7 When deciding where to placethe device, please note that furni-
ture surfaces are covered by vari-ous types of varnish and plastic,most of which contain chemicaladditives. These additives maycause corrosion to the feet of theunit and leave stains on the sur-face of the furniture which couldbe difficult or impossible to re-

2 Observe the polarity marked onthe base of the battery compart-ment when inserting the batteries(2 x 1.5 V LR 03/AM 4/AAA).
3 Insert the lid again and push it tothe right until it latches in place.

ple by direct sunlight, heaters orfire.7 Take out the back-up batteries

Mains operationCheck that the mains voltage on
the type plate (on the bottom of thedevice) corresponds to your localmains supply. If this is not the case,contact your specialist dealer.
1 Plug the mains cable into the sock--et (230 V~, 50/60 Hz).
Caution:7 The device is connected to the
mains with the power cord. Pullout the power cord when youwant to completely disconnectthe device from the mains.
7 Unplug the mains plug to dis-connect the device from the
mains. Make sure the powerplug is easily accessible duringoperation and not hindered byother objects.
Inserting back-upbatteries
During mains operation, the back-upbatteries ensure that stored settingsare not lost in the case of a powerfailure or when the device is brieflydisconnected from the mains.
1 To open the battery compartmentcover on the back of the device,
press on the marked area, pushthe cover forward and lift it up.

several times to move the frequen-cy up in steps.
– The frequency changes up ordown in 50 kHz steps.
Storing stations as presets1 Press »& TUNING %« to select
the station you want to store.
2 Press »MEM/TIME« to activatethe memory function.
– Display: the preset displays»00« and »MEMORY « flash.
3 Press »P –« or »P +« to select thedesired preset.
Note:7 If stations are already stored on
the presets, they are overwrittenwhen new stations are stored.
4 To store the station press»MEM/TIME« again.

example, »2
«.5 To store more stations, repeat
steps 1 to 4.
First installationWhen the device is connected to the
mains for the first, time, an automaticstation search starts. Stations areautomatically saved to the presets.At the end of the search a demoprogram starts. To end the demoprogram, press »ON/OFF«. The sta-tion saved on preset position 1 canbe heard.
If the device receives a station thattransmits an RDS time signal, the timeand the week day are set automati-cally, (RDS time synchronisation).This process may last a few minutes.
If the device could not execute the
automatic station search as well asthe automatic time/week day settingdue to poor reception conditions, forexample, you have to make the set-tings manually or select a differentstation.
Tuning and storingstationsA maximum of 20 stations can bestored on the presets.

– Display: the frequency bandand frequency, or station name.

Deactivating and activatingRDS time synchronisation
1 Press »ON/OFF« to switch thedevice to standby.
2 Deactivate RDS time synchronisa-tion by pressing »MEM/TIME«briefly.
– Display: »CT OFF«.
3 Activate RDS time synchronisa-
tion by pressing »MEM/TIME«briefly.
– Display: »CT ON«. – If an RDS time signal can be
received, the time and the dayof the week are updated afterswitching on the device.
Setting the alarm timesYou can select two different alarmtimes. You can choose whether youwant to be woken by the radio or byan alarm tone.
1 Activate the setting by pressing»ALARM 1« or »ALARM 2«and holding down.
– Display: the last alarm time set,the hours flash.
2 Set the hours with »& TUNING%«and confirm with »ALARM 1« or»ALARM 2«.
– Display: the minutes flash.
Note:7 If the device is disconnected
from the mains, all saved sta-tions will be deleted unless youhave inserted back-up batteries.

Resetting the deviceIf malfunctions occur due to brief
mains overloads or static electricitycharges, reset the device. Any storedsettings are retained.
1 When the device is switched on,press »RESET« on the base of thedevice, for example, using a pa-per clip.
Note:7 If you wish to delete the stored
settings, pull out the mains plugand remove the back-up bat-teries. If you connect the mainscable again after a short time,all stored setting will have been
deleted.
3 Set the minutes with»& TUNING%« and confirm
with »ALARM 1« or »ALARM 2«.
Setting the brightnessof the backlight display1 Repeatedly press »DIMMER«
to change the brightness of thedisplay (3 levels) or switch of the
backlight.Note:7 In addition to this function, the
”AUTO DIMMER” ensures thatthe brightness of the display isadjusted to suit the brightness ofthe surroundings.
Setting the colour ofthe display backlight1 Select the backlight colour
(8 colours) by repeatedly press-ing »COLOUR«.

