This is the opening sequence of Smokin’ Aces, a film released in 2007. The colours used are typical of the genre with black being an important colour here. Some of the iconography here is also typical of the genre with cigarettes, gambling and guns having a pivotal role in the sequence. The narrative of the sequence is a group of men who are at one of their haunts doing the things you’d expect the main characters of a film to be doing – smoking, being involved in the crime and gambling – as mentioned before. Again the locations are typical because it is a social gathering where the people can do what they want as they seem to be able to do what they want. The characters as mentioned before meet the criteria of a film noir because of their habits and what they look like – in suits or oher smart clothing mostly. The sound we hear is a song that has a sort of jazz

sound – a kind of music that was popular in the USA in the 50’s (Film Noir’s conventional time setting). There are two different songs that we hear but they do both fit this genre of music and therefore fit the genre of film that it is.
