque, Robbie Middleby, Terry McFlynn, Nick Tssatalios, Noel Spencer, Ufuk Talay, Luka Glavas, Michael Enfield, Dean Bouzanis and Alfredo Estevez.

Sydney F.C. employed speed and quick touches in their passing movements with Zdrilic opening the scoring. Brosque and Carney together with Middleby were launching attacks and their tempo on the ball caused some problems for the Wolves defence.

The home team equalized with a splendid goal by Conde. Ederaro, who was no slouch himself, won the ball near the goal line. Sydney’s defence could not scramble the ball away. Ederaro managed to pass to Conde, who on receipt hooked the ball on a half turn evading Boltons’ hands.

On later attack, Carney burst through only for the rapidly advancing goalkeeper Josevski who rushed out to deny Sydney a second goal.

The three Africans in the Wolves team kept Sydney honest and gave them a good work out. Ederaro and Nwaogazi were the upfront pairing and they continually tried to outwit the Sydney defence. From midfield, Conde harassed and attacked the opposition with his sublime skill.

At half time honours were shared.

American Mike Enfield came on as substitute to show a clean pair of heals through the middle with a long run, evading all and sundry to score his team’s second goal. Before any one could draw too much breath, Sydney scored their third through Luka Glavas as Cummins valiantly tried to shut him down. With Sydney in the ascendancy, the Wolves pegged one back through substitute Josh Swinton. However, it was too little too late and Sydney ran out the winners 3-2. For Sydney, Corica and Rudan were impressive as was Vojdovic for the Wolves, who was able to hold the ball up well under pressure to release supports.

The Wolves displayed in this match that they could hold their own against the professionals and all supporters will hope that seven years on from this first encounter, the current team will do likewise and be competitive against the Central Coast Mariners in 2014. Lets hope for a full attendance at WIN Stadium to witness the Wolves strutting their stuff on the big stage.

ROAD TO FFA CUP

The qualification for the FFA Cup match versus Central Coast Mariners was through the Waratah Cup, a competition run by Football NSW. The Mens 1 Premier League clubs joined the competition in Round 4. On the road to the Round of 32, the Wolves encountered Hurstville Zagreb F.C. from State League 2, fellow Premier League club, Sutherland Sharks and Parramatta F.C. from Premier League Mens 2 with a number of speed bumps being encountered along the way.The Wolves’ first opponent in the Waratah Cup was Hurstville Zagreb F.C. with the venue being Hooka Creek Park, Berkeley on 23rd April. With Wolves caretaker coach and U20s coach Jason Spencer in charge, the red and whites staved off an early attempt from the visitors, but there were only five minutes on the clock when the home team drew first blood. Striker Ricky Zucco converted a free kick in the fifth minute, powering home a low shot into the goal from just outside the penalty area. Three minutes later, Zucco struck again. He robbed the ball off an opponent, took one step and fired in another low shot to beat the ‘keeper. His hat trick came up in the 26th minute following a good combination with Peter Simonoski and Chris Nathaniel. At the break, the Wolves were in the box seat. Joseph Lavalle scored his team’s fourth goal, heading home a Matthew Bailey curling corner kick. Bailey subsequently scored his first goal of the season, latching on to a Simonoski’s square ball. With four minutes remaining, Zucco produced his fourth goal, curling a free kick home. Spencer said post match ‘Even though they were a lower division team, we still had to do the job.’ Chris Price, captain for the match stated –‘It was good tonight and it was good to get the combinations going. It was an important game and we had to be positive.’ The Round 5 match up with Sutherland was a more even affair and was again also played at Hooka Creek Park. After the regulation 90 minutes were up, the score remained at 0-0. With both teams having good scoring opportunities, no one could step up and break the deadlock. However, the first goal finally eventuated after 109 minutes but it was the Sharks who went ahead. With time running out, the Nahuel Arrarte coached Wolves received a penalty kick decision after Darcy Madden was brought down. Bailey took the spot kick on 120 minutes to convert, and with little time to spare the Wolves had got out of gaol. A penalty shoot ensued with the Wolves clawing back to be victorious, scoring 4 penalties to 3. Ben Zucco, Michael Robinson, James Baldacchino and Hiroaki Kawasaki converted with goalkeeper Tom Hamilton saving two Sutherland attempts with great saves. Madden added post match- ‘I got a favourable decision and I haven’t played central defender since the Under 13’s.The Round 6 match was the qualification game for the FFA Cup with Parramatta F.C. being the opponents. The match venue was Melita Stadium, and against the odds, the Mens 2 team pegged back the lead on two occasions to ultimately send the game into extra time. The Wolves’ Jordan Murray scored the initial goal after 10 minutes. On receiving a pass from a good build up, Murray controlled the ball to then dispatch it past the goalkeeper. Parramatta equalized and the Wolves knew they were in for a game and Parramatta was not going to lie down. An own goal put South Coast ahead once more before the away team again conceded, practically on full time, for Parramatta to keep their cup dreams alive again. This Parramatta goal was the final kick of the game. The Wolves were oh so close! However, Parramatta’s joy and the Wolves disappointment was short lived as Murray scored his second from a Bailey cross. Ricky Zucco then added two more to give his team a three goal buffer, the second was a spectacular bicycle kick, with Zucco connecting with a Bailey cross. With the final score being 5-3 to South Coast, the Wolves had qualified for the initial FFA CUP, a great achievement for the club, the coach, the players and the region.Twenty-one players were instrumental in getting the club to its FFA Cup Round Of 32 destination. These players are listed with the number of starting appearances (plus substitute entries). - Tom Hamilton (3), James Baldacchino (3), Chris Nathaniel (3) Samuel Jacob (3), Matthew Bailey (2+1), Michael Robinson (2+1), Zac Mackenzie (2+1) Daniel Collison (2), Mitchell Del Turco (2), Jordan Murray (2) Jack Keating (2), Peter Simonoski (2), Ricky Zucco (2), Ben Zucco (2), Hiroaki Kawasaki (2), Sam Matthews (1+2), Chris Price (1), Darcy Madden (1), Sam Chapple (0+1), Joseph Lavalle (0+1) and Brett Wilson (0+1). MATCH DAY SPONSOR

