SodiumHypochloriteProductionCostComparisonThis tool can be used to determine the raw materials required to produce a given strength of bleach. Two entries are given for the production process, “Current Production” and “Powell High Efficiency Production”, so that a comparison can be made to determine the dollar savings realized by utilizing a process with higher reaction efficiencies. In a bleach production process, higher reaction efficiencies produce lower chlorate formation which results in raw material savings. A typical Powell continuous bleach process will produce less than 1 gram per liter sodium chlorate. Powell’s experience has shown that sodium chlorate levels in “typical” processes range from 5-8 grams per liter.
DirectionsTo determine the raw materials required to produce a given strength of bleach, enter values in the input boxes for the Current Production, Powell High Efficiency Production, and Economics.
The raw materials required to produce a given strength of bleach are calculated and displayed in either English or Metric units. To switch between English and Metric units, click the English or Metric tab.
To reset the values to their initial state, click the reset button. To print the tool values and graph, click the print button. Both of these buttons can be found directly below the graph.
