SUPPLIES:Embroidery Thread:• Use the same embroidery thread in the bobbin as the needle.Needles:• Use an Organ 80/12 Titanium needle for extended needle

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS1. Hoop two layers of water-soluble stabilizer.2. Attach the hoop to the machine and select the design of

your choice.3. Stitch the design.4. Remove the hoop from the machine and the design from the

hoop. Trim excess stabilizer from the design.5. Rinse away remaining stabilizer and allow it to dry.

HANDY HINTS:For Stiffer Lace:• DO NOT RINSE away all of the stabilizer for a

“stiffer” lace. However, do note that the thread may appear a shade darker if stabilizer is not removed completely.

• If you happen to wash too much out, easily re-stiffen by diluting some stabilizer scraps in water and dipping the item in the solution.

For Very Soft Lace:• Cut away excess stabilizer. Remove remaining stabilizer

by rinsing under warm running water until all traces of the stabilizer are gone.

• Note: If lace should become too limp to work with, dissolve stabilizer scraps in warm water and apply to the lace.

Drying Lace:• Lay lace piece with right side down to dry. This will

minimize the tendancy for the lace to curl.

Handy Tips:• A pair of tweezers, hemostats, stiletto or a tiny crochet hook can be extremely helpful when inserting the

buttonettes into the eyelets. (Please see Photo 01 for explanation of “buttonette” and “eyelet”.)• Insert the tip of the tweezers, hemostats or crochet hook into the eyelet, grasp the buttonette and pull

through the eyelet.• A Stiletto could be used to “push” the buttonette through the eyelet.• Thelacelooksbestwhenleftfairlystiff.Whenthedesignisfinishedstitching,washthedesignlightlyso

that some of the water-soluble stabilizer stays in the design. It is better to hold the lace gently and allow the watertoflowthroughratherthanworkingatitorscrubbingthelace.

• If item becomes too limp to work with, dissolve scrap pieces of water-soluble stabilizer in warm water and apply to the item to re-stiffen.

• Alternatively you can iron the appliqué pieces on the wrong side while applying spray starch. After ironing, spray again with starch and allow to dry completely. This will stiffen the lace pieces nicely and aid in construction.

Snowflake EleganceTable Runner Instructions

FabricsThis project is a great way to use up scraps. Just make sure you have enough of each color to cut the pieces listed. If you are buying fabric, use the yardages listed⅓ yard Dark Purple Fabric

Cut 3 pieces 15" by 11"1 fat quarter green fabric Cut 3 pieces 2" by 11" Cut 1 piece 3" by 11"1 fat quarter pink plaid fabric Cut 1 piece 5" by 11" Cut 1 piece 4" by 11"1 fat quarter hot pink fabric Cut 1 piece 4.5" by 11" Cut 1 piece 5.5" by 11"½ yard light purple fabric (true width must be at least 41") Cut to 41" by 11"

Step One: Embroider The Fabric1. Hoop a piece of dark purple fabric (15" by 11") with a single sheet of medium weight tear away in a large hoop.

Embroider design 12429-09.2. Remove the hoop from the machine and the fabric from the hoop.

Tear away the excess stabilizer and press.3. Trim this piece to 8" by 11", centering the design. Tip: Fold the fabric

in half lengthwise. Trim 4" from the fold widthwise. Unfold, then fold again the other direction and trim to 5.5" from the fold. See Image 01.

4. Hoop another piece of dark purple fabric with a single layer of medium weight tear away. Embroider design 12429-22.

5. Tear away excess stabilizer. Trim this piece to 8" by 11" as with the first design.

6. Hoop the third piece of dark purple fabric with a single layer of medium weight tear away. Embroider design 12429-26.

7. Tear away excess stabilizer. Trim this piece to 2" by 11".

Supplies• Medium weight tear-away stabilizer (3 pieces large

enough for a large hoop)• Water soluble mesh stabilizer (2 pieces large enough for a

large hoop, or four pieces for a medium hoop)• Bobbin thread• White embroidery thread• 2 buttons• 2 ¼ yards wide white ric-rac• Temporary adhesive spray or temporary adhesive tape

Tools and Accessories• Rotary cutter and mat• Quilt ruler • Edge-stitch foot• Button sew-on foot (optional, hand needle and thread

may be used)• Large embroidery hoop• Iron

Step Two: Embroider the Free-Standing Lace1. Hoop two layers of Mesh Wash Away stabilizer in a large hoop. Thread your machine with the same white polyester

embroidery thread in the top and the bobbin.2. Embroider design 12429-01 twice in the same hoop, making sure to move the designs so they do not overlap. You can

also stitch one of each design separately in two hoopings.3. Rough-cut the excess stabilizer around the designs. Wash away the excess stabilizer with warm running water. Set aside

to dry.

Step Three: Assemble the Table Runner Top1. Lay out your table runner pieces according

to the diagram shown in Image 02.2. Starting from left to right, sew each piece

to the next piece with a ¼" seam along the long edge.

3. When you have sewn all the pieces together, press the seams to one side.

Step Four: Sew the Back onto the Table Runner1. Place the 41" by 11" piece of fabric right sides together with your table

runner. The back should be slightly longer than the front on both ends.2. Pin in place.3. Stitch the front to the back by sewing a ¼" seam down each long side.

Leave the short ends open.4. Trim any excess back fabric so the front and back of the table runner

are the same length.5. You will now have a long tube. With the tube still wrong sides out,

press the two side seams, making sure not to put a permanent crease into the backing fabric as you do so. This will make a crisper edge when you turn the project right side out. See Image 03.

6. Turn the tube right side out.7. Press well along side seams. See Image 04.

Step Five: Topstitch the Table Runner and Add Ric-Rac.1. Fold in each open end of the table runner approximately ½" and press well.

See Image 05.2. Using an edge-stitching foot, topstitch approximately ⅛" from the edge of the

runner along all four sides. See Image 06.3. Cut two pieces of ric-rac approximately 40" long. (Measure against your finished table runner.)4. Lightly spray the back of the ric-rac with temporary adhesive spray or affix a temporary adhesive/iron-on tape (such as

Steam-A-Seam 2).5. Place the ric-rac

pieces onto the runner so they run ¼" from the edge of the runner. See Image 07. Iron in place if using iron-on tape.

6. Stitch down the center of each piece of ric-rac to secure it to the table runner. See Image 08.

7. Zig Zag over each end of the ric-rac to prevent fraying. See Image 09.

Step Six: Attach the free-standing snowflakes.1. Determine where you want to place your free-

standing snowflakes. Snowflakes will be tacked to the table runner with a button, so lay out both the lace pieces and the buttons and then mark the center of the placement with a water-soluble pen. See Image 10.

2. Using a button sew-on foot or hand needle and thread, stitch the snowflakes and buttons to the table runner See Image 11.

Your table runner is now complete! Enjoy your colorful centerpiece all season long.
