Successful Observation and Feedback
• Observe at a safe distance.• Stop any imminent danger! • Start with the positives – R+• Show Concern• Ask:
- “Why?”- “How can we do this differently?”- “How can I help?”
Your Role in SMAT
Senior Leaders:
• Conduct one SMAT (Observation and Feedback) each time you visit a Branch
• Share SMAT with the Branch for problem solving at the next “Safety Huddle”
Your Role in SMAT
Branch Team Members:• Five (5) Observations per branch/month• Will be prompted by “Safety Playbook”• Actively participate in the observation with the observer• Active discussion and feedback• Be open to coaching of observed “AT RISK” behaviors • Review each SMAT Observation at “Safety Huddles” and
problem solve.• Participate in correcting safety issues that arise
SMAT
Barriers to success?• Arguments• Not wanting to be observed• Consistency• Association with discipline
Future Expansion• Develop proactive metrics (# SMATs, Corrective Actions, etc,)
Any questions?????
