It’s during these early winter days, when the inn is especially quiet and relaxed, that I am reminded

what a remarkable place this is, even beyond the luxuries we have here at our Ocean Drive address.

Indeed, our surroundings encompass an island of intense natural beauty, and we are only minutes

from historic downtown Newport, both ever-changing with the New England seasons and affording

No place in the United States is more synonymous with the America’s Cup than Newport, which hosted the world’s most prestigious yachting race from 1930 - 1983. This summer, the spectacular waters of Narragansett Bay will play host to the final stop of the 2011-2012 America’s Cup World Series bringing the high intensity of America’s Cup sailing back to Newport and allowing a front row look at loaded, action-packed speed sailing with the new high-tech wingsailed catamarans. We begin the month of December with a weekend of celebrating cheese featuring Matt Jennings from Farmstead in Providence. Guests will partake in a cheese making demonstration with Chef Jennings followed by afternoon tea and a three-course dinner for two, featuring local cheeses and charcuterie with wine pairings. Matt Jennings, Executive Chef, Co-owner & Master Cheesemonger of Farmstead, has been handling, selling and falling in love with all things artisan since 1995 while at culinary school in Vermont. Since then, he has worked as a Chef across the country—from Nantucket Island to Lake Tahoe, California—and for numerous artisan cheese stores, wholesalers, and producers.

Each holiday season children are invited to bring their families and favorite teddy bear to enjoy Castle Hill’s signature high tea and listen to readings of children’s holiday classics. Families are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped teddy bear in original packaging to donate to Newport Child & Family Services. Teddy Bear Tea has become a favorite holiday event not only for the kids, but for the Castle Hill staff as well.
