The NSPCC Snowdon Moonlight Challenge is now 4 weeks away, and we hope that you are well

under way with your training, fundraising and overall preparation. To help you make those final

plans, and to get a better idea of what to expect on the challenge itself, please read this document

carefully and make a note of the key timings.

TRAVELLING TO THE STARTThe challenge will start/finish at the NSPCC Village which is located at Camping In Llanberis, Ceunant Street, Llanberis,Caernarfon, LL55 4SR. Please Click Here to be redirected to a map showing the location of the start.

Adding Extras to Your Booking

Throughout this final event guide we will be referring to services that are available to book as added extras, includingtransfers to and from London, camping, transfers to Bangor Station and dinner. All of these extras must be pre-booked,so if you want to add anything else to your booking then the deadline to do this is Friday 26th August. To amend yourbooking, simply log back into your registration by clicking here, select the extras you want to book, and then pay for itby card through our online system.

Parking

If you are travelling by car, there is no parking at the NSPCC Village, so please park in the Royal Victoria Car Park, justoff the A4086 (LL55 4TU) which is free of charge for the duration of the challenge. You will not need a parking permit,just drive straight in. From here there will be a shuttle bus running regular trips to the start location, which is a 5 minutesbus ride away. This service will be available from midday until midnight on Saturday.Trains

The nearest train station is Betws-Y-Coed which is a 30 minute taxi ride or a 40 minute bus ride away from the NSPCCVillage. If you are catching the bus, please use the Snowdon Sherpa S2. Alternatively, trains also arrive into Bangortrain station, which is also a 30 minute taxi ride or 40 minute bus - you would need to catch the 85/86 which will stop inLlanberis.

NSPCC VILLAGE

We look forward to welcoming all challengers to the NSPCC Village, set in a stunning location at

the foot of Mount Snowdon. The NSPCC and Action Challenge team will be on hand throughout

the weekend so please do come and introduce yourself to us so we can assist you.

Coach - pre booked only

If you are joining the coach from London, this will be departing from Action Challenge offices, United House, North Road,London, N7 9DP - the nearest station is Caledonian Road on the Piccadilly Line. The coach will depart at 8am so pleasearrive at 7:45am so that we can leave on time. This means we will arrive in Snowdonia at approximately 2:30pm, in timefor the warm up trek at 3pm. After the challenge, the coach will depart at 11am, arriving back to the Action Challengeoffices at approximately 5:30pm. The price is £59 and can be booked through your registration form. On arrival at thecoach, we will have a list of everyone who has booked this option - so just bring your e-ticket for the event, you will notbe sent a separate coach ticket.

Camping - pre booked only

● The campsite will open for all campers at midday on Saturday 17th September.● Action Challenge will be on hand when you arrive to show you to your assigned tent or pitch. If you are using an

Action Challenge tent, this will already have been put up for you with a roll mat inside. If you are bringing your owntent, you are responsible for putting your own tent together.

● There are toilets and showers on site for you to use, but please note a shower costs £1 for 7 minutes and onlyaccepts £1 pound coins.

● You will only be able to use the campsite if you have booked it in advance - just follow the steps on page 1. Thecost is £15 if you bring your own tent, or £25 to have your tent provided.

Warm Up Hike

● All participants are invited to join us at 3pm on Saturday 17th for a warm-up hike around the base of Snowdon.● The group will meet at 14:25 in NSPCC Village, and will be a 3 mile walk around the Llanberis countryside.● The walk will be led by our Mountain Leaders and is a great chance to talk with them about the route up Snowdon,

as well as stretching your legs ahead of the walk to the summit!

Dinner - pre booked only

● Dinner will be at 7pm in the NSPCC Village, and will be vegetarian and non-vegetarian lasagna with a mix of hotand cold accompaniments.

● The meal costs £10 and can be booked through your registration form.● Dietary requirements can be catered for if we are made aware in advance.

Registration

● Registration will be open from midday on Saturday until 1:00am on Sunday, and will be located in the NSPCC Village.● ALL participants must register to collect your Event Pack, which contains your bib number and safety pins.

