ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First and foremost, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to all
who had provided us the possibility to complete the project, both of the video clip and
research report. A special gratitude to our Psychology lecturer, Mr. Shankar for giving
us the final project’s instruction, guidance and help when we are needed.
Then, we would like to acknowledge with much appreciation to Taylor’s
University for giving the permission to use the open space in campus as our location
to film the video clips.
Furthermore, a special gratitude to Wong Zhen Fai for being a responsible
team leader who has always been motivating the team in order to achieve the goals of
the project. Not to be forgotten, to the remaining members in the group – Bektur, Jia
Hui and Nurin, a special thanks to all of them for giving the ideas, efforts,
cooperation, tolerance towards each other and most importantly to work as a team.
Last but not least, many thanks to our family and close friends for giving
endless moral supports since Day 1 of the project, and who have been the constant
source of our inspiration during the preparation of the project. We are really
appreciative towards all the contributions that were given.
Thank you.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
In a group of 4, this project requires the students to conduct a social psychology
conceptual video clip and a depth research on how it is related to the real life
experience. This 3-5 minutes video must consists of materials and theories that have
been taught and discussed in class.
The concepts that we used for the video were non-verbal communication,
attraction, racism, confirmation bias and lastly, aggression.
The aim of incorporating these concepts into the video clip is to imply that the
societies in the whole wide world carry out their routines in such a way that is directly
or indirectly related to social psychologies. No matter in which field, such concepts
will still affect them and their perceptions towards things around them.

2.3 Procedure
i. Each member in the team was assigned with different roles. Jia Hui and
Bektur as the main actor and actress, James as Jia Hui’s father and Nurin as
Jia Hui’s friend.
ii. Get an appropriate setting to film the scene. This is necessary because we
wanted to portray/imitate the real life situations.
iii. Start filming the scene. Actor/actress must follow the script and dialogue that
has been composed (Appendix 1.0).
iv. Actor/actress must use the apparatus (Method 2.2) that has been discussed as a
group to make the scene more realistic.
v. Steps (i) to (iii) were repeated at different settings and with different materials
until we are satisfied.
vi. Combine all the scenes and edited them into one video clip.

3.0 DISCUSSION
3.1 Applied Theories
The video clip must consist of five materials or theories that have been taught and
learnt in the classroom. Each scene in the video clip carries its own theory and this
will be discussed further on.
First Scene
Theory: Non-Verbal Communication (Chapter 4)
Definition: Process of communication through sending and receiving wordless
(mostly visual) cues between people. This can be identified through the behaviour,
gestures, body movement and face expression that have been applied in one self.
Explanation: When Jia Hui’s item fall all over the place on the floor, Bektur bended
all the way down and tried to help Jia Hui. The act of bending down and collecting
the items were proofs that body movements, hand gestures and eyes gazing (non-
verbal communications) were applied in this situation. Next, when Bektur got Jia
Hui’s number phone, he was smiling widely, indicating that he is happy through his
facial expression without any words being said.
Bektur expressing himself through eye contacts and facial expressions.

Second Scene
Theory: Attraction (Chapter 10)
Definition: Attraction refers to the act or power of evoking interest in or liking for
something or someone (either romantic or social attractions).
Explanation: Due to physical attractiveness of both individuals, they were attracted
to each other. Physical attractiveness can be either the looks, the clothes, or other sort
of things. In this scene, Bektur was attracted to Jia Hui due to her pretty and cute face.
Bektur was attracted towards Jia Hui.
Physical attractiveness from both sides.

Third Scene
Theory: Racism (Chapter 7)
Definition: Racism is the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics
or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior
to another race or races. It is also a form of prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism
directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is
superior.
Explanation: As the father, James objected Jia Hui’s choice and her decision to have
a relationship with Bektur. In this video clip, James was being very racist when he
found out that Bektur was a Muslim. He showed his distaste towards Muslims when
he asked if Jia Hui and her future generations will also convert to Muslims. From the
question “have you seen the news, all the terrorist are muslims?” is also another proof
that James is being racist. He also went as far as using the word “foreigner” to
describe Bektur just because Bektur was a Muslim.
James was being racist towards Bektur.

Fourth Scene
Theory: Confirmation Bias
Definition: Confirmation bias (which also known as myside bias) is a tendency of an
individual to favor information that confirms their preconceptions or hypothesis
regardless of whether the information is true
Explanation: Nurin disapproved with Jia Hui’s idea to run away and get married with
Bektur. Nurin was questioning Jia Hui about her safety because they just met for a
few weeks but Jia Hui insisted on saying that Bektur was a nice person even though
they just not long ago and she hardly knows him at all. Together with that, Jia Hui
also gave evidence that Bektur had been taking care of her when she was sick. From
the scene, we can see that Jia Hui is having confirmation bias towards Bektur even
without considering Nurin’s opinion.
Jia Hui was biased towards the good of Bektur even though they just met a few weeks
ago and she barely knew him.

Fifth Scene
Theory: Aggression (Chapter 9)
Definition: Aggression is a type of behaviour that intends to harm another individual
either verbal or physical actions.
Explanation: In this last scene, Bektur proposed to Jia Hui. However, after having
her hand in marriage for about a month or so, Bektur started being aggressive both
mentally and physically. This can be seen as Jia Hui’s hands were covered with
bruises, and was squatting down at a corner with blade, rubbish and chair scattered
around with Bektur drinking a can of beer, indicating that domestic violence had
happened.
Bruises were seen on Jia Hui’s hands.
Domestic violence was implied.

3.2 Conclusion
The field of social psychology has no ends to it and the concepts we incorporated in
the video was just a very small part of it. As it is, the way of how people carry
themselves, their attitude and perceptions towards people and things are greatly
affected by it.

Have you ever been in love? Duh. But have you ever been in love with

sweet, naive. But what happens when she meets a charming and
attractive foreigner? Well things are about to get really messy.
First Scene
Bektur: Excuse me, when you feel just now, I fell for you too. And, this might
be weird but can I have your number?
Jia Hui: That’s a really bad pick up line but here you go.
Bektur: Thank you. I’ll call you later. Thank you
Second Scene
Bektur: Uh, hello? It’s me, we met yesterday. Uh, are you free on, let’s say,
this Friday?
Third Scene

Jia Hui: My boyfriend.
James: What boyfriend? *pause* How long you guys have been together?
Bektur: Uh, for one month now.
James: One month? And one month you didn’t tell me anything?
-
James: What are you again?
Bektur: I’m a muslim.
James: Muslim? *stares at Jia Hui* Are you going to convert to Muslim? Will
your son and daughter be a muslim? *shakes head* Did you read the
news? Do you know how all the terrorist today are all muslims? How
do you know that he’s not a terrorist? How do you know that he won’t
act like a terrorist? You’re dating an outsider.

Nurin: Yeah.

Nurin: I don’t know but he’s younger than you.

Are you sure that he can take care of you?
Jia Hui: He’s already taken good care of me for the past few weeks. He even
cooked me porridge when I was sick.
Nurin: Are you sure?
Jia Hui: Yes! I’m sure. He’s very kind. He wouldn’t even hurt a fly.
Nurin: Okay…
