Journey of a decade since 2008
South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) was formally inaugurated in 2008 as a tailor-made education and research program under the then Department of General and Continuing Education. The International Master degree program in Public Policy and Governance had been a landmark in the history of North South University in Bangladesh. The program has been able to attract a formal recognition as an attractive centre of higher learning of the incumbent young civil servants of the Government of Bangladesh and other South Asian Countries (Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal). Till 2018, the MPPG program has produced more than 150 graduates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

SIPG runs Master in Public Policy and Governance (MPPG) Program which educates young professionals in public policy and governance and follow interdisciplinary approaches covering policy, development economics, political science and comparative governance including gender, culture, and society.
It prepares the students to undertake applied analysis by developing institutional designs whichcan transform public administration system and overall quality of public services in the region.
The institute strives to undertake an inventory of the key thematic challenges related to public policy and attempts to develop a collective and synchronized strategy to address such challengesthrough research and education.
VISION To become a leading academic institution and think tank on policy and governance
GOALS
• To develop professional leaders in policy and governance through education, training, and research
• To generate and disseminate research and evidence based knowledge on policy and governance issues across national, cross national and regional levels
MPPG students complete one semester at University of Bergen (UiB), Norway under the student exchange program.
• Providing quality education by national/regional/international faculty members and practitioners;
• Analyze policy and governance issues and discourses through Bangladeshi, South Asian and international researchers, scholars and experts;
• Develop network and partnership with national, regional, and international institutions for knowledge generation, dissemination and capacity building;
• Blend teaching, research and practice together through cutting-edge teaching and learning methods that work in practice;
• Develop and promote outstanding public sector leadership with vision and professional commitment;
• Advance knowledge for improvement of governance practices.

• Active collaboration with University of Bergen, Norway, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, Tribhuvan University, Nepal and Royal University of Bhutan since 2008 on the basis of agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding (MoU);
• Partnerships with American University of Washington for research and Ph.D scholarships on climate migration;
• Collaboration with National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thailand (two Ph.D scholarships). Post doctoral fund is also offered to the faculty members of NSU;
• Research partnership with Centre for Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Delhi and Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai, India;

• Networking and advocacy with government organizations through formal MoUs and partnership agreement with Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, and collaboration with Ministry of Planning, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Gender Network under Prime Minister’s Office (PMO);
• Collaborative research, policy advocacy and training with bi-lateral and multi-lateral development partners such as UNDP and World Bank.
• Books– Five books have been published from international and national publishing houses (e.g. Springer, Palgrave Mcmillan);
• Policy and Working Papers– several policy papers and working papers have been published by faculty members and graduate students;
• Data Books– Several data books based on nation wide survey data on Governance and Citizens Trust in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka;
• Proceedings– a number of proceedings of seminars, policy colloquium and policy dialogues;
• ScientificJournal(Bi-Annual)– South Asian Journal of Policy and Governance (SJPG).

Strengths of SIPG’s Graduate Studies • Thesis based Master program which helps critical thinking of students;
• The curriculum is designed on the basis of a leading European University i.e. University of Bergen, Norway and customized with local context. in view the professional and practical training needs of the young professionals;
• Gender and ethnic representation in the selection process;
• Involvement of the guest faculty members chosen from the government and other organizations;
• Involves students exchange program which allows students to spend one semester in the University of Bergen in Norway. Likewise, students from Norway are also encouraged to study one semester in Bangladesh;
• More emphasis is given on group work, syndicate exercise and take home exercises;
• On line examination system.
