Department News New procedure for enrolling in internships, independent study, and independent research (SOC/ANT 391, 393, 399): If you are considering an internship (399), independent study (391) or independent research (393), there is a new procedure for submitting for approval. From now on, students will need to still fill out the official R&R form, the supplemental department form with full project proposal, obtain the necessary signatures and then upload them to the new HSS online portal which can be found by scrolling down on the HSS forms page: https://hss.tcnj.edu/resources/current-students/forms/
Online Internship Poster Gallery— Need help finding an internship for SOC 499 or as a stand-alone internship course (SOC 399)? Get ideas from internships our students have completed! https://sociology.tcnj.edu/internship-posters/
Drs. Borland and Gazley on academic year sabbatical: We wish Dr. Borland and Dr. Gazley well as they embark on a research sabbatical for Academic Year 2018-19. Those students who have Dr. Borland as an advisor will be temporarily reassigned a department faculty member for next year.
Notes from Department Chair, Dr. Shakow: My drop-in office hours this semester are Mondays 1:20-3:20, T/F 12:30-1:40. If you are thinking about studying abroad, writing a Senior Thesis, applying to graduate school, or applying to national fellowships in the near future, be sure to speak to your advisor as soon as possible! Also, did you know about the Arch Street Bones research opportunity? Check out page 5 & 6 for more information on this exciting project!

Sociology and
Anthropology
Registration for spring courses starts on Tuesday, April 3rd and runs
through Friday, April 13th. The Department of Sociology &
Anthropology looks forward to working with you as you plan your
schedule. This newsletter should help you prepare, but it is not a
substitute for an advising appointment. Please arrange to meet with your
major advisor before registration.

Before meeting with your advisor, review the HSS Advising Policy and your advising syllabus to know what is expected of you. Print and bring with you the following items to your meeting:
1. A tentative schedule of classes for Fall 2018
2. Your unofficial transcript from PAWS
3. Your academic requirements as listed on PAWS
**Remember that you must meet the following minimum grade requirement in the foundation courses before you may register for department core courses. You may register for core courses if you are currently enrolled in foundation courses, but be advised that your grades will be reviewed before the fall semester and if you do not meet the grade minimums, you will be de-registered from SOC301 or SOC302.

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor before registering for classes and if you have an advising hold, only your advisor can lift the hold once you have met with them. Drop by your advisor’s office to sign up for an advising appointment time. Sign-up sheets will be posted outside your advisor’s office. Please be on time for your appointment and review the HSS “Advising Syllabus” you received over email. If you are unsure who your advisor is, open your student account in PAWS and check the right-hand column under ADVISOR.
