INTRODUCTION Green efforts exist at

Clemson Visibility of these

projects is not readily apparent

Sustainability is a 21st century issue

CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ENERGY AWARENESS*

20% by 2020: Reduce energy usage 20% by 2020 “In an effort to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions,

Clemson also has a long range goal to increase its energy sourcing from renewable resources by 10% by fiscal year 2025.”

100% by 2030: Net zero emissions by 2030 “Transform the main campus into a model for energy

sustainability: a “net-zero,” carbon-neutral campus.” “As Clemson continues to innovate to reach for it's 2020

and 2030 goals, solar installations will play a major role in meeting our energy needs.”

PROBLEM & SOLUTION Clemson needs to demonstrate its commitment

to sustainability Students need to be better connected to green

energy Laptops/phones always need to be recharged Lack of outdoor charging if you want to be

outside

VISION Our project aims to create a solar charging table

for personal electronics These tables could be installed around campus for

students to work at outdoors They provide enough power to charge 2-4

laptops, phones, tablets, or other personal electronics

The battery ensures a steady supply of energy even in cloudy conditions

BENEFITS Attractive, high visibility installation demonstrates

Clemson’s commitment to sustainability Allows students to interact with renewable energy

in a personal way, while providing a useful service About 1/5 of the cost of commercial versions Table built for students, by students Mobile installations can be moved around campus Could save Clemson up to 200 kWh/table each

semester

PROGRESS Completed a design for our concept and

determined the components necessary for its construction

Acquired the electrical components, including the solar panels

Received approval to install our first table on campus
