MISSION: Fort Worth Christian is a Christ-centered, college preparatory school where every student is known, loved, and valued, taught excellence

in and out of the classroom, and empowered by a biblical worldview.

Current and future FWC families,

If the spring of 2020 taught us anything, it demonstrated FWC offers families excellence in education while preserving our warm and welcoming FWC community. When you are a Cardinal, you are FAMILY!

We are looking forward to opening on August 12 in a safe and dynamic on-campus classroom experience. We will also stand ready for engaging online learning. No matter what, no matter where, we are committed to pursuing our vision of every FWC student being prepared for a life of faith, service, and leadership for Christ.

Our students are taught excellence in and out of the classroom and empowered by a biblical worldview. We are ready for whatever happens. We want you here. Your child will have the opportunity to excel at FWC.

Dr. Misty Overman, FWC Head of School

FACE (ON-CAMPUS LEARNING):

We are eagerly anticipating seeing our students’ faces on August 12th here on our campus!

As we return to campus, we will engage your child in a new learning model to prepare them for any learning environment they face in the future. Our faculty continue to embrace dynamic teaching and learning strategies gained in summer professional development opportunities and faculty training. While some things will be different, every experience will be thoughtfully executed and consistent with the core values of FWC!

While most students will be on campus, we are offering the opportunity for students to learn via the FLEX option (online learning). Such arrangements must be approved by the school to ensure student success and the effective use of faculty resources.

Excelling in a classroom environment, yet with faculty always learning and growing in order to prepare every student for a changing world around us.

FUSION (BLENDED LEARNING):

This is most often going to be a situation mandated by the government or deemed essential campus-wide by the administration. In our FUSION model, we will continue enjoying the benefits of some face-to-face instruction, but also utilizing a variety of tools and resources we use in the online learning environment. A specific FUSION scenario might be if Governor Abbott says our school can re-open but at 50% capacity. In such a scenario, it might involve having some students on campus certain days, and another group of students coming in on alternating days. The transition should be relatively seamless because even in our FACE-to-FACE environment, we are still utilizing online and digital tools in a 21st-century learning environment. While a student’s time will be divided between our campus and at home, the learning will continue, allowing your child the opportunity to excel!

Campus-wide FUSION scenarios will vary according to specific situations and thus will be explained in further detail as the need arises.

Excelling in a blended learning environment, where teachers teach and students thrive by learning with a robust combination of online resources and in-person instruction.

FLEX (ONLINE LEARNING): This is a scenario closely resembling what we experienced during the spring - but even better! While FWC parents gave our staff 4 and 5 stars (out of 5) for their execution of this emergency virtual learning environment, we have continued to learn! Teachers are spending their summer growing with new paradigms, tools, and resources to ensure our students excel in an online learning environment.

We will continue to provide an appropriate blend of asynchronous and synchronous learning. Students will grow in independent learning (a great future preparatory skill) while also having the benefit of consistent time with teachers and other classmates utilizing Zoom, Google Classroom, or other platforms to help ensure your child the opportunity to excel academically, socially, and spiritually! Even more attention will be put on each student’s well-being because we want them to feel known, loved, and valued . . . no matter what, no matter where!

FLEX: ONLINELEARNING

Individual students who are approved for a FLEX learning environment (while most other students are on campus) may have a unique FLEX experience than if the entire campus is learning online. Our teachers will

explore every way to ensure individual students learning online can engage with other on-campus students. While this can create daunting challenges in classroom dynamics, we want those who choose this option to

be known, loved, and valued just as those with whom we interact face-to-face.

FWC’S RETURN TO ON-CAMPUS LEARNING 2020-21A SAFE RETURN FACE-TO-FACE

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU:

FWC is committed to wise and prudent measures in considering the safety and health of all who step foot onto our campus. The counsel of voices responsible for this plan prioritize the

creation of both a safe physical environment, but also an optimal learning environment, including academic, social,

emotional, and spiritual growth and well-being.

But since you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you —

see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

A “TYPICAL” DAY WHEN WE ARE FACE-TO-FACE ON OUR CAMPUS

Arrive on campus, having completed your weekly digital health assessment prior to coming to school. Temperature checks will be required to help us monitor and maintain a healthy environment. Students will be encouraged to go directly to their classroom or designated space if their classroom is not available.

