The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Cast : Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson Director : Francis Lawrence

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire picks up where The Hunger Games

(2012) left off. By winning previous season, Katnis Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) are on the radar of the Capitol, for instilling a sense of hope among the oppressed people of Panem. Fearing the two may spark a rebellion, the Capitol decides to clip their wings and move them around like chess pieces.

If you like „grim dystopian sci-fi movies‟, Catching Fire is a spectacular „edge-of-the-seat‟ thriller, which is unnerving, emotionally intense and immensely engaging. Unlike most sequels, Francis Lawrence ensures that his installment is not just a remake.

This movie is strangely unsettling and uplifting at the same time. An early scene in the movie shows Katniss, sitting alone in a train compartment, staring out the window. She reminds you of a bird trapped in a cage. Its metaphors, unsaid emotions like these that make the movie brilliant. Catching Fire isn‟t a great work of art, but it‟s a competent, at times exciting movie and it does something that better, more artistically notable movies often fail to do.

30.What is the text mainly about?

A. The review of The Hunger Games:: Catching Fire movie. B. The plot of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. C. The good aspect of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie. D. The description of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie. E. The process how The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was made.

Floods Cause Chaos Across Greater Jakarta The floods returned on Wednesday after incessant rain hit the capital overnight,

forcing hundreds of residents to wade back to evacuation shelters. Unlike the recent flooding, more commercial districts and main thoroughfares

were affected by floodwater that snarled up traffic for several hours in the morning. The city police‟s Traffic Management Center (TMC) reported dozens of inundated locations.

The underpass of Cawang toll road from Halim heading to Rawamangun was under 60 centimeters of water, while in the Pondok Jaya area in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, floodwaters reached a depth of 100 centimeters. According to Hari Tirto, head of the meteorology information sub-directorate with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the flooding was a result of heavy rainfall that particularly hit downstream areas in West, East, Central and South Jakarta.

The intense rain was forecast to continue during the evening and into the next two days, he said.

According to data from the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) the number of evacuees rose by over 600 to 9,985 from 9,368 on Tuesday. They were spread throughout 21 sub-districts in 11 districts and were currently being looked after in 34 shelters.

The following text is for questions 37 to 40.

Local governments in developed countries provide their city with sidewalks. A sidewalk, or pavement, footpath, footway, and sometimes platform, is a path along the side of a road. Sidewalks are benefial connected to transportation, environment, road traffic safety, and health. One benefit of sidewalks is for transportation. Sidewalks play an important role in transportation, as they provide a safe path for people to walk along that is separated from the motorized traffic. In suburban areas, sidewalks help to provide equal access to people who cannot drive, notably children, the elderly and the economically disadvantaged. Another benefit of sidewalks is for environment. Sidewalks may have a small effect on reducing vehicle miles traveled and carbon dioxide emissions. A study of sidewalk and transit investments in Seattle neighborhoods found vehicle travel reductions of 6 to 8% and CO2 emission reductions of 1.3 to 2.2%. Road traffic safety also indicates the benefit of sidewalks. Research commissioned for the Florida Department of Transportation, published in 2005, found that, in Florida, the Crash Reduction Factor (used to estimate the expected reduction of crashes during a given period) resulting from the installation of sidewalks averaged 74%. Sidewalks promotes health, too. Since residents of neighborhoods with sidewalks are more likely to walk, they tend to have lower rates of cardiovascular disease, obesity, and other health issues related to sedentary lifestyles. Also, children who walk to school have been shown to have better concentration. In short, considering the advantages of sidewalks, government should make side walks in every town and city. Sidewalks have good impacts on transportation, environment, road traffic safety, and health.

How Planes Fly

A plane needs air pressure under their wings to stay up in the air. As they move forward, the higher air pressure underneath their wings pushes them upward and gives them lift.

The smooth, streamliner shape of the plane allows air to flow easily over its surface. This helps to reduce the drag caused by the air pushing against the place and allows it to move rapidly through the air.

Planes move forward using engines. This movement is called thrust. Moving forward keeps a stream of moving air passing over the wings, which allows the plane to stay up in the air. If the engine fails, the plane will begin to descend very quickly.

The air above the wings moves faster, so it is at a lower pressure that the air under the wing. The air under the wing moves more slowly and is slightly squashed, so it is at a higher pressure than the air above the wing.

41. What is the purpose of the text?

A. To inform how to operate a plane. B. To give a report about the plane engine. C. To explain how planes fly. D. To describe the wings of a plane. E. To introduce the technology used in a plane.

42. “. . . the plane will begin to descend very quickly.” (Paragraph 3)

What is the synonym of the underlined word? A. Climb B. Rise C. Drop

D. Arise E. Upturn

43.What can you infer from the text?

A. Air pressure pushes a plane upward. B. Planes only move forward using air pressure. C. A plane can move without engine. D. The air above the wing move slower than the air below it. E. The air pressure under the wing is higher than above the wing.

The following text is for questions 44 to 46.

Standardized test are defined by W. James Popham, former president of the American Educational Research Association. Originally, a standardized test was simply a standard test – of academic achievement or of knowledge in a specific academic or vocational domain. It has since acquired the meaning of a written test whose score are interpreted by reference to the scores of a norm. Standardized tests are widely used in education, placement, and certification. However, there are some debates regarding this test. Proponents argue that standardized tests are a fair and objective measure of student‟s ability that they ensure teachers and schools are accountable to taxpayers, and that the most relevant constituents – parents and students – approve of testing. Opponents say the tests are neither fair nor objective, that their use promotes a narrow curriculum and drill-like "teaching to the test," and that excessive testing undermines America's ability to produce innovators and critical thinkers. Although facing some resistance, the Department of Education and Culture keeps on conducting standardized tests for national examinations on the ground that they are objective measurement.

44.What is the text mainly about?

A. The benefits of standardized tests. B. The proponents of national exams. C. The opponents of standardized tests. D. The disadvantages of standardized tests. E. The controversies of standardized tests.
