Description:This course aims to give students a comprehensive overview of the different methods and
techniques used in the social sciences, especially sociology, in gathering data. The course is divided into two major parts: research design (including paradigms and ethics in research) and methods and techniques in data gathering. Contemporary and emerging techniques are explored to give the students a grasp of the current practices in the field, while giving heavy instruction on the more conventional types of doing research (e.g. survey, ethnography and qualitative interviews).
