T he morning started out very nicely. Absolutely thrilled to be on another fishing mission with Pat Ford, I headed to the airport, and
was greeted by the Rum Bum air crew.Much to my delight, the plane was a
classic! It was an Air Commander 59, comfortable as could be, and an absolute pleasure to experience. I enjoyed this trip immensely. It was a fantastic flight that I very much hope to take again soon.
Upon our arrival at the Bimini Big Game Club, we were greeted warmly with a familiar welcome that Pat Ford has been receiving for many years. I was instantly relaxed in our gorgeous surroundings, and we were excited to drop our bags in our rooms and hit the flats with Bimini’s own, Eagle Eyes Fred.
I must say, it was a beautiful day on the flats. I learned even more about looking for fish by watching Fred’s example, and it was a real treat to be a part of the teamwork that goes into the captain/angler
experience. Pat and Fred have built a solid and strategic method for catching fish on the Bimini flats.
As in every successful relationship, communication is key. I was extremely impressed how Fred and Pat bantered back and forth with the greatest of ease in order to spot, and sight cast for the fish.
Permit is often found scavenging for the hapless crabs that sting rays root out of the shallow sand. Accordingly, when fishing the flats for permit, it’s always a good idea to look for activity around feeding stingrays. Pat and Fred havea method for bonefish as well. It’s important to remain quiet, because bonefish spook easily, and they can be tricky to catch.
Our day ended beautifully, and we were all tired, happy, and pleased to return to the Bimini Big Game Club for a refreshing shower, delicious dinner and wonderful accommodations. As the tropical breeze tousled my hair, I looked out at the stars and thanked my good fortune to be alive.

L a mañana comenzó muy bien. Absolutamente encantada de estar en otra misión de pesca con Pat Ford, me dirigí
al aeropuerto y fui recibida por el personal de vuelo de Rum Bum.
Para mi alegría, el avión era un clásico! Fue un Air Commander 59, cuyo confort me produjo un placer absoluto. Me gustó mucho este viaje. Fue un vuelo fantástico que esperaba disfrutar desde hacia tiempo.
A nuestra llegada a Bimini Big Game Club, nos dieron una cálida bienvenida en un ambiente familiar, parecida a la que Pat Ford ha venido recibiendo desde hace muchos años. Al instante me relajé al observar los magníficos paisajes naturales de los alrededores. Estuvimos muy contentos de dejar las maletas en nuestras habitaciones y prepararnos para pescar en los bajos de Bimini con Eagle Eyes Fred.

Aprendí algo más acerca de como buscar peces viendo el ejemplo de Fred. Fue un verdadero placer ser parte del experimentado equipo de trabajo que existe entre capitán y pescador. Pat y Fred han elaborado un método sólido y estratégico para la captura de peces en las partes bajas de Bimini.
Como en toda relación exitosa, la comunicación es clave. Me quedé muy impresionada de cómo Fred y Pat bromeaban con facilidad con el fin de detectar visualmente a los peces.
Las palometas se encuentran a menudo rebuscando cangrejos desventurados en la arena poco profunda. Pat y Fred tienen un método para pescar macabies también. Es importante mantener la calma, porque el macabí se asusta fácilmente y puede ser difícil de atrapar.
Nuestro día terminó muy bien, y todos estábamos cansados, felices y contentos de regresar al Bimini Big Game Club para darnos una ducha refrescante y disfrutar de una deliciosa cena y alojamiento maravilloso. Como la brisa tropical me alborotó el cabello, miré a las estrellas y di gracias a mi buena suerte de estar viva.