Selecting preset radiostations
1 Select the radio station with »P –«or »P +«.
Switching the display1 In radio mode, switch the display
between the time/day andfrequency or station name with»DISPLAY «.
RDS informationRDS (Radio Data System) is an infor-mation system which is transmittedadditionally by most FM stations.
If the device receives an RDS station,the station name appears brieflyin the display, for example »FAN-
TASY«, and »f« is displayedconstantly.
Note:7 It may take some time before
all the RDS information is avail-able.
Searching for RDS stations1 Search for the desired RDS sta-
tion by pressing »P –« or »P +«repeatedly until »f« ap-pears in the display and an RDSstation is received.
General informationSwitching on and off
1 Switch on the device from standbymode with »ON/OFF«.
2 Switch on the device to standbymode with »ON/OFF«.
Adjusting the volume1 Set the desired volume with »C«
(right side of the device)
Listening with headphonesor earphones1 Insert the headphone or earphone
plug (ø 3.5 mm, stereo) into the»0« jack on the left of the de-vice.
– The loudspeaker of the device isswitched off.
Caution:7 Excessive sound pressure from
the earphones or headphonescan cause hearing loss.
Radio modeFor the best FM (UHF) reception it issufficient to align the wire antennaaccordingly.

Displaying the currentprogramme type
1 To display the current programmetype, press »RDS/WEC« twice.
– The programme type appears inthe display.
– If no programme type identifica-tion is available, »NO PTY« ap-pears.
Searching for programmetypes (PTY)This RDS function enables you tosearch radio stations according toprogramme type. A total of 31 pro-gramme types have been defined.
1 Select the desired programme
type by pressing »RDS/WEC«repeatedly until the desired pro-gramme type is displayed.
2 To start the search in the desireddirection press »& TUNING%«.
– Display: »PTY« flashes. – If the desired programme type
has been found, the corre-sponding programme can beheard.
– If the programme type could notbe found, »NO MATCH« appearsbriefly in the display. The devicereturns to the previous station.
Note:7 The search can be interrupted
with »& TUNING%«.
RDS time synchronisationSome RDS stations transmit an RDS
time signal. If the reception is good,this time information will update thetime (display: »w« flashes), as longas the time synchronisation is activat-ed (see page 23). After successfultime synchronisation, »w« remainsconstantly in the display.
Time synchronisation can take sev-eral minutes, and even with goodreception the accuracy depends onthe time signal being transmitted. Theautomatic setting is always activatedif the device is switched on fromstandby to radio mode and a suit-able RDS station can be received.
Radio textThe radio text is RDS information.
1 To call up radio text, press »RDS/WEC«.
– The radio text (TEXT) appears inthe display as ticker text.
– If no radio text is available, »NOTEXT« appears in the display.

Interrupting the alarm1 Press »SNOOZE« while the
alarm is going off. – The alarm signal (radio station
or signal tone) stops.
– The alarm goes off again at five-minute intervals (overall alarmduration is 90 minutes).
Cancelling the alarm forthe day1 Press »ON/OFF« while the alarm
is going off. – The alarm (radio station oralarm tone) stops, but it retainsthe set time for the next day.

for the weekend.
Sleep timerThe device has a sleep timer, which
switches it off in radio mode at a pre-set time. The switch off time can beset in a range between 90 and 10minutes.
Activating the sleep timer1 Set the desired switch-off time
progressively by pressing andholding down »SLEEP/NAP« orin steps by pressing the button re-peatedly.
– Display: »≤«. – After the selected switch-off time
has elapsed, the device switch-es off automatically.
2 Display the remaining time untilswitch-off by pressing»SLEEP/NAP«.
Deactivating the sleeptimer1 To switch off the sleep timer early,
press »ON/OFF«; or
set the switch-off time to »SLEEP
00« by pressing »SLEEP/NAP«. – Display: »≤« disappears.

a certain time (between 10 and 120minutes) with a signal tone.

– Display: »NAP «. – The device emits a signal tone to
