Two smaller suites were reconfigured to
create the Royal Suite of 180sqm, which was

Sofitel Melbourne is a five-star hotel within
Collins Place at the ‘Paris End’ of Collins
Street. Bates Smart led the design team for
the refurbishment of the 13 premium suites
on Level 50, and the creation of the executive
lounge ‘Club Sofitel’ on Level 35. The firm
was the architect of the original Collins Place
project in association with I M Pei in 1975.
The updated executive suites are modern,
timeless rooms with interiors that are warm
and elegant, calming and relaxed. To overcome
the constraints of the small bathrooms, solid
walls were replaced with translucent glass
screens. Improved lighting, polished mirror
surfaces and white stone vanity tops add
sparkle and a new openness.
