Sludge handling problems

• Frequent and costly sludge disposal

• Labour intensive sludge handling

• Excessive water contents in sludge

• Insufficient storage capacity

• Unreliable burning of sludge in incinerator system

• Excessive and costly use of fuel oil

to burn sludge

• Decrease cost for sludge treatment

• Reduce total sludge volume by 90%

• Separate water to bilge water system

• Recover oil to be used in boiler or

incinerator system

• Enable easier disposal of concentrated sludge

• Reduce man-hours for sludge handling

In to sludge treatment system:

• Mixture of water and oil

(of any ratio between 100% water and 100% oil)

with up to 1-2 % suspended solids

Out from sludge treatment system:

• Oil to boiler or incinerator system

• Water to bilge water system

• Concentrated sludge for disposal

Capability:

• Handling of sludge corresponding to engine installations

up to 70 MW

Features

• Robust separator design, based on the well-proven MMPX 303 separator

• Separates oil sludge of varying composition and density without adjustment

• Continuous discharge of separated oil and water

• Separator bowl with unique flow concept ensures clean bowl at high concentration of solids

• Pump and heater specially designed for sludge with high solids contents

MSPX 303 system

Benefits

• Substantial savings in total sludge handling cost

• Reduced sludge volumes

• Maximum separation of water for discharge to

bilge water tank

• Maximum recovery of oil for direct use in boiler

or incinerator system

• Minimum sludge accumulation in bowl ensures

long service intervals

Marpol rule MEPC.1/Circ.642 (2008)

• It is permitted to recover and re-use the HFO

fraction of the waste oil as fuel for the diesel

Marpol Annex VI (air emissions)

• This prohibits incineration of oily wastes in ECA

areas
