raced past a sign that read,The Island of Ming. Dartingto the playground, he
discovered a key hanging
from a tree. He dashed tothe monkey bars and setall the monkeys free.

Their fun hadended, because Minghad arrived. Shesnatched the key from
Dee and locked themonkeys up again.She scolded them:No coconuts for

Ming approached Dee and said,
The first rule here is everything is mine and I wantyour boat! As Ming turned toward her new boat,clever Dee darted to the monkey bars and pickedthe lock, setting them free. Seeing more monkey
business, Ming ran around yelling. Dee dashed to hisbed, with a few brave apes, and pushed off to sea. 11

The children didnt defend their land.They explained that they had no leaderand would not fight.

Then I will be your leader! Dee said,and all the children cheered. Soon,
a celebration began.They built an emerald
statue and dancedall night.

King Dee retired to a cozy throne to relax
and count the stars. He thought he couldhear the strange sound of bubbles popping.

Dee thought quickly and made a plan. Fine, Mr.Sabagoo, Sir, he said. You can eat me and all my
monkeys, if you eat every star I can count.
The dragon smiled and laughed. Sabagoo was mighty
hungry and underestimated Dees counting ability.1

Dee crawled onto the dragons back, and they soaredinto the sky. As Dee counted, Sabagoo devoured starsin single gulps. Soon, Sabagoos belly grew heavy.I must rest, the dragon said. My wings are tired.

Sabagoo landed on a cloud and fell asleep.

In three rolls, Dee nudged the dragon over,and Sabagoo plummeted to the icy waters.
Sabagoo sank to the bottom,and Deewas safe.

parachute, Dee jumped and floateddown. Looking to the sky, Dee finishedcounting the remaining stars.
