President’s Report…

Hi everyone, Another wonderful night of rock and roll was enjoyed by all at our June dance, thanks to all our members, friends and visitors that came from as far as Adelaide to see the amazing band The Rousers. They are a great Melbourne band and have a truly clear sound and a very big following. The dance floor was packed all night long. I especially love their Mavericks songs with their great vocals and harmonizing and Latin style of music. It was nice to see some great cha cha RnR on the floor. Going off the applause you gave after every song I’m sure we will have them back again soon. Thanks Rousers! A big hello and goodbye to a lovely couple Ray and Julie Kairl that rang to ask if they could come to our Monday socials and Thursday lessons while they were over from Adelaide for a few weeks holiday. They had a great time meeting some new friends and chatting with members when they came to our dance. They also commented on how it was a very friendly and happy club with a great atmosphere. Farewell friends and we hope to see you in January for our festival. Party night was a hoot with ladies and gents trying on the clothing and buying pre-loved items at our very first rummage sale. It took a lot of setting up – thanks to Paul, Glenda, Janet, Warren, Lea and Noel for their help. It was a lot of fun and I’m sure we’ll have another one soon. Raelene was unable to come out on the night so Chris gave out the certificates to all that attended. A big thank you to Chris and Raelene for all your wonderful teaching skills. We started the third block of lessons on Thursday the 15th of June. Lessons start at 7pm so tell your friends to come along and join in. It’s a great way to meet people and have some fun learning rock and roll. The 2018 festival prep is well under way and we’ve now got some more people on the sub-committee. Welcome on board Lea and Noel Gillilands and Glenda Trainor. The people on our volunteer list will be contacted soon to confirm their commitment to helping us on during the festival. If there is anyone else who would like to be a part of our volunteer team for this monumental weekend PLEASE come forward as manpower (and womanpower!) is what makes our festival so successful. Our July dance promises to be a showstopper with a White Christmas theme. We have Jump ‘n’ Jive to entertain us. It’s also GJBR 19th birthday celebration so we’ll have some yummy cake for everyone. Bring some friends and join us for a great night’s entertainment and dancing. Don’t forget it’s a white theme so dress to impress. See you there! Also, if anyone can help to set up the Christmas decorations we could use about 10 people to help on Thursday 29th of June at 10am. If you could let me know if you can help – please ring 0402 447 687. Your help would be greatly appreciated as there are a lot of stage and ceiling decorations to put up for this special night. Thank you all. Keep on rockin’ Cass

Crepes Suzette

PREP + COOK TIME 1 HOUR 10 MINUTES (+ STANDING) SERVES 4

Ingredients Crepes

¾ cup plain flour 3 eggs

2 tblspns vegetable oil ¾ cup milk

Ingredients Orange Sauce

125g unsalted butter ½ cup caster sugar

1 ½ cups orange juice 2 tblspns lemon juice

1/3 cup orange flavoured liqueur

Method:

1. Sift flour into a medium bowl, make a well in the centre: add eggs and oil then gradually

whisk in milk until smooth. Pour batter into a large jug, cover; stand 1 hour.

2. Heat greased heavy based crepe pan or small frying pan; pour ¼ cup of batter into pan, tilting

pan to coat base. Cook, over low heat until browned lightly, loosening edge of crepe with

spatula. Turn crepe; brown other side. Remove crepe from pan; cover to keep warm. Repeat

with remaining batter to make a total of eight crepes, greasing pan each time.

3. Make orange sauce

4. Fold crepes in half, then in half again, place in sauce; warm over a low heat.

5. Remove crepes to serving plates; pour hot sauce over crepes. Serve with orange slices if

desired.

Orange Sauce:

Melt butter in large frying pan, add sugar; cook, stirring until mixture begins to brown. Add strained

juices; bring to the boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, about 3 minutes or until a golden colour.

Remove from heat; add liqueur, ignite.

Tips: Be very careful when igniting the sauce – use extra-long matches, available from supermarkets

or camping stores and make sure over-head exhaust fans are turned OFF. Igniting the sauce burns off

the alcohol, leaving a more intense flavour. If you prefer, the sauce can be served as is, without first

igniting it.

This wonderful retro recipe is from the Australian Women’s Weekly Retro Cookbook, a copy of

which will be part of the raffle at our July dance.

Line dance lessons will be held every second Monday from 7 till 7.30pm starting on the 29th of May

for a trial period of 2 months. Janet and Lea will be alternating teaching these classes with Janet

kicking things off on the 29th. This is a great opportunity to learn the steps to all those great line

dances that are so popular at all the clubs. Learning to line dance can also help improve your timing,

balance, memory and confidence making you a better dancer all round!

Membership: Just a reminder that as our membership year is the same as the financial year

memberships are due before the end of June. Warren and Paul have been busy as many of you

have been on the ball and got this sorted. This is a great opportunity to update your details.

Don’t forget you can pay by EFT: Bendigo Bank BSB 633 108 Acc: 107909723

Members Dinner Dance: While we are on the subject there will be a Members Only Dinner

Dance on Saturday the 2nd of September (see the notice in this newsletter) with the fabulous

Vincents. There will be a three course sit-down dinner beforehand at White Eagle which will be

heavily subsidised by the club. This dance will only be open to financial members so please

make sure you are paid up and financial as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. New

memberships should be submitted by our next committee meeting on the 18th of July to be

sure they are accepted in time. This will be a formal dance so it should be a wonderful evening

and a great excuse to wear your best dress ladies!

AGM: Wow, can’t believe it’s coming up to that time again! The AGM will be held on Monday

the 11th of September at 7pm at White Eagle House. Nominations will be accepted for the

positions of Vice President and Secretary which will become vacant. The club is also in need of

several ordinary committee members to help alleviate the work load on the executive

committee. It’s a big club with a lot of activities – one small group can’t do it all. It’s the old

many hands make light work thing. If you can help out please consider getting on board. Don’t

forget that you can’t be on the committee and you can’t vote at the AGM unless you are a

financial member.

Unfortunately there will be no Monday night socials on the 3rd of July and 4th of September due

to the hall being booked by the Polish Club.
