SOLAR MOTOR

Presented By-Dhwanik PanchalVikram VermaNilesh PanchalPritesh Pandey

INTRODUCTION• Presently we are using ac & dc motors,

generators and other special motors.• This all motors use conventional sources of

energy.• We are introducing a motor which uses a

nonconventional source.• So here we are introducing “Solar Motor”.

Idea In The Project• In this motor we are mounting solar cells on

rotor which is having armature winding.• Permanent magnets used instead of field

winding.• Solar cell supplies the current to armature

winding.• Using this concept the solar motor works like a

dc motor.

WORKING• When light strikes one of the solar cells, it generates an

electric current thus energizing one of the rotor windings.

• This produces a magnetic field which interacts with the field of the stator magnets generating a force perpendicular to the length of the coil.

• This interaction causes the rotor to turn. As the rotor

rotates, the first solar cell enters shadow and the next solar cell moves into the light and energizes the second winding.

ADVANTAGES

• Motor is independent of electric supply.• It is environmental friendly.• Weight of motor is very less.• Pollution free, less noisy.• Minimum maintenance is required.• Can be used in remote areas.• Operating cost is negligible.• No starting methods required.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

• Sterling Engine.• Solar Motor pump.• Solar cooling motor.• Solar motor for wind spinners.

Some specification of Motor

• Speed - 850 RPM.• Each Solar panel - 9V DC, 0.11Amp., 1Watt.• For 6 solar panel – 6 Watt.

COST ESTIMATION

• 4 to 6 solar cells - 2000 to 3000Rs• a coil of 0.2 mm enameled copper wire - 300

to 350Rs• Fiber case & shaft tube or any wooden rod -

1000Rs • Permanent magnets - 800 to 1000Rs• Total estimated cost - 5000 to 7000Rs
