TOPIC: MOVEMENT, CREATING SPACE, POSSESSION 1. Team 1 has 5 players and plays end to end. There is a GK at each end. 2. Team 2 has 4 players and plays side to side (widthways across the pitch). There is a Target Player on each side. 3. This is a game of 5v4 within the designated area. Only 1 ball is in play between both teams. 4. The team in possession of the ball must reach the other side of their area (end or side of the pitch respecSvely) to score a point. 5. The team without the ball must try to win the ball back. 6. Encourage players to move from triangle to triangle when passing and receiving the ball and replace the player that has just leL the space in another triangle. P: Add target players to main area. Now ask both teams to play from GK to GK. Making the area Sghter with more pressure on the ball. SuggesSon: When player makes a pass he must leave his triangle.

TOPIC: PROBLEM SOLVING Coach decides on how they score eg volley but does not tell the players Players p,ay the game, every Sme they score the coach will tell them goal or no goal. If one team work it out they do not tell the other team, try to hide the method of scoring. P: same as above game but now you tell one team what the method is Play a series of games of a certain Sme The opposiSon has that Sme to work it out and then cut the deficit

TOPIC: TEAM SHAPE UNDERSTANDING 4v4 format musc Every player has 2 quarters that they can play in Defender #1 leL and right cannot cross the half way line. LeL mid #2 up and down, cannot cross over to the opposite side of the field. Keeps balance. Right mid #3 same as above. Striker #4 leL and right cannot drop back into opposite half. Keeps depth.

Bounce players can pass to each other as well If blue win possession they must do the same and get the ball to a bounce player before scoring

TOPIC: CREATING SPACE, POSSESSION, PLAYER ROTATIONS If 2 or more a=acking players are in a square when the ball is passed into that square the player who doesn't receive the ball must leave that square. That player can be replaced by another player from another square. This can become the rule. If a player dribble into a square any a=acking player in that square must leave and can be replace Play both rules at once or only one rule

TOPIC: ATTACKING OVERLOADS Normal game but with 6 balls on the outside If a player touches the ball as it goes out of play they must retrieve that ball. The other team now collects one of the six balls and plays as quick as possible whilst the other team are a player down. The player retrieving must replace the ball that the teaM are now playing with.

TOPIC: ATTACKING OVERLOADS • Area 30x20yds, divided into 3 equal thirds, as illustrated. • Goals at each end, set 5yds back from edge of playing area. • 13 players (incl. 2GK’s), arranged 2v1 in each end third & 2v3 in mid third. • Players (both teams) remain in zones. • PracSce starts with: ball fed-‐in to Reds by coach. • ObjecSve of game for Reds is to play from end-‐toend, through MF, to get ball to opposite GK to score. • Blues objecSve is to prevent scores by Reds & if they gain possession, a=ack opposite goal. • Rotate players in teams & within zones, to ensure all receive opportunity to play in all posiSons & circumstances. progressions for this pracSce are: -‐ Reds – keep shape but not necessarily their posiSons (i.e. Players in defending zone taking ball into MF & others filling in to retain balance of numbers in zone. -‐ Passes can miss-‐out MF directly & enter into a=acking zone. -‐ W ork ball from one end to other through midfield & then turn back to a=ack furthest goal. -‐ Blues – any number can operate in any zone in order to gain possession. -‐ Blues are given a Sme limit (e.g. 7 secs) to take a shot at goal.

TOPIC: BUILD UP PLAY • 13 players (incl. 2GK’s) arranged 6 A=ackers v 5 Defenders (2v1, 2v2 & 2v2 in each third), as shown in diagram. • Supply of balls with GK of A team. • PracSce starts with: A’s receive ball from GK in defensive third & look to move ball by either dribbling or passing into mid-‐third to progress play. • One A from defensive third can move into mid-‐third to create 3v2. • Possession is established in mid-‐third with A from final third able to link play & create 4v2. • Ball is moved into final third with 2A’s geong forward by either dribbling and/or passing to create 3v2 & strike at goal. • If D’s gain possession: they become a=ackers & look to counter-‐a=ack quickly with any number of players. progressions for this pracSce are: -‐ A from mid-‐third can drop into defensive third to support early gain of possession. -‐ D’s can move one player up the field to nullify/dilute a=acking overload in mid & final thirds. -‐ All D’s can advance one third to operate in 2 thirds of the field.