T he African Sharptooth Catfish also known as Claria, was introduced in Cuba for aquaculture purposes
approximately 15 years ago. The fish is very hardy and can live in low oxygen as well as polluted waters. This fish was introduced to augment the diets of the Cuban people. As it happens often with exotic species, this fish escaped into the rivers, lakes and dams throughout the island. Today the Claria has become the dominant fish and is threatening all endemic species in the island. During recent trips to Cuba, I had the opportunity to fish in the Hatiguanico River in the Zapata swamp area. I was very upset to see that the Claria are everywhere in the river and in very large numbers. Today it is very difficult to find Biajacas, Cuban Gar Fish and many other endemic species that previously were abundant in this area.
I also traveled to other provinces and found the same problem. Lakes that previously had Largemouth Bass now do not have any.Once an exotic fish gets well established in a new environment, it is impossible to eradicate it. Since in Cuban rivers and lakes the Claria has no natural enemies, it is multiplying rapidly and eliminating many endemic fish.This problem is not exclusive to Cuba. Today we have a grave problem in the Florida Everglades with exotic Python snakes devouring many endemic species. On my travels, I have found the same problem in many other countries. Introducing an exotic animal into a new environment is a very bad idea. We humans are responsible for these problems and it is time that we learn from our mistakes.

E l bagre africano de diente afilado también conocido como Claria, se introdujo en Cuba para fines de acuicultura
hace aproximadamente 15 años. El pescado es muy resistente y puede vivir respirando bajos niveles de oxígeno, así como en aguas contaminadas. Este pez fue introducido para aumentar las dietas de la población cubana. Como sucede a menudo con las especies exóticas, este pez se escapó hacia los ríos, lagos y embalses en toda la isla. Hoy la Claria se ha convertido en el pez dominante y está amenazando a todas las especies endémicas de la isla de Cuba.Durante mis recientes viajes a Cuba, tuve la oportunidad de pescar en el río Hatiguanico en el área de la Ciénaga de Zapata. Yo estaba muy molesto al ver que la Claria está en grandes cantidades por todas partes del río. Hoy en día es muy difícil encontrar Biajacas, manjuari y muchas otras especies endémicas que antes eran
abundantes en esta zona. También viajé a otras provincias y encontré el mismo problema. Lagos que anteriormente tenían truchas, ahora no tienen.Una vez que un pez exótico se ha establecida en un nuevo ambiente, es imposible erradicarlo. Dado que en los ríos y lagos cubanos la Claria no tiene enemigos naturales, se multiplican rápidamente y eliminan a muchos peces endémicos.Este problema no es exclusivo de Cuba. Hoy tenemos un grave problema en los Everglades de Florida con serpientes pitón exóticas que devoran muchas especies endémicas. En mis viajes de exploración, he encontrado este mismo problema en muchos otros países.La introducción de un animal exótico en un nuevo entorno no es muy buena idea. Los seres humanos somos responsables de estos problemas y es hora que aprendamos de nuestros errores.

SHOE EMERGES VICTORIOUS AT THE 2015 CASA DE CAMPO BLUE MARLIN CLASSICBy Rick Alvarez Photos Richard Gibson
It was the team from Florida aboard the 62’ Spencer Shoe who finished at the top of the leader board on the third and final day of this year’s Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic tournament, taking home a fortune in cash and luxury prizes. Unusually strong currents greeted the tournament fleet on day one as they headed out to the fishing grounds off of Casa de Campo’s luxurious marina.

A t 9:22AM Blue Heaven broke the ice with the tournament’s first blue. That afternoon of the
first day a battle ensued which was to continue until the final minutes of the final day between North Carolina’s Contango and Miami based Betsy with both boats releasing a pair of blue marlin. At lines out Contango held on to take the daily releasing their second blue ahead of Betsy. Day two dawned much the same as the first with currents so strong that many of the boats reported that a number of the local artisanal fleet’s FADs (Floating Aggregate Devices) were being pulled
under the surface by the churning tides and could not be seen while others had disintegrated and scattered.
A new battle broke out this day between Betsy and Shoe, releasing three blues a piece with the latter taking the daily by virtue of bonus points earned for releases registered on 30-pound-test line under tournament rules. Contango remained in the hunt with the release of a blue. That evening everyone feasted at the ‘Fiesta Latina’ in Altos de Chavon to the sounds of salsa and merengue with delicious tapas including Spanish Serrano Pata Negra Ham courtesy of event sponsors Gastropolis, plus

