Come by and see brother
Geremia’s new store.
We have been discussing for a long time what it would take to
spruce up the lodge (decor is 16 years old, and is beginning to show
it) so that it is a little more inviting for our monthly meetings, spe-
cial events, and when we rent it out. We have discussed new floor-
ing, lowering the ceiling, painting, making the support poles in the
middle of the room look like columns, basic cleaning and reorganiz-
ing, new wall murals, TV with service to watch games. All of this
takes money. We have come to the conclusion we can continue to
talk and talk or pull the trigger and start to do something.
The board has decided to take on this project and we have a few
ideas to raise funds. Please if you have any ideas or would like to
help with this project please contact any board member. We would
like to have the funds raised and work completed within a year.
Please remember the lodge itself and the building we enjoy curtsey
of brother Louie is enjoyed by all members. We all need to be in-
volved and take part, you get out of it as much as you put in.

Help me find a new home!!!!!!
In the eight years since it was built, our Sicilian cart has become the FACE our lodge. It
has been shown in many parades in Pueblo, Canon City, Colorado Springs, and Denver,
and has won numerous awards. It was even present at the funeral of brother Leonardo
Benevittie who hand painted all the murals on the cart. With the material involved, hun-
dreds of hours of work, and the new addition last year of the carousel horse, it can easily
be valued at over fifteen thousand dollars all of which was donated by lodge members,
and others.
But now We need help!!
Brother Don Pagano ( Jim’s cousin) has been graciously storing our Sicilian cart for the
past 8 years in the storage units he owns for NO charge. Thank you can not begin to ex-
press our gratitude for being so generous. Brother Don has recently sold his storage units.
The new owner will continue to store our cart but for a fee of $140 per month as of May
1, 2015. This issue was discussed at the April general lodge meeting. We have decided to
go ahead and store it there on a month to month basis since we have no other alternative.
This is where we need the membership’s help. We need a 25 foot (minimum) enclosed
storage area to store the cart and the articles that go with it. With our lodge building ex-
penses we would rather not have to pay to store the cart for too long. We do have a lodge
member with a trailer that can be used to transport the cart from storage to and from the
event it will be in. IF ANYONE CAN HELP EVEN ON TEMPORARY BASIS
PLEASE CONTACT BIFF GETTEL, JIM PAGANO, OR JOHN OBRIN.
WE CAN PAY A SMALL FEE.

The Sons of Italy Lodge of Southern Colorado “ A STORY WORTH TELLING”
publication.
The Council for our Lodge has approved a plan to publish a new booklet, similar to
the one we had published ten years ago.
The Council feels it is important to document the work done on the
Christopher Columbus Piaza to restore and preserve the Monument.
This booklet will have six main themes.
1. The work done on the Monument and having it placed on the National Regis-
try of Historic Places plus listing the individual and family donors who made
the project possible.
2. The Italian men and women related to our members, who served in World Wars
I and II.
3. The Italians who settled the farming area on the St. Charles Mesa.
4. How did the Italian women come to Pueblo, with the husband or later.
5. The Sicilian cart
6. Additional biographies of Lodge members and their ancestry.
We will be asking for documents and photos related to farming on the Mesa and Vine-
land.
Such as: farm deeds, fliers, programs, men’s and women’s Lodges, vegetable carts and stands, water rights, livestock, churches, and businesses. Also information on your
grandmothers and great grandmothers travels to Pueblo, and why to Pueblo.
All documents and photos will be copied and returned.
More details about family stories next month.
Please help us “TELL OUR STORY” !

Our Creed The Sons of Italy of Southern Colorado, Lodge #2738
was founded in 1999. One of the main reasons this lodge was formed was to protect and maintain the Monument in honor of Christopher Columbus. The lodge feels that it is their honor and responsibility to be the caretakers of this important Pueblo Treasure. Lodge #2738 not only feels the need to take on this important role because of their Italian heritage, but because it represents all of our forefathers and their pursuit of THE AMERICAN DREAM