The Start!

● There will be a range of facilities including complimentary tea & coffee, a midnight ‘breakfast’ and toilets● Whilst there will be water at the start to fill up your water bottles, please bring at least 2 litres of water with you● All trekkers will set off together at 2am after a warm up and safety briefing at 1:30am.● Please note: You will not be allowed to start the challenge early

This brilliant hiking challenge will see you conquering the

highest mountain in Wales. Trek through the night and

experience the fantastic scenery as you approach the

peak for a sunrise summit!

Walking in Groups

● To ensure safety whilst walking on the mountain, after the first2km of the walk, you will be put in groups based on pace.

● Each group will be led by one of our Mountain Leaders.

Support on the mountain

Safety of participants on the mountain is our highest priority and allour guides are experienced Mountain Leaders. They will be on handto provide assistance to all of our challengers so do let us know if youneed any help. In the event of bad weather, your Mountain Leader willbe able to advise if cut off times are being enforced.

Event phone numbers

Should you need any assistance while you are on the challenge itself, we will have an emergency number on the daywhich we will ask you to save onto your phones when you register. When using your mobile phone during the challenge,please keep an eye on your battery level in case you do need to use it to contact the event team. Some apps can drainyour battery quickly, so please bear this in mind.

Please note, there is limited signal on parts of the mountain, but our leaders will have satellite phones should we needto contact our main control back at the NSPCC Village.

Event Rules

There aren’t too many rules – but the ones we do have are important to keep you safe. Please make sure youfamiliarise yourself with all the rules prior to the Challenge, and detailed below are the important ones:

● As the route will not be signed, you must walk with our guides to ensure you remain on the route● Your Bib Number must be worn at all times● Participants must ensure they are adequately hydrated, fed and rested before commencing the Event and report

any concerns to an Event Medic or Mountain Leader. If, in the opinion of an Event Medic, a participant isconsidered unfit to complete the challenge that participant will be excluded as necessary

● Participants must carry a mobile phone with them● You must follow the country code at all times and close all gates behind you● All litter must be kept on your person until you return to the NSPCC Village where you can use the bins provided● This event is not catered for runners - it is a hiking event

● If you need to exit/drop out of the challenge, please inform Event Staff and let them know you will not becontinuing and you will be returned back to base camp.

FINISH LINE

At the finish you’ll get a very warm welcome! Once you’re ready there will be teas and coffees available, brunch buffetand plenty of space for a rest.

Return Journey

● For those who are pre-booked onto the coach back to London, this will depart at 11am and the Action Challengeteam will make announcements with the appropriate meeting point.

● We will be running a minibus shuttle service to/from Bangor train station for £5 per person on a first-come-first-servebasis. Please note, this service is only available on the Sunday after the challenge - it is not available before thechallenge on the Saturday. Please ensure you have pre-booked this service on your registration form.

● If you are driving home, it is vital you get some sleep before you start your journey as you will be tired from thechallenge. Please ensure you have plenty of rest prior to your departure and take numerous stops en route.

WHAT TO DO NEXT?

Remember your kit & check the weather

Don’t forget essential items of your kit – pack 2 days before the event and refer to our Challenge Kit List - you can findit on the last page of this guide. Check the weather 2 days before the challenge to ensure you have everything coveredcome rain or shine – and keep an eye on it. The correct footwear is absolutely essential – and if it’s wet / muddy – theyneed to be waterproof!

Please note: You MUST have your own head torch. You will not be allowed to take part without this.

Power up!

If you are planning on keeping your phone turned on throughout the challenge to Facebook & Tweet, we stronglyrecommend you invest in a power charger (to ensure you always have battery should an emergency arise) – these canbe found for as little as £20 and will keep your phone going throughout the challenge!

Below is a guide line for the kit & equipment you should bring with you on the challenge.

Please note we do not carry out kit checks, the below is just what we advise, it is

up to you to choose what you think you will need.