It gives me great satisfaction to team up the club again and help consolidate the club’s position in the highest tier football competition available in Australia. The Zanier Family were involved at the beginning in 1980 and we still have the dream to surpass the great highest achieved in the Wolves long history.

CDN was formed in Sept 1994 to tackle the IT Networks and Software Development market as a family company. There were many occasions when my late father Jack Zanier assisted with several projects to help kick start the company. Going from bricks & mortar to CAT5, Fiber cables and routers was a challenge.

Several TeleRadiology products were developed which provided a digital imaging service for Radiology images to be transferred from a clinic/Hospital to the Radiologist for reporting. Then, CDN provided the innovations and world leading software products began with the following list comprising of just a few:

• 1994 – First ISDN Network connecting Medical Devices

• 1995 – Cine loop movie display, archive and transmit

• 1996 – First Microsoft PACS using Win95 with relational database

• 1999 – First PACS with fully Scalable SAN archive, replaced Tape

• 2002 – First PACS Web with Digital dictation, for the Wards

• 2003 – First One Click access to 3D images by Radiologists

• 2005 – First Microsoft DOT Net PACS released.called Merlin.

• 2008 – CRIS – Web based RIS & Billing for the Australian Market.

• 2009 – First Silverlight Diagnostic PROXY WEB Viewer

• 2010 – Chinese based PACS with Full 64Bit Technology.

• 2011 – Diagnostic imaging on mobile devices, iphones, ipad, etc

• 2012 – First dedicated RIS/PACS for the Justice Health Dept & digital online Examination systems

• 2013 – First and only functioning PACS data transfer connection to NSW State Archives

• 2014 – Complete workflow & imaging WEB management for all Cardiology procedures

PACS stands for “Picture Archival & Communication System” and RIS is the Radiology Information System. Now, CDN provides Enterprise systems for all Imaging Departments, eg Pathology, Cardiology, Endoscopy, etc.

Our Wollongong based company has a team of over 30 people who focus on the development of software and the support of our Australian & International customers.

We have all the certifications required (SFDA, CE, TGA, ISO9001 & ISO13485 accredited) and lead the world in RIS PACS WEB and 3rd party integration solutions for Medical Imaging.