cocktails by Bermudez Rum and Dewar’s 12 Year Old Scotch.
The next day was the Lay-Day in which activities included a Sporting Clays competition when 18 participants tested their shooting skills, and the First Annual CDC Donkey Polo Match where everyone had an awesome time while some contestants fell off their donkeys playing this hilariously grueling sport! In the evening the Play for the Kids Gaming Night was held at the Casa de Campo Yacht Club to generate funds for the tournament’s favorite charity, Hogar del Niño.
Once again that third and final day began the same as the previous two days of fishing while the stage was set for what was to be an exciting down to the wire finish. Shoe immediately proceeded to get things started by releasing the first blue of the day and added a second one in the early afternoon pulling ahead of Betsy due to the 30-pound-test bonus points while Contango gave chase by releasing two blues of their own catching up to the leader but unable to pass them thus moving only into second place based on time at lines out.
Betsy finished third with no fish on the last day. When it was all said and done, the 17 boat tournament fleet had released a very respectable 40 blue marlin in the three days. Shoe’s owner Don Schumacher commented, “Hard work and attention to details
by everyone on the team is what accomplished the win for us”.
My Captain Devin Silas worked very hard to get us on fish and that was the reason for our win”. Additionally, 6 white marlin and 2 spearfish were released and although these did not score points in the tournament, the Blue Marlin Classic was the first leg of the Dominican Triple-Header tournament series and they did count towards series points.
Contango is holding the lead after leg one in the series. In the Individual angler standings Betsy’s owner, Mike Brauser was the tournament’s top angler with five blues earning him the Mustad Silver Hook Trophy. His captain, Tim Popfinger explained, “Great tournament. Mike caught all 5 blue marlin. We would have won if we fished 30 line test, but we chose 50. Our game plan was to catch more fish quickly. The last day we didn’t see anything, so it didn’t turn out exactly as planned. A lot of anxiety that last day. It was tough”.
In second place was Miss Magnolia angler Geno Savers with three blues edging out on time Shoe’s Kenny Krumins who also had three and they too received Mustad Silver Hook trophies. Top Lady Angler was Dominican Patricia Ranik aboard Tomahawk. Dates are already set for next year from April 13th to 17th. Mark your calendars!

SHOE RESULTO VICTORIOSA EN EL CASA DE CAMPO BLUE MARLIN CLASSIC 2015Por Rick AlvarezFotos Richard Gibson
F ue el equipo de la Florida a bordo de la 62’ Spencer Shoe quien terminó en primer lugar en el
marcador en el tercer y último día del Casa de Campo International Blue Marlin Classic de este año, llevándose a casa una fortuna en premios en efectivo y lujosos regalos.
La flota de lanchas de pesca deportiva fue recibida por excepcionalmente fuertes corrientes al dirigirse a la zona de pesca desde la lujosa Marina Casa de Campo el primer día. A las 9:22AM Blue Heaven rompió el hielo al liberar el primer marlín azul del torneo. Esa tarde surgió una batalla que continuó hasta los últimos minutos del tercer y último día del certamen entre la Contango de Carolina del Norte y Betsy basada en Miami, quienes liberaron sendas azules cada una. Al concluir la pesca Contango se ganó el pote del día manteniéndose delante al liberar su segundo azul antes que Betsy.
El segundo día amaneció igual que el primero con corrientes tan fuertes que embarcaciones reportaron que muchas
de las boyas (FADs Floating Aggregate Devices) de la flota artesanal del área se encontraban sumergidas debido a las revueltas mareas y otras se habían desintegrado. Una nueva pelea se desenvolvió ese día esta vez entre Betsy y Shoe cada una liberando tres azules y Shoe ganándose el pote del día gracias a una bonificación en el reglamento por capturas en línea de 30 lbs. Contango se mantuvo en el combate liberando una azul. Esa noche todos disfrutaron al máximo en Altos de Chavón durante la Fiesta Latina al ritmo de salsa y merengue con deliciosas tapas incluyendo Jamón Serrano Pata Negra patrocinado por Gastrópolis y calmaron su sed con la ayuda de Ron Bermúdez y whiskey escocés Dewar’s 12 Años.
El próximo día fue el Día de Descanso con actividades que incluyeron una competencia de tiro de platos deportivos donde compitieron 18 participantes dominada por los dominicanos y la Primera Contienda CDC de Polo en Burro donde varios jinetes cayeron