Lower School students will remain in their homeroom. Teachers will rotate rather than the students. Middle School is designing a flexible and nimble schedule allowing health and safety guidelines to be followed while at the same time increasing the vibrant student learning community experience. Upper School students will follow their individual schedule and will change classes throughout the school day while wearing their face covering.

The health of our students and staff is our priority in all aspects of school including Chapel, Fine Arts, Athletics, other extra and co-curricular activities, and our lunch program with Chef Lance and his team. We are committed to excellence and fostering an environment where every student is known, loved and valued.

Lots of hand washing and hand sanitizer!

INCREASED SANITIZING AND CLEANING AROUND CAMPUS

FACE COVERINGS & DESK GUARDS - “GET UP, MASK UP”

• Alpine Building Maintenance has been a long-time janitorial partner with FWC on keeping our facilities safe and as germ-free as possible.

• Alpine uses hospital-grade disinfectants that kill 99.9% of all germs including COVID-19. Alpine custodians follow CDC guidelines while cleaning to ensure the killing of germs on high contact areas.

• Alpine uses Electrostatic Disinfecting Sprayers that produce a static electric charge in the disinfecting droplets that cling to surfaces and envelop them.

• 63 hand sanitizing dispensers are installed across campus and hand sanitizer bottles are readily available.

• Faculty and students will consistently sanitize personal spaces.

• Students will be required to wear face coverings while in community spaces such as hallways, the cafeteria, the Cardinal Store, weight rooms, locker rooms, gymnasiums, and traveling from class to class, including outside.

• Face coverings may be removed once seated and while eating lunch. • Students may be asked to wear their face covering if working in a small group setting or

closely with a teacher. • All faculty will wear face coverings (a mask or a clear face shield) while teaching if unable to

distance 6 feet from students.• When masks are not possible or interfere with instruction, other measures like physical

distancing and plexiglass desk shields may be employed.

Face coverings are recommended to be blank or limited to positive or encouraging words/graphics. Administration in each division will reserve the right to ask a student or staff member to trade their

personal mask for a blank or FWC branded mask.

MAINTAINING A STRONG AND HEALTHY COMMUNITY

PHYSICAL DISTANCINGLimiting face-to-face contact with others is the best way to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Coronaviruses can be spread when people with the virus have close, sustained contact with people who are not infected. This typically means spending more than 15 minutes within two arms length of any one person, such as talking to someone or working on a group project.

In addition to efforts on-campus, you are encouraged to limit close contact with others outside your household in indoor and outdoor spaces. Physical distancing is especially important for people who are at higher risk for severe illness.

CAMPUS-WIDE VALUES

• PRIORITIZE EVERYONE’S HEALTH AND SAFETY

• OPTIMIZE FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

• COMMIT TO HOLISTIC WELL-BEING

• BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

• ENSURE YOUR CHILD WILL BE KNOWN, LOVED, AND VALUED

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS“What happens if . . . ?”

WITHOUT SYMPTOMS WITH A POSITIVE TEST: If a student tests positive without symptoms, they must stay home in isolation for ten days. They may not return to school until the mandatory ten day isolation period elapses. After ten days, they may return to school with a doctor’s release.

COVID-LIKE SYMPTOMS WITH OR WITHOUT A POSITIVE TEST: Student may not return to school until they are fever-free for three days and respiratory symptoms have improved, and ten days since the first onset of the symptoms. We require a doctor’s release verifying a return to school after the aforementioned criteria are met.

IF A PARENT OR SOMEONE ELSE IN THE HOUSEHOLD OF AN FWC STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 OR IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TESTED: Student(s) should quarantine for 14 days. The student may return after 14 days unless they become symptomatic with COVID-19 symptoms. Please see the above requirements in the COVID POSITIVE TEST criteria.

IF A FACULTY MEMBER TESTS POSITIVE: Students in their class would only need to be quarantined if they have been in close contact (within six feet for more than fifteen minutes) with the teacher. Teachers will be instructed to wear their face covering/shield while communicating in close proximity (within six feet for more than fifteen minutes) with students.

GUIDELINES FOR MANDATORY QUARANTINE: If your student has a classmate who tests positive for COVID-19, they may need to be quarantined if they were in close contact as defined by the CDC: less than six feet for more than fifteen minutes. In this scenario, not every student may require quarantine; however, any student who had close contact would be expected to stay home for fourteen days. Parents have the option to keep students home for the 14-day quarantine. In this situation, your student may be able to continue their schooling via online learning (FLEX) under the guidance of their teacher(s).