TOPIC: PLAYING OUT OF THE BACK, CREATING SPACE, PENETRATING PASSES • 16 players (incl. 2 GK’s), arranged 7 A=ackers v 7Defenders in middle zone, as shown in the diagram. • Supply of balls by each goal. • Off-‐side Rules apply in the 20x44yd end zone. • PracSce starts with: GK rolls ball to an A, who drops deep (unopposed) into end zone to receive & turn. • Receiving A then carries or passes ball into middle zone. • A’s look to retain possession & make forward pass for runner moving into a=acking end zone to strike at goal. • Off-‐side applies in end zone. • D’s are not permi=ed to recover into end zone to challenge A. • When a=ack is concluded: pracSce reverses with A’s becoming D’s. progressions for this pracSce are: -‐ AddiSonal A supports advancing A in 1v1 situaSon. -‐ One D recovers into end zone to challenge A & support GK.

TOPIC: PLAYING OUT OF THE BACK, ATTACKING COMBINATIONS • 16 players (incl. 2 GK’s), 1ball. • PracSce starts with: GK rolls ball-‐out to a=acking team which has a 6v3 numerical advantage in its own half. • In a=acking half, there are 2A’s v 3D’s. • A’s, in possession pass-‐out from back. • 4A’s advance into opponents half to make 6v3 in a=acking half. • Half way serves as off-‐side line, with A’s only able to cross into a=acking half once ball has been played into space. • ObjecSve of game is to move advancing A’s rapidly into D’s half, bringing A’s into game & get early strikes on goal. • Play resumes in opposite direcSon, from GK, using same playing numbers. • One team has a period of a=acking (to & from both ends), before players re-‐organise to share roles (& understanding).

TOPIC: WIDE PLAY • 23 players (incl. 2GK’s), arranged 4v4 plus a Floater in central area, who plays for the team in possession at all Smes; 2v2 at each end outside of penalty area & 2 flank players for each team, as shown. • PracSce starts with: Coach passes into central area, to a=acking team. • A’s look to keep possession for 5 consecuSve passes before playing into front players. • Strikers spread ball to flank, for winger to dribble & cross into penalty area. • If D’s gain possession: they can move ball to flank quickly to counter-‐a=ack (do not require 5 passes in central area). • One MF player from central area can a=ack goal, looking to receive cross with strikers, making third player in opponent’s penalty area. • ALer each a=ack counter-‐a=ack: Coach restarts pracSce by feeding into other team & roles are reversed.

TOPIC: DEFENDING, TRANSITIONAL PLAY The coach starts the drill by passing into the a=acker who is on the central line and a=empts to score 1v2 Defenders must pressure the ball and try to stop the a=acker. If they manage to win possession they must a=ack the opposite goal 2v1, if both defenders a=ack two vs one and lose possession the lone a=acker can pass back to his team mate in the other half of the pitch for a free shot on goal.

TOPIC: CROSSING AND FINISHING One team is nominated to work as the two target crossing players in the wide area. One team starts in each half whilst one team begins in the middlemen To start the coach passes to the central team who combine and play out wide to the crossing player. The reds must now a=ack the cross to a=empt to score. If successful they receive a second ball from the coach and a=ack in the opposite direcSon. If they are tackled the defenders now break out for their turn to a=ack from a cross in the opposite direcSon.

On a whiteboard, each team has a table with their names in the first column, one name per row. Each of the other columns contain a type of skill, such as 'Through Ball', or 'IntercepSon focussing on In-‐Possession play with a Learning Outcome of "Developing skills to penetrate opposiSon defence". Before the game, each player chooses two or three skills that they want to try to achieve during the game. As they play, they need to choose when is the correct Sme and place to execute each skill.