de sus bestias jugando este comiquísimo y agotante deporte. En la noche se celebró Noche Juegue Por Los Niños en el Yacht Club de la marina para recaudar fondos a favor de la obra benéfica Hogar del Niño. Nuevamente el tercer día de pesca comenzó igual que los otros dos para lo que prometía ser un emocionante final que duraría hasta el último segundo de la jornada. Shoe no demoró en comenzar la acción liberando el primer azul del día y añadiendo un segundo azul temprano en la tarde sacándole ventaja a Betsy debido a la bonificación por pescar
con línea de 30 lbs. mientras que Contango también libero dos azules empatando a Shoe quienes habían liberado su segundo azul antes que ellos pero al no poder rebasarlos quedaron en segundo lugar según el reglamento. Betsy terminó en tercero al no registrar capturas ese último día. Al concluir la competencia la flota de 17 yates de pesca habían liberado un muy respetable total de 40 azules en tres días. Don Shumacher dueño de la Shoe comentó, “Fuerte trabajo y atención a los detalles por todos en el equipo fue los que nos dio la victoria. Mi capitán Devin Silas

trabajó muy duro para colocarnos en donde estaban los peces y esa fue la razón de nuestra victoria”. Adicionalmente se liberaron 6 marlin blancos y 2 peces lanza y aunque estas especies no anotaron puntos en este torneo, como el Blue Marlin Classic fue la primera etapa de la serie Dominican Billfish Triple-Header, estas especies si anotaron puntos para la serie con Contango en posición delantera en la serie después de la primera etapa. La próxima etapa tomará lugar del 9 al 14 de junio durante el Cap Cana Shootout.
En la premiación de pescadores individuales Mike Brauser de la Betsy fue el ganador con 5 azules lo cual le consiguió el Premio Anzuelo de Plata de Mustad. Su capitán Tim Popfinger explicó, “Gran torneo. Mike capturo nuestros 5 azules. Hubiésemos ganado con línea de 30 pero escogimos pescar con 50. Esa era nuestra estrategia para liberar más rápido pero el plan no resultó”. El segundo pescador con mayor capturas fue Geno Savers a bordo de la Miss Magnolia con 3 azules y en tercero también con 3 fue Kenny Krumins de la Shoe y ambos recibieron trofeos Anzuelo de Plata de Mustad. La dama pescadora de mayor puntuación fue la dominicana Patricia Ranik a bordo de la Tomahawk. Ya se han fijado las fechas para el año que viene del 13 al 17 de abril. Anótenlo, esperamos verlos a todos.

L os urbanizadores de The Atrium at Aventura, un complejo localizado en el corazón de Aventura, Florida, optaron por desarrollar un mundo de maravilla en tres acres y medio de terreno. Visionaron un paisaje con follajes tropicales y paredes
de vidrio. Se imaginaron un ambiente sereno, donde los residentes pudieran experimentar tranquilidad a cada momento rodeados de un ambiente natural dentro de sus casas, y fue precisamente así como crearon The Atrium, dándole vida al sentir y el estilo de vida que este nombre conlleva.

with the first event of their Bonfire Series, a two-day Wahoo Tournament and the unveiling of Bobby Little’s Burning Wahoo sculpture at Old Bahama Bay in February. Anglers in 23 boats fought wind and challenging weather for the largest wahoo and aggregate total over the two-day tournament period. St. Augustine’s Fishin a Loanteam emerged as the tournament champion, landing the largest wahoo at 63.9 lb on Day 1 and a 60.5 lb wahoo on Day 2 for a cumulative total of 448 lbs.
Every Bonfire Tournament Festival celebrates the Guy Harvey Outpost attitude by promoting fishing, adventure, art and conservation. At
each event, Rum Cay artist Bobby Little creates a unique ocean-themed sculpture inspired by the location and its fishery. These “larger than life” works of art are crafted from recyclable materials that the artist finds in the Bahamas. SAILFISH FISHING IN SOUTH FLORIDA

T he sailfish population in South Florida remains healthy because we have implemented many conservation measures in the past few years.
Initially all tournaments were kill tournaments, where you had to bring in the fish to the dock. This changed a number of years ago and tournaments became catch and release only. The State of Florida developed minimum size and bag limits to help keep the sailfish populations at sustainable numbers.
The introduction of circle hooks has been a very important conservation measure. Circle hooks catch the fish in the corner of the mouth, thus decreasing the damage done by hooking and fighting the fish. Now when we release the sailfish, they are more likely to survive the experience.
Circle hooks are required by all tournaments.Today we consider the sailfish as a sport fish that should always
be released alive and not killed for food. As a result of all these conservation measures, we continue to have many sailfish in South Florida for recreational anglers to catch and release.

