What do teens really think of …
The 31st of October is Halloween. It’s the third most popular festival in Britain, after Christmas and Easter. But what do children in Britain really think about it? And what do they do?

CROWN: What other Halloween traditions do you do? Esmee: Every year we make a Jack-o’-Lantern: We buy a pumpkin and cut off the top and scoop* out the inside. Next we place a candle inside the pumpkin and put the pumpkin on the front doorstep*. I like telling scary stories with my friends too!

CROWN: Do you wear a costume at Halloween? Matilda: I rarely dress up, but sometimes I wear a witch’s costume and a witch’s hat.
CROWN: What other Halloween traditions do you do? Matilda: We always have a Halloween party. We dance and watch horror movies. We rarely do traditions like apple-bobbing* – it’s only for little kids. We sometimes play tricks when we go trick or treating, like we put an egg through the front door of the house!

CROWN: Do you like Halloween? Lizzie: I REALLY love Halloween!
CROWN: Do you wear a costume at Halloween?Lizzie: I sometimes dress up. I wear a black cat costume with ears and a tail.
CROWN: What other Halloween traditions do you do? Lizzie: I still go trick or treating – but with my little sister, it’s a tradition for young kids. We usually go to houses in our street, but only to the houses with pumpkins outside. We get lots of chocolate and sweets, but sometimes old people give us oranges! But we never play tricks on people – that’s horrible!
Score: 10/10
