SMART-SPACE – D.T3.3.10 Pilot action in France-Auvergne Rhône-Alpes addressed to SMEs

Executive Summary

One of the main goal of SMART-SPACE Project is to implement capacity building actions for SMEs. Economic, industrial and structural disparities among Alpine areas require local pilots to collect and harmonize as many elements and disparities as possible and reach an Alpine vision.

This document summarizes Pilot Actions conducted in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (France). The pilot actions mainly addressed SMEs from the manufacturing industry.

The workshop was a collective action. The goal of this workshop was to provide:

Information to better understand what is the IoT

(challenges, goal, and concepts) and how these

technologies can improve manufacturing

monitoring and processes.

Information about existing funding opportunities

and supports to test or implement these IoT

solutions

The participants were very satisfied to have the opportunity to present their competences/products or services link to Industry 4.0 subject. And the other participants were very interested by identify the regional companies or laboratories which could be provide technologies or services useful for their industry 4.0 projects. The networking is a really added value of this kind of event.

Write a short summary of the pilot actions. What are the learnings?

The pilot action were divided in two parts. The first part, corresponding to individual supports, allowed to propose to 14 regional structures including 7 SMEs to present their competences/products/services link to Industry 4.0 subjects. To prepare the pitches we provided individual support for each of them by providing a pitch deck (with the main information expected) and the possibility to exchange (especially for the SMEs) on their draft presentation. Indeed we provided advices to improve the impact of their pitch. The pitches were 5 minutes limited each. The pitch were a good and useful exercise to be able to present their company and their offer in few minutes but with the main messages to convince potential partner. We tried to introduce transnational aspect by inviting 1 swiss SME and a Belgian SME to participate. We integrated also presentations in link with European projects and opportunities to European partnerships. The second part was the collective part: the event during pitches were delivered. The participants were very interested by identify the regional companies and laboratories able to provide us services and competences in the scope of industry 4.0. The networking aspect of this kind of event is difficult to assess but very appreciated by all the participants.

was complementary to the existing regional supports on Industry 4.0.The missing step at regional level was a digital maturity assessment of the company and the associated action plan. Eval’Industrie 4.0 was developed to provide 2,5 days of support by specialised consultants in Industry 4.0 transition. The consultants were chosen after a call of tender. 4 consultants were selected. The goal of Eval ‘industrie 4.0 was to allow the SMEs to assess their maturity concerning digitisation and Industry 4.0 and to identify the main actions to implement to initiate or reinforce their evolution toward the Industry 4.0.

Eval’Industie 4.0 was composed of:- Digital maturity assessment including technical

aspects organisation aspects, human resources

aspects.

- Identification of actions to launch or to reinforce

Industry 4.0 transition

- Propositions of tools or existing supports to use to

implement these actions.

After the 2,5 days of support, a matching committee, composed of Auvergne Rhone-Alpes Entreprises, Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region (economic development department), digital regional agency, were organised. During this committee, consultant provided feedback on the individual supports and on the propositions provided. The goal of the committee was to enrich the propositions done if necessary.

When and where did the pilot action take place? What was the agenda?

Date, location, agenda,…

Eval’Indusrtie 4.0 individual supports were provided from January to October 2019.

The most of companies were very satisfied by the support provided, especially by the action plans proposed.

Write a short summary of the pilot actions. What are the learnings?

The individual support was very appreciate and was a missing step at regional level. The goal of this pilot action were to test a kind of support which didn’t exist at our regional level and to evaluate if it was relevant. The results obtained showed a high degree of satisfaction of SMEs and a relevant connections with regional existing supports on Industry 4.0.Indeed a large part of supported SMEs (by Eval’Industry 4.0) were orientated towards regional tools to implement the proposed action plan. After all Eval’industry.4.0 support, we have organised committee with representative of regional council to have a

detailed feedback from the provided supports from consultants. It appears that kind of support were very interesting as a first step toward industry 4.0 actions. After these committee, regional council decided to integrate this kind of support in their industry of the future plan for the 2 next years.

3. Conclusion

In the frame of this pilot action we proposed different kind of support to allow SMEs to improve their digitization.

Collective events or workshops, focus on technologies or on management of human resources, allowed to raise awareness of SMEs on this subject and to provide examples on how to implement digital technologies in their industrial processes or products.

Pitching event and brokerage event were organized to improve the connexion and the links between solution providers and industrial SMEs. This kind of networking event were very appreciate to identify potential future partner or supplier. This kind of event were composed of individual supports to prepare the participation to the event and collective parts.

The Individual supports “Eval’industrie 4.0” were the more added value support proposed in the frame of this pilot action. The 2,5 days of support by experts were very relevant and fruitful for the industrial SMEs. The Regional Council, at the end of these actions, decided to finance this individual support for the 2 next years, in the frame of the regional plan of the industry of the future.

As presented in the introduction, activities proposed in the frame of pilot action allowed to reach 78 regional SMEs including 25 individual supports.