L a población de pez vela en el sur de la Florida se mantiene saludable, porque hemos puesto en marcha muchas medidas de conservación en los últimos años.
Inicialmente todos los torneos eran torneos de matanza, donde había que traer el pez hasta el muelle. Desde hace años esto cambió y se convirtió en torneos de captura y liberación solamente. El Estado de Florida desarrolló límites de tamaño mínimo en las capturas para ayudar
a mantener las poblaciones de pez vela en cantidades sostenibles.
La introducción de los anzuelos circulares ha sido una medida de conservación muy importante. Los anzuelos circulares penetran en la esquina de la boca de los peces capturados, disminuyendo daños a los mismos al ser enganchado en su lucha por tratar de liberarse. Cuando
liberamos al pez vela, éste tiene más posibilidades de sobrevivir. Los anzuelos circulares son requeridos por todos los torneos.
Hoy día consideramos al pez vela como un pez deportivo que siempre debe ser liberado vivo y no matarlo por comida. Como resultado de todas estas beneficiosas medidas de conservación, seguimos teniendo muchos peces vela en el sur de la Florida para el disfrute de los pescadores deportivos que los capturan y liberan sin dañar las especies marinas.

E l pasado 8 de abril fue presentado el libro “Mis 6 Guerras” del autor Eduardo A. Palmer. El acto
fue llevado a cabo en el Instituto de Estudios Cubanos y Cubanoamericanos de la Universidad de Miami. El Dr. Eduardo Zayas Bazán fue el maestro
de ceremonias. El destacado escritor y periodista Carlos Alberto Montaner fue el presentador. En el panel estuvieron el autor Eduardo A. Palmer, el cineasta Orlando Jiménez Leal, el Dr. Zayas Bazán y Carlos Alberto Montaner.
Hechas las introducciones se procedió a un ciclo de preguntas que Montaner y Jiménez Leal le hicieron a Palmer sobre el contenido del libro, de su carrera como corresponsal de guerra y sobre su historia como productor de televisión y cine.
Al final, Palmer dio las gracias a todas las personas que ayudaron a la realización del libro y a las personas presentes.
El libro cubre 1) El triunfo de revolución cubana en el 1959 y la lucha clandestina en 1960 contra el régimen comunista que fue implantado en cuba. El capitulo 2 describe la guerra civil dominicana de 1965. Capitulo 3 trata de la guerra en El Salvador en 1980, capitulo 4 describe la política de represalia de los sandinistas en Nicaragua contra los indios misquitos, sumos y ramas que se negaban a aceptar el marxismo leninismo implantado en ese país. Capitulo 5 es sobre la invasión de Granada por fuerzas de EE.UU en 1983, Capitulo 6 trata sobre la invasión a Panamá por fuerzas de EE.UU. en 1989 y el capitulo 7 es sobre el programa semanal de TV “Planeta3” producido por Eduardo A. Palmer en Santo Domingo, Rep. Dominicana que duró once años y llegó a exhibirse en 16 países de América Latina.

