Agreeing with a positive statement:so + auxilary+ subject
The auxilary needs to agree in tense with the verb of the original sentence:
Present Simple
I’m hungry→ So am I I like this song → So do I My mum likes this song → So does mine
Past Simple They loved the idea → So did we!
Modals He can swim → So can I!
Another possibility is using: TOO
He likes video games and I like them too
They love football and and I love it too
Me too!!
Agreeing with a negative statement: Neither + auxiliary+ subject
The auxilary needs to agree in tense with the verb of the original sentence: Present Simple
I’m not hungry→ Neither am I I don’t like this song → Neither do I My mum doesn’t like this song → Neither does mine
Past Simple They didn’t like the idea → Neither did we!
Modals He couldn’t swim → Neither could I!
Another possibility: Either
I won’t pass my test and…You won’t either (always uses the verb in the negative)
Neither will you
I didn’t do my homework and…You didn’t either. Neither did you.
Me neither!
