Hi again!

Thanks to social

networking we

are being put on the map

in Basilicata.

The fact that we are tuc-

ked away has been and is

still a main problem for

us in terms of connecti-

vity. The television had

for a long time bridged

this social and communi-

cation gap but thank God

now we have all these so-

cial networking systems

that virtually reduced the

distance between us and

the rest of the world.

The facebook was seen

and is still seen by some

of us as too much of an

invasion in our privacy

but considering the fact

that there are video came-

ras everywhere today do

we really have any pri-

vacy? Even if you go on

the Google Earth it will

show you an instant

photo of a specific street

and at that very moment

you can see cars and peo-

ple moving in and around

that street live though

the faces of the people

and the plate numbers of

the vehicles are blurred.

Some people think that

it is better the new gene-

ration spend their time

communicating with their

age mates and colleagues

all over the world ex-

changing ideas and ex-

pressing opinions on

social, political and cul-

tural matters rather than

getting passively brain-

washed by some sense-

less television

programmes such as

‘’Grande Fratello, or

Isola dei Stupid., Ooops,

sorry Isola dei Famosi

etc etc.

At least when you twit

with an age mate of yours

in Korea and compare the

way he or she spends the

free time with yours, this

might be a stimulating

aspect for you. It is su-

rely a way to have a win-

dow in to the rest of the

world. The language you

speak with your age mate

wherever both of you are

is just about the same.

Your views are different

and that is where you

learn from yourselves.

I personally would like

to have more time to

spend on connecting and

I really do envy the new

generation on this issue.

We had to write letters

and wait for weeks for

the letter to get to the de-

stination and wait some

other weeks to have a

reply. Yes, I do agree that

there is a stimulating

aspect in the ‘’waiting

factor’’ but today’s net-

working brings about an

immediate exchange of

ideas opinions and ex-

pands your range of

friends taking you be-

yond all borders. The

skype will even give you

an instant moving pictu-

res of yourselves and

your surroundings. What

a wonderful world!

We have seen how Ba-

rack Obama used these

means to woo the new ge-

neration and youths to

going to cast their votes

during the last presiden-

tial elections in America.

Whatever your age these

days if you are not in the

system you are literally

out and disconnected.

You would look like just

another alien in the world

of fast communication.

You are not cool.

The guy that started

the protest against Muba-

rak of Egypt used a sim-

ple lap-top and

networking to get the dic-

tator our of office. Just

connecting and gathering

people together to use

their brain and see how

they have been cheated to

date. Simple as that. The

uprising started and now

we should be looking to

a better future for the

youths of Egypt and Tu-

nisia and sooner, I sup-

pose, those of Libya as

well. That is just how far

the power of social net-

working can go. It can

help put a black president

into the White House as

much as send dictators

running for their life! The

best is yet to come.

Basilicata is fighting to

get itself known around

the world. Simple. Use

the social networking. It

cost just almost nothing!!

No need flinging finan-

cial resources in the

drain pipes and nothing

to do with politics and

power-sharing. Just con-

nectivity, reaching out to

those who don’t know we

even exist. There are

many people out there

who are looking for so-

mewhere calm, cool and

relaxing like our dear Re-

gion to pass a short break

or a long holiday. Let’s

go for them. Let’s use

these channels. Let’s

blog, twit and chat on the

facebook and even get

some videos on the You-

Tube about our beautiful

Lucania Just one aspect:

let’s get our infrastructu-

res in place otherwise

these same means can

have a boomerang effect

against the region blog

against us can simply kill

us.

In the meantime……

Sit back and

Enjoy