Encounter with the King of Mangle Alto ReefJardines de la Reina

L ast week, I had a unique encounter with the mysterious and feared King Hammerhead in Jardines de la Reina. Mysterious
and feared because of its behavior, its body shape, amazing size and its aggressiveness while hunting for tarpon near the shallow reef, all this together with thestories of local fishermen about this shark in poor visibility waters of the Ana Maria Gulf, and the legends that have created a shadow of fear and myth around this shark, are some of the reasons why it is considered a ghost that most of local fishermen fear, even when staying in the boat, dry and out of the water.
I have seen many King Hammerheads during dives; this species is one of the common inhabitants of Jardines de la Reina, even it is not very easy to see due to their abundance or behavior? I don’t know for sure, what I really know is that it is difficultto see or take pictures of this beautiful animal. All divers, being photographers or not, always dream about finding this shark,and when they do, it is very shy, swimming away most of the times.
I said “most of the times” and this is the reason why my encounter was unique, my hammerhead was not shy
at all, but extremely curious, I would say too much curious and that’s what really made me feel a bit nervous, mainly regarding thedifference in size between us. I was diving in “Pipin” and there was one person in the boat who was not comfortable with the idea of going to the water with our beloved Silky sharks, (in this diving spot there is a group of 20-25 sharks welcoming divers while swimming in the surface, as soon as the boat gets to the mooring buoy) and as it is our custom in Jardines de la Reina to spoil customers without limits, I was not happy seeing these man wouldn’t go to the water, so I offered him to go (after the dive) to a beautiful shallow reef full of alive Elkhorn coral and tons of fish for a “free-of-sharks” snorkeling.
After the dive, we jumped in the reef, 9 feet deep, we started swimming over the coral heads, then I look at my side, and there it was: Mr. King Hammerhead 13 feet long,getting closer to us, turning its heat to take a closer look with its left eye, the guy that didn’t want to see sharks had his reward, hi didn’t see 20 Silkies but a 13 feet lonely hammerhead, all I have in my mind as a memory is the huge body, so thick, brown color, the stomach near the bottom and dorsal

fin nearthe surface, too narrow water space for its huge body, swimming slowly fearless approaching us, too close, too confident, I did move my fins near the sharks head and it turned around slowly swimming away very confident as the king of the reef that it was. Obviously for this shark we were very small, and it was very relaxed in this situation, I wouldn’t say the same of us, even I am a shark lover and believe most of the sharks are harmless for humans, I felt a bit
threatened by this animal, mainly because we were in the middle of the King’s hunting grounds. We went away very excited, the guy definitely started diving with the silkies next day, and we both shared an eternal memory of this encounter, in my mind forever the image of this majestic shark with such strange head shape, one of the miracles of nature, face to face in the shallow reef, this image I will never forget.

L a semana pasada, tuve un encuentro único con el misterioso y temido tiburón cabeza de martillo en Jardines de la Reina (Cuba),
calificado así por su comportamiento, la forma de su cuerpo, el tamaño increíble y su agresividad, mientras me dedicaba a cazar sábalos cerca de los arrecifes poco profundos, todo esto unido a las historias de los pescadores locales sobre este tiburón en aguas de poca visibilidad del Golfo de Ana María, y las leyendas que han creado una sombra de miedo y mito en torno a este tiburón, son algunas de las razones por las que se considera un fantasma que la mayoría de los pescadores locales temen. Incluso desde el barco observé muchos tiburones martillo durante mis inmersiones.
Esta especie es uno de los habitantes comunes de los Jardines de la Reina, aunque no es muy fácil ver debido a la abundancia y comportamiento del mismo. Realmente es difícil ver o tomar fotos de este hermoso animal. Todos los buzos, siendo fotógrafos o no, siempre sueñan con encontrar este tiburón, y cuando lo hacen, ven que es muy tímido. Esta es la razón por la que mi encuentro fue único: mi martillo no era tímido en absoluto, pero
muy curioso, yo diría que demasiado curioso y eso es lo que realmente me hizo sentir un poco nervioso, en relación principalmente a la diferencia de tamaño entre nosotros. Había una persona en el barco que no se sentía cómodo con la idea de ir al agua con los Jaquetones, (en este punto del buceo había un grupo de 20 a 25 tiburones, dándole bienvenida a los buzos, mientras nadábamos en la superficie, unidos al barco a través de la boya de amarre). Después de la inmersión fuimos a un hermoso arrecife poco profundo lleno de vida con corales de cuerno de alce y toneladas de pescados para realizar un buceo “libre de los tiburones”.
Después de la inmersión a 9 metros de profundidad, empezamos a nadar sobre las cabezas de coral, entonces miré a mi lado, y allí estaba: el Sr. Rey cabeza de martillo de 13 pies de largo, cada vez más cerca de nosotros, observándonos con su ojo izquierdo. De este cabeza de martillo recuerdo su enorme cuerpo, su color marrón, y su aleta dorsal en la superficie, nadando lentamente sin miedo acercándose a nosotros, demasiado confiado como el rey de los arrecifes que es. La mayoría de los tiburones son inofensivos para los humanos. Aunque me sentí un poco

amenazado por este animal, nos fuimos muy contentos, porque en mi mente siempre estará la imagen
de este majestuoso tiburón con tan extraña forma de cabeza, que nunca olvidaré.

