How social media platforms can be used effectively to recruit new volunteers for programs, and 4. How to spread information quickly and easily. Social Media Philosophy: Why use social media? o Social media allows for the dissemination of information to large groups of people that may not be directly tied to an organization o The story of the CAC can easily be shared and it gives more life to the narrative o Gives different platforms where people from various backgrounds can be reached to volunteer and allows for a larger pool of volunteers to gain information about Community Action’s programs o Periphery audiences (such as relatives to potential Foster Grandparents and Retired Senior Volunteers) utilize these forms of communication and reaching them can help to recruit new volunteers o Social media allows for those that are already a part of the work that the CAC is doing to follow the progress of programs Social media is not scary! o Facebook and Twitter are user friendly ways to connect to large audiences (when used in an effective manner) and should not be shied away from by non-profit organizations such as the CAC

Social media allows for the dissemination of information to large groups of people that may not be directly tied to an organization The story of the CAC can easily be shared and it gives more life to the narrative Gives different platforms where people from various backgrounds can be reached to volunteer and allows for a larger pool of volunteers to gain information about Community Actions programs Periphery audiences (such as relatives to potential Foster Grandparents and Retired Senior Volunteers) utilize these forms of communication and reaching them can help to recruit new volunteers Social media allows for those that are already a part of the work that the CAC is doing to follow the progress of programs Social media is not scary! Facebook and Twitter are user friendly ways to connect to large audiences (when used in an effective manner) and should not be shied away from by non-profit organizations such as the CAC The story and function of the CAC and its programs are intergenerational and so is social media More and more there is a growing number of older individuals joining in on social media and this is important and easy way to reach them
