CLONE TO TEMPLATE
A VMware template is a master image of a virtual machine that can be used to create and provision a new virtual machine. A VMware template involves an operating system, application software and a virtual machine configuration that defines the properties of the virtual hardware.
In our example, we will demonstrate the process to clone a VM to a Template.

From a naming standard, you should name your template to start with Oracle so that you can differentiate Oracle templates from other templates such as application servers, desktops, etc. You should also include in your template names the version of the OS and even the version of the database. In our example, we name our template Oracle Template – Small RHEL 6.5 12c. After providing a name to your template, click on the Next button to continue.

Determine where to place your template. You need to designate the ESXi host where the templates will be housed. As a general rule, you should specify a Master Template server and place all your templates there. To proceed with the template creation process, click on the Next button.
Because we standardized on maintaining all of our templates on a single server and also on a specific datastore, we will click on the Next button to proceed to the next screen. Because we are maintaining the the same disk type as the source VM, we will not change the virtual disk format.

To complete the templatization process, click on the Finish button. If you look at the bottom of the screen in the Recent Tasks section, you will see that the VM is being cloned. Depending on the size of your VM that you are cloning to be a template, it can take a while.
Once the Template cloning process is done, you can look for your New template that you just created. Templates only appear in the VMs and Templates view from the Inventory submenu.
PROVISIONING A VM FROM TEMPLATE
Locate the template that you just created. If we right click on our new template, we can deploy another virtual machine from this template.
Select the “Deploy Virtual Machine from this Template” option.