It is 35 percent alcohol by volume (70 proof) making it very pleasant on the tongue with a long, smooth finish. It will retail at approximately $15 per 750ml bottle.Guy Harvey Spiced Rum is ideal for consuming on the rocks, with cola, lemon-lime soda or juices. It will also be actively promoted in a version of a traditional rum cocktail known as the Shark Bite. The cocktail consists of ¾ ounces Guy Harvey Spiced Rum, ¾ ounces light rum, ½ ounce blue curacao, 1½ ounces sweet and sour mix and 3 drops of grenadine. Initial distribution has begun in Florida. Plans to take the product to markets outside of Florida in 2015 are currently in the works. Additionally, a second Guy Harvey branded rum offering, an aged blended Ja-maican rum, is in development and is expected to be introduced in the spring of 2015. A significant portion of the net proceeds from Guy Harvey Spiced Rum will be used to fund the various projects of the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, a non-profit that funds scientific marine research and conservation programs. In particular, the proceeds from Guy Harvey Spiced Rum will fund marine scien-ce and outreach programs.

The ocean has long been known for its transformative powers. Veterans wounded in the service of our country are
discovering the healing effects of a day on the water through Blue Water Warriors. The non-profit organization takes these men and women out in a specially-designed adaptive boat that features gyro stabilization donated by Seakeeper. Like many great ideas, this one began as a collection of smaller, disparate pieces. Yacht captain Andrew Grego met a charter guest who was battling cancer, yet experiencing respite through the restorative nature of the sea. She introduced him to a veteran severely injured in Afghanistan who, in turn, led him to more vets at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.From this, Grego started Blue Water Warriors. He would require help from the marine industry if he was to build a stable boat that could accommodate the unique needs of an injured vet. Grego turned to Seakeeper, who was immediately on board. “Without them,” he said, “there’s no way we could have afforded to do what we’ve done.”We’re proud to be part of the Blue Water Warriors team,” said Andrew Semprevivo, Seakeeper VP of sales and marketing.
“Our desire is simply for our technology to help those who have served us so well.” Warrior, a custom 37.5’ off-center console sportfishing boat, is the result of Grego’s inspired idea. Extra wide swing-open transom and side doors, and deck-level boarding ramps allow easy entry. An oversized, dual-level head includes a floor that lowers electronically for wheelchair access. For fishermen, there’s a specially-adapted, custom-built fighting chair and harnesses. Veterans can snorkel, or simply go cruising and restaurant-hopping. Everything on the vessel is designed to minimize limitations. Installed beneath a clear lazarette, the innovative Seakeeper gyro reduces
resonant roll by up to 90%, whether the boat is at rest or underway. Onboard guests are safer and more comfortable, adding to the enjoyment of their time spent on the water. “Some who go out are on prosthetics, in a wheelchair, or use crutches,” said Grego. “To have a stable platform out on the water is a huge advantage. They don’t need to get hurt any more than they are.” Since November 2014, the organization has been transforming lives. “I’m humbled by the generosity you’ve shown me,” said SNR SGT Andrew Casey, USAF, after spending
time on Warrior. “Through people like you, the invisible wounds of war will be healed.” Blue Water Warriors is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. Its second boat is being built by Vision Boat of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The organization’s goal is to have six vessels near military hospitals on the eastern seaboard. With fuel prices continuing to climb, high-performance boaters are turning to efficient, low-maintenance diesel power. un reconocimiento al locutor de deportes Roly Martin por crear Premios Copa Dorada. Desde el año 1988 a través de estos premios, Martin ha honrado a los mejores atletas hispanos desde las ligas juveniles hasta

profesionales en el sur de la Florida, así animando a los jóvenes a participar y sobresalir en deportes.
