Analyze which among the three above managers is easy for you to deal. Why?

Why the other will be (or will not be) difficult for you to deal?

Details about each manager in respect to their readiness in given below:

    Name Readiness Level Facts

Ranjeet R4 ( willing and able) He is highly experienced. His co-workers perceive

him as very competent, even tempered and

interested in company. He is willing fully involved

in his recent works on developing a long range

    plan for the company.

Babita R2 (willing and unable) She is not too knowledgeable regarding the nature

of the product produced by the company but she is

highly motivated. She admits that she is often

confused about the industry. She even has

outside customers because she does not seem to

    understand how the company functions.

Saroj R3 ( unwilling and able) Saroj has been with the company since its

inception. He has newly been appointed as

production manager of the company. He has

worked hard for streamline production and cost

reduction before being appointed to this new

position. He seems unwilling to handle the job of

manager because he feels more confident being

dependent over someone rather than being

dependable for others. He is afraid, insecure and

lacking the confidence. But he is experienced

about the production process and able to perform

    the role of production manager.

According to my leadership style, I would be perfect to deal with the followers

who are neither willing nor able. But in the case give, there is no manager having

unwillingness and inability at the same time. As my effectiveness level is positive

and adaptability level is moderate, I can easily switch my leadership style with

respect to the type of follower I have. Both my dominant and supportive leadership

styles falls under leader directed task behavior. In such scenarios, it would be easy

for me to deal with Babita. This is because she is willing but unable to work in her

position. My leadership style will be high relationship and high task oriented. Even

though Babita is confident, she is unknown about her job. Her peers define her as

confident, dedicated but confused type of person. In such case, I need to develop

warm relation with her so that her confidence and dedication can be mobilized into

learning process. I must also have high focus on task because ultimately I need to

guide her step by step towards goal attainment, until she becomes able.

For Ranjeet and Saroj, it would be difficult for me to deal with. This is because

they are already experienced and able to perform their job. They need leader

directed task behavior rather they need follower directed task behavior. Follower

directed task behavior is not my domain of leadership. I may change my style and

lead them because of my effectiveness and adaptability but the best result cannot

be obtained if such adaptation is done. They just need to have a leader who values

them and befriend with them. They already know their task clearly. For Saroj,

relation focused leader can develop the willingness that he is lacking of. So, for

both Ranjeet and Saroj, I would not be the best leader in compare with Babita.

In the LSP-5 assessment you took, your Least Preferred Coworker (LPC)

score was _____. (Refer to your assessment score sheet)

In the LSP-5 assessment, my Least Preferred Coworker (LPC) score was 78. This

means I am relationship oriented leader and I can perform well in moderately

    favorable situation.

Will you be an effective chairperson of the employee association? Why? Why

    not?

The situation in the given case can be analyzed under following criteria:

    Leader-member relation

The leader member relation is good in the given case. Members seem to like me

and I also like other members. The members seem to be attracted to the leader and

the environment is smooth and warm.

    Task structure

The task requirement is not clear and definite. There are no specific guidelines for

what should be included in the new policy. Overall requirement is unstructured.

    Position power

The position power is very weak. I do have control over the working process of

other members as these members are elected by the employees. I even have a

defined way to reward and punish them.

Overall, though there is good relation between me and members, the unstructured

task process and weak position power makes the situation moderately favorable.

This is exactly my domain for leadership according to my LPC score. This

signifies that I will be effective chairperson of the employee association.
